I needed a haircut as it's been almost 2 years since my last haircut and wanted to find somewhere close to home in the Central area. The ease of making an appointment with the salon manager Abeer through Yelp was great, so I decided to book with Luxe Salon. Day of appointment: Upon entering the door, I was greeted and directed to sit in the first chair to wait for my stylist U'ilani. I looked at the chair and didn't know how to get in because it looked narrow to get through and sit. I managed to squeeze through but the chair wobbled and tilted a little! Thank goodness I didn't fall over, but that felt embarrassing After watching my stylist maneuver the chair, I quickly learned I could have turned it more! U'ilani greeted me and asked how I wanted my hair to be cut. I asked for the grown out ends to be cut and I still wanted layers. Went in for a perm because I wanted volume. I will not.mention the name of the stylist. Really, no hard feelings because she tried. Dana was kind enough to attempt to fix my bad hair perm. She told me that when your hair is permed, it will look uneven in places. I assured her I have had perms before. My hair was good for one day. Now I am dealing with frizz and this is one of the worst experiences that I have had. Previous perms allowed me to just use a pick but this time it is bad. I asked for peekaboo highlights. I got a partial highlight + tone + haircut. It was my first time coloring my hair. Color is okay but i do love my haircut! I gave it a low rating because my roots are still black, i see streaks of yellow in my hair and I didn't like my experience here. Keep in mind, I haven't washed my hair yet. I wanted to be nice and give some stars because I can tell the workers are cool, they have a nice work dynamic with each other. But from what I observed, they only communicate and give good customer service to the usual customers, rather than the new comers. When i walked in, there were 5-7 workers just staring at me in this small salon. Immediately felt intimidated. I seen another review where they had the same experience and compared it to a "mean girls clubhouse." I agree it felt like that. Dana was nice tho. After I got overwhelmed with the questions in the beginning, she slowed down and tried to make me feel better. After that, she handed me down to the other workers and there was barely any communication throughout the process. Maybe I should've asked? But I thought it was a given to communicate, especially if it's the first time. I had high expectations because of the awesome work I see on their IG. Very disappointed in my experience at this salon. I knew their prices were higher so was expecting very good service. Especially when I was getting my hair done by the salon owner Dana, it should be good service. I paid $330 for a partial highlight and toner and it came out very striped and unnatural looking. My mum and sister are both incredible hairdressers in Australia, so I know what to expect from a good quality salon and service. I text to them know I was unhappy and they were defensive straight away. It's hard and uncomfortable to complain, so getting a defensive response wasn't nice. They booked me in again to consult with Dana how to fix my hair and again very defensive and basically said it was done right and what I asked for. I've had a lot of partial highlights done before and the result is not what I asked for. Dana said would I like a quote for what it would cost to add more highlights and I said I had already paid for the service (and tip) and didn't want to pay more. She offered a discount and still basically blamed me and I felt very uncomfortable and said I wanted to leave. If you're a blonde getting highlights, go to Vive and Jackie in Kailua. I am Asian with curly/wavy hair. It is thinning so I am particular on how short my hair is cut. My first visit was with Grace and I liked her suggestions and how she cut my hair. 12/29/23 was my second visit with Grace. I got my hair cut there for the first (and only) time. The receptionist didn't tell me who was cutting my hair, yeah I should have asked. Anyway, she washed and blow dried my hair before even cutting which I found very odd. I have a slight wave and NO ONE has ever straightened out my hair before cutting it. I came there and paid almost $700 on highlights that I'm still not happy with at all. The first time I was there took almost 6 hours- I needed to leave because I couldn't stand the chemical smell being left in my hair so long plus they don't have any hair dryers so the highlights were all uneven. I had to come back a second time " technically gave them a second try to make it better" and I explained that I wanted it dimensional from the start. Anyway the second time "last time" was even worse because now the whole top of my head is yellow/ gold color with an extremely bright light grey patch near my border/ hairline I'm guessing this is the money piece she was talking