Mekong Plaza has expanded! There is additional parking, which is much needed, on the south side of the lot. It's crowded here especially on the weekends. Give yourself extra time if you're coming here. Parking is scarce at times and you may have to circle around two or three times. I walked over to the south side of the plaza. I like coming here. It's a foodies paradise, with so many good places to eat. I haven't tried them all, but they're on my list ;) I especially like the Sizzling House, Happy Baos, and Thai Spices. There is a big grocery store that stocks lots of Asian groceries, fresh meat and fish, and fresh fruits and veggies. There are also some barber and beauty shops, gift stores, a food court, a cosmetic store, and jewelry store. Mekong Palace is a one-stop hub in Mesa for Asian businesses that includes a supermarket, dine-in restaurants, food court, gift shops and other services. They have a nice selection of Chinese, Vietnamese, Filipino and Taiwanese restaurants all under one roof. I live near the Asian district and like to stop by here from time-to-time. I have dined at Happy Baos, Tasty Pot, Tea Snow, Sizzling House and a couple places in the food court area in the past. Mekong Plaza hosts occasional events like Chinese New Year and food festivals. This is our go to Asian market for all our Asian fixes. They have the freshest fruits and their sea food section is great. They have good variety and fresh fishes. The place is well organized and has good naming convention. We have tried their mangoes, the best in the valley. Pricing is good too. It was first time here and I was really impressed with the selection of fruits. The jackfruit was bought here was a large chunk that we paid $19 for. I just love going here because it's a different feeling! The decor is cute and welcoming! I like that it's an indoor mall with restuarants and stores inside, as well as, Balboa tea spots. I usually go to walk around and stop at Bo for dumplings. Recommend going here even if just to browse just to get out of the house. They have a dim sum place in the plaza. Lots of people go and I bring my friends. There are many other shops there. This location is similar to the Lee Lee store area in the Mesa or Chandler area. There is another similar place near 99 ranch in Phoenix, though I am not sure if 99 ranch is still in that plaza. The place can get hectic and crowded. Make sure to stay away during the lunar New year unless there is something you have to buy from there. The parking lot is jammed at that time. I get scared my car will get hit it is so crowded. The inside of the plaza itself smells maybe like fish. It is hard for me to say because there are so many restaurants around and the main supermarket that sells a variety of different things. I have went to unphogettable, the tea shop tea avenue, and the dim sum restaurant Mekong palace. read more

Met a friend here for lunch so decided to eat at the food court. I ordered from a viet place and she ordered from Filipino place. I ordered the bun ga nuong which was chicken, veggies and vermicelli. My meal was ok. Nothing special for $15. Hers was good she said (pork belly and veggies) but overall would try others since wasn't anything out of this world. The first time I had been to a plaza like this was in Japantown in San Francisco and I fell immediately in love. This plaza has a lot of Chinese stores, Vietnamese stores, and Thai stores! Including import stores, restaurants, a Taiwanese bakery, a travel agency and more! It's definitely worth a look! I have never in any part of the country visited found such a varied assortment of Asian-unique products, foods and spices - meats, fish, seafood and produce in such a culturally exceptional atmosphere! I would bet that if you want it, and they don't have it, it doesn't exist! This place is humongous, enormous, huge - yet incredibly clean and neat, with fantastic service, nice and helpful staff. Hadn't been in here in a while, and decided to bring my wife on a Sunday excursion. Probably the best variety of tropical fruits and vegetables in the state. If someone knows of better, please let me know. Bought a case of mangoes, tried one, so sweet it made my teeth tingle. Nice fresh half papaya, sugar plums, delicious! Can of lychee fruit, coconut cream, and lots of other goodies. On check out, show your Veterans ID for a discount. We then hit the bakery, which was rather depleted, being Sunday afternoon. Bought a few little cream cakes. Ordered dinner to go from one of the Vietnamese restaurants, then continued browsing. Around the bend found a cool little curio shop and bought a lucky bamboo plant. Found the new food court, looks interesting, but for another day. Bought a grapefruit iced tea, which was delicious and refreshing. Picked up the dinner and called it a day. I highly recommend visiting this place. It feels like a day in an Asian city, but air conditioned. read more

Mekong Plaza does not disappoint! When I arrived in Phoenix three years ago, I met Sam M. at Lee Lee's International Supermarket. In our conversation about must-go places, he referred me to Mekong Plaza. However because of distance, I kept putting the visit off. Thank you, Karen W. for bringing me to this fabulous back to Asia experience. The shops, the diverse cultures, wafting smells of street food magically come together at Mekong Plaza. On the outside, I was excited to see a Thai Foot Massage Place. When I walked in, I was greeted with sights, sounds and smells of dim sum (Mekong Palace). We came to eat at Heng's Kitchen, but I was drawn to the Banh Mi shop, there was pho to try, my stomach and eyes were greedy, but I knew I absolutely could not take everything in. Mesa residents, can I express how jealous I am that you have access to such a delicious Mecca? I also saw the Boba tea shop, which I also noticed that Karen W. was sipping on while she waited for me to arrive. Needless to say, I need to plan another trip to Mesa, sooner than later. read more

Good Little Asian Mall Complex Conveniently located off Dobson and Apache in Mesa AZ this Mall complex has everything from Thai food to Pho and shaved ice. A packed Asian market also fills a good portion of the mall. Parking can be tricky on the weekends as this place gets packed. read more

