During a short visit to Corvallis, I just happened to find Mel's barber from a search on Yelp. Saw all the great reviews and decided to give it a try, since I was overdue for a cut. From the moment I walked in the shop, I felt extremely welcomed and I was able to get in a chair immediately at 10:15am on a Tuesday. Ari, the owner, is such a great conversationalist and shared with me so many good tidbits about Oregon and many other topics. It was such a great experience and his son Brady, who was cutting hair for someone else in the next chair was doing an amazing job as well. I left there feeling great and just wish I had a barber shop like this back home. I highly recommend this family owned shop, as the price is extremely affordable, while the quality of service is extremely high. I cannot recommend this business enough. (Note: They only take walk-ins and only accept cash)

He gave me the highest skytop fade in history. nobody wants that cut and honestly I'm sick to my stomach right now because my friends are clowning me and it looks pretty awful. the people are super nice though and next time i go I'll just try to get the barber that gets me right. it's hard to trust the service tho cause you never know if your about to get the best cut or the worst cut of your life

Ug been here a few times and something is always not done correctly. Old guy good/ok depending on mood, young guy not so talented. Has the classic small barber feel which is nice. My grandpa would like this place and I'd probably take the lil guy here but not for Ug. read more

Good experience. Very small shop with two chairs cutting. Not much seating and no appointments. One barber was new and needed to help from my barber so my cut took a bit longer as he was helping the other barber. Totally understand as I have brought on new staff and needed to help out. Skin fade never made it to the skin as I like. Good spot and good team. read more

Brady has been the best barber for me in town when I was a grad student in Corvallis at OSU. He gave excellent, time efficient, hair cuts, and always made sure I was happy with each one. He was able to adjust quickly to the styles I wanted too. Brady was always exceptionally professional and pleasant to chat with each visit. He treated me kindly with utmost respect. I will miss going there and having our chats now that I am out of state. I highly recommend this shop! read more

Just had a great haircut and awesome conversation with the nicest 3rd generation owners! As a visiting WSU Coug for this weekend's football game I was nervous showing my colors. The shop is very small. Two barber chairs and 4 chairs for people waiting. There was only one barber working but he was very efficient and we did t have to wait long. My 10 year old grandson had an overgrown Mohawk that needed to be cleaned up. He showed the barber a picture of what he wanted and the barber went to work. He was quick and meticulous. We were very happy with the outcome. Cash or check only but they have their own ATM on site. No appointments, walk in only. We'll definitely go back. read more

Nice guys, but no matter what hair cut you request you are going to get the one they do, uncle sam will except it no questions ask, and you will not need another in a very long time. They try hard but appears they've had no formal training. But very nice. read more

My boyfriend is from Corvallis and went here to get his haircut for the first time. The barber, Ari, is very friendly and everyone else waiting at the shop was engaged in friendly conversation. At $15, you can't beat his combination of service, skill, and affordability. However, it does seem to get packed pretty quickly--there were 6 people waiting at 8:30 am Saturday morning but the wait wasn't too long. My boyfriend noticed that most of the customers were regulars since everyone would just ask for "the regular". Recommended if you're looking to get a solid haircut without breaking the bank. read more

a young guy gave me a haircut there. he did it so quickly that it looked like he was mowing a lawn. i ended up with a horrible haircut and paid a $21.0 + tip. it was a waste of money and time. read more

A fantastic experience! I am In town visiting my sweetheart and badly needed the services of a good barber. I have a very thick head of hair and equally full beard. I'm lazy and don't do anything with my hair most days but asked the barber (Ari) if he could do something that allows for me to also work around my natural part when I want to. He succeeded in doing that and gave a beautiful trim to my beard without taking off too much length (harder than it should be). We had fantastic conversation about the area and he was welcoming when he found out that I'll be moving to town soon myself. He and his co-worker were very helpful in suggesting places for us to picnic during my visit. I was just hoping to get a decent haircut for a fair price. I got that and much more. Great cut for my teenage son who has thick Filipino hair and a crazy cowlick. Ari couldn't have been nicer or more professional. Easy to find, easy to park, superbly affordable, serving all demographics (there were retired men, teens, and little boys when we were there). We found our barber in Corvallis! Long time customer. Never an issue. Until now with covid-19. First allowed friend inside without a mask while those of us taking numbers waited outside. Finally my turn - asked inside friend to use a mask which he did after Ari tried justifying friends social distancing. Sitting immediately inside the door? Then - wife walks in and by me with no mask. Goes to her chair and puts on useless face shield. No mask. Saw open sign lit Monday so stopped. Mel working - face shield and no mask. Asked him to weat a mask and he said the face shield was enough for him. Not for me. I left. They just don't get it. So irresponsible. read more

