But what it is, is... loons on the lake, fishing, kayaks and paddle boards, bonfires at night, a quaint cottage (with air conditioning!), a game of bags on the lawn, tons of nearby biking trails, lots of swimming and sun, surprisingly good restaurants around, plenty of spaces to just sit and read or relax and talk with friends and family. This was our first time here, and we will be back next year. The staff was attentive, everything was tidy and clean. We had an absolutely great time up here!

The location near to Sleeping Bear, Leeland, Traverse City, etc all within 15-20 minutes away. 2.) The beds, comfy & one for everyone in the family ...baths too 3.) The setting nestled on a hill over looking a small lake, with walking trails & a cover bridge steps away 4.) Recreational activities right on the grounds, swimming, fire pits, grilling, water craft, life jackets, & shuffle board 5.) Recreational activities inside the lodge, TV, books, games, pool table, fuze ball & air hockey 6.) Kitchen, laundry & baths semi stocked for ease of living 7.) Large enough for big groups Just like the best campground ever ...but stepped up a notch because there is a pine paneled big woods rustic cozy cabin to stay in! If an authentic northern Michigan cabin experience is what you have in mind, look no further. We stayed in the big lodge but there are several size cabins available. Randy & Doreen are super nice, and very good at communicating before and after your stay.

Unfortunately we had to leave a day early due to TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE... more on that in a minute. We stayed in one of the "suites" in the Little Belle -an aging mini ski village at the base of the chairlift to the ski hills. As it was August, the village was pretty quiet. Our room, Suite 10 was located on the second floor and while spacious, had several flaws including a broken gas fireplace (not really an issue in August), stained carpet, broken base molding, a tiny bathroom with a phone-booth sized shower with a slow drain, a ridiculous 1990s whirlpool tub set in the middle of the bedroom along with a tiny pedestal sink. At more than $350/night ($400 on the weekend) given the modest quality of the room, this would be for me a 2 or 3-star place, at best. Unfortunately we received a shocking text Friday night (see photo) with less than 12 hours notice that the electricity would be shut off at 8 am on SATURDAY for an indeterminate time frame in our section of the property and that they were sorry. Obviously I called asking to move to a different part of the resort but was told they were full. I'm thinking, well emergencies happen, but after additional calls, I found out, no, in fact they had a power issue a couple of weeks ago and have been running off a generator. Further, while there was no time frame for the repair, they were "HOPING to have it done by mid afternoon."!!!!! As we had a 4 pm wedding, this was obviously not going to be acceptable to be without power, hot water or a room for what was expected to be a rainy day. We just couldn't rely on the HOPE that we could get back into the (electric door locks after all) and HOPE we would have enough time to get ready and HOPE there would be hot water... I think you get the idea! Luckily I was able to find a hotel in Empire with a room we could book for 1 night when I called at 9 pm. They were super nice when I explained our situation and promised to get a room cleaned as quickly as possible then call us so we wouldn't have an issue with the 4 pm wedding-No THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE! (Hint to the Homestead). What I can't get over is the tone-deafness of the text. Clearly they knew about this issue when we arrive to check in on THURSDAY yet only notified us late the night before when we and the other suckers were stuck with no options during the busy tourist season?! I don't know about you but we travel frequently and stay in hotels of all levels 50-60 nights a year and have never experienced such a cavalier level of customer service. While this is a nice area to visit, I'll never stay at the Homestead again and hope my experience will inform your decision as well. Good riddance!

A friend found this resort when we were looking for somewhere to go for a girl's weekend. We stayed…read morein a third floor penthouse. I can sum up Lebear with one word: WOW. Absolutely amazing. A beautiful spacious apartment, with three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. It easily slept the six of us and we did not feel the least bit over crowded. As there was a group of us the price really was pretty reasonable for the weekend. While family friendly, it could be a bit pricey. The kitchen comes with everything you need from dinner ware to dish soap. There is a large grill on the private porch besides the stove top and oven. Two fireplaces (one is gas and the other you have to light for which they provide all needed materials). There are two flat screen TVs in the main rooms, another in the master bedroom and a small one in the bunk room. The shower in the master bath is huge and there is also a separate large tub. The best part is the large porch that overlooks the beach and Lake Michigan. It wraps around the side around to the back. the view of the lake and Sleeping Bear Dunes is beautiful. The resort also has a gym, outdoor pool and hot tub. Blu, a restaurant I highly recommend, is attached. There is also free wifi (they provide a password). The staff was also amazing, expect to be treated like an honored guest. They take care if anything you might need, even marsh mellows. The only slightly negative thing is that Lebear is a bit off on its own in Glen Arbor. The wineries are about a half hour away which was reasonable. Glen Arbor is small but charming. There are several shops, a couple bars (try Art's Tavern) and a grocery store. The resort is a very short walk from the town.

This review is really more of a 4.5. Absolutely beautiful location and accommodations; very…read morefamily-friendly, great amenities. There are all sorts of tiny details that make Lebear a special place, such as cucumber-ice water by the pool, cookies in the kitchen, and free and easy kayak use on site. The location is excellent. We have stayed at the Homestead in years past, but the Lebear location really sets it apart as it is a quick walk to the grocery stores, restaurants and shops in Glen Arbor. My only complaint is a minor one, and it's just that the bedroom situation is a little funky. In all three of the units I saw, the master bedroom was perfect, but the two smaller guest rooms left much to be desired. One of the bedrooms has a nice queen bed and bunk beds and the other has a double or queen-sized trundle bed. I would think to put the trundle bed in the room with the bunk beds (making it more of a "kids" room) and leave the nice queen-sized bed in its own room. Also, the hallway lighting outside of the two smaller guest rooms was extremely bright at night and made it very difficult to sleep.

We went to Pyramid Point one afternoon and the sky opened up on us on the walk/run back to the car. We were drenched. We came back and asked her if she could toss some clothes/towels in the dryer for us and she did without complaint. It's something you're not paying for and she went above and beyond to accommodate us. Bonus points for that. We stayed in the Empire room. Definitely tiny, but cozy. Plenty enough space for a couple. Breakfast in the morning had many choices and was delicious. They've even got a barn you can park your car in. There's only a few spots and it's first come/first serve but that was another unexpected perk. The home is from the early 1900's if I remember correctly and it shows. Narrow steps, tons of sitting rooms. It's fun just to walk around inside and check the place out. Highly recommended!
