Melissa styled my hair exactly how I envisioned, and she took the time to cut more off after she was originally finished when we both agreed that would amp up the look (but she's still very quick!). Melissa is an exceptional stylist that does amazing work. Out of all the times I have done my hair in my lifetime Melissa has made me thee most satisfied, by far. I have gone to Paul Brown and Lydia's salon before to do highlights and I liked it, but I did not LOVE IT! I always felt a bit intimidated, rushed or misunderstood but Melissa takes the time to listen to how you would like your hair and does her best to achieve it. It helps to come in with pictures so she can get a good sense of what you want. When I went to Melissa I had virgin hair that was not colored for years and I was ready to take a leap of faith and do something dramatic. I showed her a couple pictures and we discussed for a few minutes what I wanted. I told her that I wanted to go blonde, but didn't want to damage my hair. She said she would only lighten my hair as much as it could go without causing damage, and that's exactly what she did. My hair did lighten significantly, but I will need to see her a second time to achieve the blonde that I really want. The final result was a ombre/balayage from natural dark brown roots to gradual dark blonde ombre. I loved it and had zero complaints. Be advised ladies, that these types of hair styles requires strict aftercare in order to maintain its beauty. Melissa provided helpful advice along with a suggestion of products to use that she has for sale in her salon. I took her advice of using a violet shampoo to retain the tone in my hair and it has helped to keep the color from turning brassy. I cannot wait to go in for my second appointment. I know I will not be disappointed! Lastly, her pricing is very reasonable for the amazing work that she does. My husband and 7-year-old son also get their hair cuts done by her and she always does a great job. She works from home and has a cute salon set up in her garage with seating and cold a/c. For me, she is in a convenient location so I am lucky. I plan to be a loyal client for many years to come and highly recommend everyone to see her. She is by appointment only but because she works from home you can always give her a call or a text at anytime to see if she has any last minute openings. We went through "the book" to see what shade of red would work for me. I took her advice and she went straight to work. We talked and laughed and talked and laughed. The time flew by and my hair was unveiled. Loved it! Having never gone red before, I have to say that I fell in love immediately and couldn't figure our why I never thought of that color. Well, at least mine is :) The most important thing I've been looking for over the years is how well the hair dresser communicates with you. Genuineness and absense of intimidation are key. Melissa makes sure she takes her time to listen to what you want and makes you feel absolutely comfortable doing so. The first time I went to see her, I felt as if I've known her for years! She's just so easygoing and down-to-earth! Melissa has been doing hair (and makeup) for ten years now and knows what she's doing. She values what YOU want for your hair, is very patient, and does her very best to paint that vision in your head and make it come to life! I honestly would have loved to have been able to write a review based on Melissa's hairstyling ability, however was never given a chance to experience her expertise (or lack thereof). Last year, I wanted a new hairstyle and color, so I called and texted Melissa. She responded with how busy she has been with life etc., but that she would get back to me with appointment availability. Totally understandable. BUT...not a single call or text back...EVER. That was the first strike. And since I am a firm believer in giving second chances, I called/texted Melissa just this past week (mind you, this is about a whole year later) to see if just MAYBE she was less busy than last year. I was referred to Melissa by a great friend. My normal hairstylist had to retire so I was looking for someone good. When I got in the chair Melissa evaluated my hair and we talked about what I wanted. I suggested shorter in the back but basically wanted her to give me a cut she thought would look good on me. When she was done I loved it but thought it might be a little more contemporary for me. Anyway, I gotta tell you, I have NEVER gotten so many compliments about my haircut. I'm sold. I've been going to Melissa for years now. As a guy I'm kinda of skeptical of people cutting my hair because I usually end up look like a box head, but Melissa always delivers precision when cutting. I basically sit down and tell her do whatever, I've had Mohawks, fauxhawks, short spikey, and now a side comb. She always does a great job, with amazing lines and making sure I don't have an uneven cut. Along with that she's very personable and VERY affordable. I have wavy hair and a lot of stylists I've seen in the past always ended up cutting it unevenly or messing up my layers in a way that resulted in unsightly pouf... Salon is beautiful and much nicer than many salons I have been to (there have been a lot). Clean, stylish, welcoming, and very professional. I showed her a pic of what I wanted and away she went. I have been in Hawaii for 22 years and this is by far, the best cut I have ever had. She really listened to what I wanted, asked questions, and cut, cut, cut!