about must be her specialty. All I know is I hate it & every time I look in the mirror it bothers me because I spent big money on something I absolutely dislike. I didn't want to be mean because I know that they put time into this & time is money but what do you do when the results are bad- I went there twice each time I stayed for up to 6 hours. Haircuts should be an important part of everyone's routine. People don't realize that a routine trim every 6-8 weeks could do a world of difference! I definitely do not practice what I preach... I get a quarterly haircut if I'm lucky! I'm not an appointment gal, I'm very spontaneous. When someone has time, can you go ahead and chop some of my hair off please? My long awaited visit with Dana was probably the first haircut I paid for in a solid 6 yrs! I knew she was fresh in the salon opening and really wanted to show sissy some love. I've been watching her do hair for a couple of months and I like her style and techniques. I knew it was gonna be a great experience. I texted her to see when she was free to take me in before having her baby. She was very prompt in her responses and booking. I got a text notification when my appointment was booked and even got reminder texts nearing the date. She knows I live nearby so when she finished her prior appointment before my scheduled time, she let me know she was available. Going in, I knew I wanted to chop off a lot of hair but I wasn't quite ready for a mature mom, "I wanna speak to your manager" Bob lol. So I just said, about collar bone, a little shorter in the back and a little bit of layers. Shorter hair = a bit more work and maintenance. I was prepared for that. I wanted a sleek and put together look, and that's exactly what I get... If I work at it. She chopped off the length, gave my hair a good and relaxing wash. Every step of the way she let me know what she was doing with my hair, even though I gave her free reign and said "whateva you lai hunnay". I really didn't even expect full service because I'm so in and out now days. She still flat ironed my hair with all the refining and finishing touches on my new lob do. If you're not familiar with Mililani, I would suggest mapping out directions with GPS. The salon isn't really visible from any street you drive on. Its tucked away near Ke Ola Pet clinic and a dental office. Parking is alright, depending on what time of day you're in the area. I highly recommend Dana for all your hair wants and needs! She has a great following because she really goes above and beyond with her clientele. She's never awkward, has great conversations, and her vibe is just really nice. I got sewn in weft hair extensions by Dana! This was my first time coming here, was referred by a friend. I just want to say it was a 10/10 experience. When I walked in, Dana was very welcoming and made me feel comfortable. Before the installation she touched up my roots, and toned my previously dyed red hair to match the extensions. She got the color I wanted SPOT ON because I've been wanting this wine red color for such a long time and my previous stylist didn't do that for me. Overpriced and unprofessional staff. The color services they provide are actually good...if they do the right one...but it is overpriced for what this place is. Ladies who want pro hair, salon services should pass this place up and find somewhere else. $450 for full balayage and $65 for woman's haircut. My daughter has thin, not long hair and her bill came out to $515 - $50 deposit to make an appointment...plus the 20% tip= $584.29. I've been to many, many quality salons and have never paid this much for full balayage...and this salon is not even close to the quality I would expect with this price tag. My daughter was at the salon for a standard amount of time for the service, including a cut and style...about 4hrs. Luxe is very small, in an old complex, just another local hair salon ...like Great Clips...women, children, and men go here. The ladies talk about very inappropriate and unprofessional topics around clients...it's really TMI! The high end price does not match the quality of the salon or the type of chatty staff here. Last week I went in to get my roots lightened and hair toned...to maintain the light locks I had going on. Toward the end of my service, I realized Grace had darkened my roots and hair instead. I was very upset and they would not let me pay (I offered twice) since I was not happy and this was not the service I planned on paying for...so I walked away without a bill...just to face an extremely large bill a week later with my daughter's balayage appointment. I am suspicious of this high bill based on the circumstance and the sassy staff and raunchy conversations I have experienced when going to this salon in the past for myself and my daughters. I actually got my haircut done in March 31st but I keep forgetting to post a review haha. I rarely ever get haircuts but I've decided now