I've only had my hair cut here a handful of times, but every time has been great. While they don't take cards, spending a few minutes withdrawing cash from an ATM is completely worth it (especially with OSU Federal across the street). Cuts are quick, barbers are friendly, and I've been very happy with my experience here. read more

I like this shop. I like the barber, friendly and polite (as mentioned by others). Always satisfied. My hair must be easy to cut, it's fast; and a good price (Sr. Discount.. so I just tip up to the regular price). Walk-in. Little kids to old guys like me as customers. I've been going to this barbershop for a few years now and Ari is by far the best in town. I used to bounce from barbershop to barbershop within the Willamette valley until I found Ari. If you're looking for a no frills barber shop experience, look no further. Conversation is always good, the wait can be longer on the weekend but it's usually fast enough. I recommend calling first, as Aurie is active in the community and will sometimes change the posted hours. read more

Arrie has done an amazing job on both mine and my sons hair over the last few cuts. He has often checked in as he cuts to make sure it looking the way I want it too. He is friendly polite and highly skilled. I would be comfortable asking him to correct something I didn't like about my cut. I will continue to use him as long as he keeps cutting. read more

I've been visiting Gary since he was at Grant and 29th. After finishing class at Harding Elementary some days I would walk to Gary's and he'd cut my hair then look after me till my parents arrived. Wow! this shop and barber is amazing! He cuts my husband and boys hair. We went all over town looking for the right cuts! NO ONE even got close. I guess Ari is the only barber capable of listening and clarifying to make sure we both were on the same page! He's wonderful and the shop looks great and is uncluttered and very clean which is far better than another barber shop we visited here in town. A+++++++. By the way being in business myself, there 's no way to please everyone. there's always going to be those nit picky, petty individuals that complain about everything like the 2 reviews that gave meld anything less than 5 stars. Don't worry about it Ari you're always going to have people like that, who aren't ever satisfied with anything, including themselves! Keep doing what you're doing! I moved here from California and am very particular about my hairstylists. My buddy told me about Mel's so I gave it a try and I could not be more impressed. Ari is a fantastic stylist who is understanding and easy to talk to. He makes sure that you leave with the cut you hope to get. Most barbers prefer to listen to what you want and then do what they "think" is best, but not Mel's. Ari asked me throughout the cut whether I prefer this or that and cut my hair exactly to my preferences. If anyone gets worried like me about finding a barber/hair stylist that can actually deliver the cut I want, then Mel's is the place for you! I have always been a "great clips/super cuts" guy. But I'm a changed man! A barber shop is the new me! Not only is this a family run shop, but I've only ever gotten exceptional service! They have a new barber, Mel's grandson, and he took his time with my cut and ensured I was happy with it. He was friendly and made me feel at ease instantly. My hair looked fresh and I got tons of compliments, but my favorite part was the care and attention that I received. 10/10 would recommend!!! read more

My boyfriend went to this barber shop for the first time and it was a awesome experience. They are super talkative and know how to have conversation super nice and great at doing trims and haircuts. The price is perfect for the service they give. They get lots of regulars and we are now going to be one. i recommend 100%. read more

Made an account just to write a review for Mel's Barber Shop. Not only did he just give me the best haircut I've ever had, he was quick, friendly, and had no expectation for a tip (though I pushed it on him anyways) like many other places in Corvallis do. I'd recommend this shop to anyone. Very satisfied. read more

Took my little guy for a haircut at Mel's Barber Shop this morning. Ari (the owner/barber) was SO AWESOME! He was patient and fast and gave a great haircut. I can't say it was worth every penny because he DID IT FOR FREE (first time cut)! Um, I guess we are customers for life there. read more

Best haircut I've gotten in a long time. Quick and easy and the person doing my hair made it clear that I could tell him whatever I wanted and he wouldn't get offended. Made it all very comfortable overall a great experience. Also very affordable. read more

Great! Great! Great barber! There's a reason he has a line at door. It's because he gives one of the best haircuts around. Bring cash or check. He doesn't take cards and that's just fine. read more
