The process to book was quite simple (over texts/calls), especially because she was already familiar with our venue. Her quote included a very reasonable $10/foot for draping. The drapes were a wrinkly raspberry-red satin material that were somewhat sheer if there was lighting behind them. I used Melissa's Creations as my decorator vendor, as per word of mouth and recommendation from my venue, and Im very glad I did. Melissa has an extensive portfolio of decorations across a multitude of wedding venues. I opted for styles she had done before for other clients. I imagine that if you want something more custom and tailored, she'd be more than happy to accommodate. I just happened to know what I wanted (basically a whimsical vibe with a heavy focus on use of light and airy textures) so I didnt bother getting creative. My only small complaint is that reaching out to Melissa can be a bit frustrating. I had asked her several times to confirm my order and set up my final payment before my event but it wasn't until just a few days before that I managed to get a hold of her for a quick 4 minute call. I understand, she must be a very in-demand person during peak wedding season. And I guess my order wasn't particularly complicated, so maybe she just didn't prioritize me over other clients. In hindsight, this isn't a big deal, but for some people, this may be very nerve-wracking. Thankfully, Melissa has worked with my venue (Sheraton East Laguardia) many many times, so everything was smooth sailing the day of. We only met up with Melissa once to discuss what type of decorations we wanted for our stage and arch for our wedding. She was very patient, accommodating and suggested ideas and even altered the arch to what we preferred. When they didn't have the color we initially wanted for the roses, someone from her team reached out to us to let us know and reassured us that the other color they picked would work beautiful together as well. Our design for the stage was very simple and it was actually an exact replica of another picture we have seen that her team has set up. We paid a deposit when we signed the contract and stopped by a couple days before the wedding date to pay the rest. The decorations were set up on time at the venue and it was beautiful! The only thing I would really have preferred to make this a smoother process for us since I was already busy with so many things on my wedding day was if her team would have sent me a picture via text of the finished product before they left the venue. I recommend everyone to request a photo of the decorations before the team leaves the venue if you are not physically there to verify. When we arrived at the venue, the stage decoration backdrop looked a little bit off and we had to contact Melissa to send someone back to fix it. She responded back ASAP which I was truly grateful for and they took about 50 minutes to come back to the venue which by that time I already had half my guests arrive. I feel like having to send someone to come back could have been avoided. Her team checked with me this time before they left to make sure everything was perfect. It was complete luck that we found her when we were looking for a restaurant and she just happened to be there at the Jade Asian Restaurant (Flushing, NY) preparing for another wedding. Her work there was top notch and we knew she was the one to do ours. Melissa and her crew turned an old restaurant into a fairy tale palace. They decorated the entire restaurant from the doors, walls, to the ceiling. We chose a lavender, purple, and ivory color theme for the tables, chairs, stage, walls, and columns. Not only that, she filled in the gaps and handled some of the details of the layout herself that we had missed or didn't know what to do about. We couldn't be more ecstatic at how it all came together. Considering the size of the job that she had to do, her prices were very reasonable. It is slightly more than the competition, but you get what you paid for in terms of the materials she uses and the creativity and energy she brings to her work. Just for our venue, she must of brought in at least 15 people to put the place together. She has an amazing supporting team who really put us at ease in delivering on what we wanted for our wedding. Unlike some of her other competition, Melissa has an actual office where we can see her to discuss our ideas. She was always available for us either in person or by phone. Her office also serves as part of her warehouse and showcase where we got the chance to see and feel the material and props she was going to use for the restaurant. We hired Melissa for decoration for our wedding at Mulan in Flushing. She did a great job decorating the restaurant to our taste. We wanted a tiffany blue color theme, Melissa was able to do the whole restaurant with that, including backdrop, arch, reception and cake tables. It all tied in very smoothly. I love the lighting she put in along with the decoration. The only tiny drawback is the "double happiness" on the backdrop, it appeared to be a very pale ivory after the lighting, wish it was more goldfish. But other than, everything was very good, and her price is reasonable. We also ordered centerpiece from her, it looked very nice. We had our wedding banquet at Jing Fong which was conveniently located down the street from her office. At one point during the wedding, the sashes and flowers along the escalator came apart and Melissa's team quickly came over to fix it. I was impressed by their urgency and swiftness in making sure the presentation of the banquet hall is maintained. Melissa's prices aren't cheap, in fact, I would say it's at a premium. She'd probably get upset at me for saying this but make sure you negotiate! She's cool and has a great attitude but she's really good at holding her prices. I think I got a great deal.