is the time. Owner Dana replied right away asking when I can come in and had an appointment set on March 31st. So setting up an appointment with them was easy. I went in and was seated with Eloisa. She's such a sweetheart. I told her I wanted my hair at a certain length with curtain bangs. She went ahead and shampoo my hair and started cutting. She also asked if I wanted her to style. Ill start by saying that mostly everyone here is friendly & the decor is inviting but aside from that my experience here was not so great. So bad I almost considered saying "I'd give 'em a zero". As soon as my stylist was done with my perm and haircut, I looked at the mirror and instantly wanted to cry. I also came here because I had a wedding to attend the next day and I felt like the ugliest person there :( First off, I was charged $140 for the perm + haircut (that wasn't included but when I previously got a perm, the haircut was included). The price was not bad but i paid for a botched service. There was no curls! Of course the stylist asked if I liked it and I said "yes" bc I'm just not confrontational like that but I mean there was no curls. HELLO!! She even said "they don't look that bad, it looks like a natural curls which a lot of guys like nowadays". I came for curls not wavy hair. Like how can you look at the final product and think that my hair was okay? Then, to add the cherry on top or to ruin it all I guess, my line up in the front was also wavy!! OMG WAVY, no line up, wavy as well. She pushed it all the way back. Not only did i pay for no perm but a messed up haircut as well. I got in the car and just stared at my face for a few minutes. I was shook. I did not want to go back but as soon as I got home, my hubby demanded I go back and say something. I told him no, that I could just pay someone else to fix it but he literally said "you paid $140, you better to get that fixed or I'll come with you and demand a refund". To avoid such embarrassment, I went back myself; which he should have came with me bc I have no b*lls. When I came back the second time, the stylist was snotty about the whole situation. She asked rudely: "why did you come back when you said you liked them"... Um you're right but at the same time how could you call my hair a perm? I should have just told her the second I saw my hair that I HATED it but again I hate confrontation. I smiled and simply told her that my hubby made me come back, disregarding her attitude. I also pointed out my haircut but she said "what's wrong with it, it looks fine" and asked her coworker to come look at it and they both agreed nothing was wrong. Like I know you guys aren't a barber shop but atleast pay attention to the fade that was not "fading" or even the messed up line up. Any normal person could have noticed that. On the last attempt to perm my hair, my curls came out okay. Some turned out like curls and other parts didn't. When I asked why, she mentioned that it could have been the chemicals not staying in for long. I mean you're the professional so why didn't you time it correctly if that's all it needed? - She also said that the first time around. At the end of the day, I went to a barber shop up the street to attempt to fix the line up but it was too late. The barber said it was best to leave it alone and to let it grow. I literally cried in the car afterwards because I had the wedding to attend the very next day. Moral of the story is when you feel like your hair isn't coming out and you paid $100+, you better say something even if they aren't so nice because there is no turning around after that. Also, if you're a gentleman looking for a barber AKA a good fade, do not go here!! I was shook at my results, I mean they had amazing reviews on yelp so I was confused how this happened to me. WHY ME?!!! I'm not sure, maybe it wasn't her day or she had just started but all I know is that I didn't deserve this and I will definitely not come back. read more

My daughter and I were both getting our hair done and they were pretty awesome at accommodating us both around the same time. I booked our appointment using the feature here on Yelp. After that the stylist did text me that she had an earlier opening and again they were awesome at fitting my daughter and I around the same time. I got multiple reminders of our appointment by text which was nice. Staff: the stylists here were very friendly and made us feel welcomed. They made us both feel comfortable. The whole atmosphere was positive. We had Mariah and Myra and they were both awesome. But also the other stylists and front desk in there were really nice and welcoming. Color/cut: i got full highlights and straighten my hair. My daughter got partial highlights and a hair cut. I Loved my final look. Mariah was awesome. And I have long curly hair so she really worked! It also makes me feel good when my stylist is excited about how her work came out. My daughter Is obsessed with her new look.