That review is under AA Ozzy Bakery's Yelp page. --- Don't know what happened to my review that went with the photos of pho below- must've accidentally erased it when I clicked on "UPDATE MY REVIEW." Just to rehash... Mom found her shrimp pho just OK-- she ordered pho from another stall on the following visit. I decided to try the duck pho again, as I found the first try to be very tasty! On the second visit though, I asked for the mushrooms to be omitted-- while I LIKE mushrooms, mushrooms don't like me (mushroom allergy). The second bowl was still delicious, but definitely not as great as the first one. No surprise, since mushrooms fall under the umami group (one of the five basic tastes, lending "meaty" and "brothy" flavors). I also noticed more pieces of duck in the second bowl, which would've altered the flavor profile of the second bowl. read more

One of the few Asian shopping centers in the Phoenix metro area. There's an Asian market, various restaurants (Thai, Vietnamese, Boba, Chinese), and a few retail shops. It doesn't have the selection or energy of the Chinatown markets in Vegas, LA, or Orange County. Kind of shocking actually when you consider that there are 3x more people in Phoenix than Vegas. They used to be King in the Asian markets. However today experience was terrible. Waited nearly an hour for fish to be Cleaned and Cooked. And NO! It was not busy. This is an Asian mall with various outlets, including a Haircut place, Thai restaurant, trinkets/collectibles giftshop, insurance, ice cream, other restaurants as well as an Asian supermarket that's similar to LeeLees in its offering and layout (very smelly like LeeLees, too). It's a cool Asian strip mall complete with various restaurants and shops. The Market here is pretty solid. There are many Asian markets around town but this plaza has a market that has a notably large produce and meat market and shops so it's pretty unique for Phoenix. The prices are also good, better than I've seen on the West Valley for veggies and the like. I have only really been to the market and the big restaurant here and I was impressed with both. i went for DimSum today and this was only my 2nd time here. 1st time was on a weekday sat by the counters and where the food comes out; Service was great. figure today i go for some DimSum instead of going to phoenix palace only 3 miles away. Host sat me along the wall opposite of the kitchen side where there are other rooms along the back wall. Service was lousy, the lady pushing the cart with buns was the only friendly face and she's the only one that helped me. I was waiting for my rice crepe with beef (beef cheung fun) to come aroud and sat there for 20 minutes and never even came around. Saw her come out of the kitchen then she dissappeared. I asked the nice lady that helped me from the beginning for my beef cheung fun and she got it for me. After she got it for me now all of a sudden the lady with the cheung fun cart shows up out of no where and stay in that particular area for a bit and when she went past me didn't even stop, slow down or ask if i wanted anything, lousy service, bad service attitudes except for the 1 lady. then I only got 11 small plates which came out to over $70 I asked the host /cashier how much are the plates and told me $5.50 per plate. Told him I'm never coming back again and for the lousy service it was way too expensive. The host wasn't that friendly niether to begin with. From now on i'm staying with Phoenix Palace in chandler on dobson and warner for my DimSum and Best Hong Kong dining in mesa right on dobson. once again very poor and bad service. management needs to step up to the plate and get themselves trained so they can have a sufficient and well managed staff to serve food. these problems all start from management because all they want is money and don't care about customer service. I'd stay away if your a new customer wanting to check them out but go to phoenix palace instead for better service and better food and prices read more

It's a huge shopping market that carries anything Asian related you can think of- mostly. They fry fish in the seafood department and they give 10% off of your total purchase. TIP: great place to beat the heat and hang out, buy asian groceries, check out the restaurants inside. There's no chinatown in Phoenix, but this plaza is the closest thing to it. The supermarket, and all the stores and restaurants are inside so you don't have to stand out in the heat. The asian theme food court is not as big as the ones you find in san jose or la but it's really better than nothing. one of the stalls even have chinese bbq! read more

Mekong Palace 66 S. Dobson Road Mesa, 85202 Just when I thought I had found one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Phoenix area, I find another one. This is located all the way in the back on the north side of the Mekong Shopping Center, and is worth looking for. Whether you want an inexpensive meal of Dim Sum, or a full banquet, they can accommodate your needs. Most of the Dim Sum are only $2.99, and the variety and quality is wonderful. But the real shining star is the main menu. They have quite a variety of seafood, and fresh is the key word. A lot of it is still swimming in tanks in the main dining room including live sturgeon and spotted prawns. Their menu covers the usual Hong Kong style of cooking, but it's the unusual dishes where they really shine. Items like Spicey and Salty Dungeness Crab (market price ) - so good that you cannot stop eating it until every little morsel has been devoured. Mussels in a pepper and garlic butter sauce brought bubbling in the shell to your table. Bet you can't eat just one. Companion had the seafood noodle soup ($7.95), and pronounced it fabulous. It was loaded with everything from big, succulent shrimp to pieces of fish and tender squid, all served over tender noodles in a beautiful broth with tender greens. Even the tea is special, with a wonderful flavor that was not typical of black tea's. Other wonderful items on the menu include Crab and Sharks Fin Soup ($16.00 and a bargain at that), Cold Jelly Fish ($8.95), Black Mushrooms & Duck Feet ($8.95) and Szechuan Scallops ($11.95). For the vegetarians, try the Spinach with Garlic ($7.50 and wonderful), Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce ($8.50), or the Braised Tofu ($8.95). I have yet to have a bad dish or even a slightly bad dish at this restaurant. Restrooms are a short walk away, but are beautifully appointed and sparkling clean.
