Two weeks ago (on a Saturday morning), I heard a grinding noise from the rear of my car. I had been putting off getting my brake pads and rotors changed, which my regular mechanic had quoted $325 including labor. Because it was a Saturday morning in the summer and every other option was closed for the weekend or longer, I drove to Meineke. They sent me an initial estimate of $1200 for front and rear brakes, insisting that both needed replacement. I wanted to wait and go to my trusted mechanic but was terrified to drive so I agreed to only the rear, for almost $600. I wanted to cry because I knew this was an overcharge but I was desperate and fearful of driving home. Everybody I have spoken to since has corroborated that this was an absurd overcharge. Two days ago my car began making an odd noise, so I brought it to the trusted mechanic to whom I should have brought it in the first place and saved myself nearly $275. The noise was due to the fact that Meineke DID NOT PROPERLY PUT THE WHEEL BACK ON MY CAR. So, to review: Meineke shamelessly took advantage of my situation to overcharge me nearly twice the going rate and did not even bother to put my car back correctly, endangering my personal safety. I cannot express how furious I am about this entire situation, and I will never let them take advantage of me again if I have to ride buses around town until I can get an appointment with a reputable mechanic. We suffered a flat on the way to a much needed weekend get away to Hendersonville. We were able to change the tire on the side of the highway at dusk and continue up the mountain to our rental. We knew the car was not riding correctly but were low on options and ready to call it a night. After unsuccessfully trying to resolve the issue for a while Saturday morning, we decided to chance the 30 minute drive to Meineke. The team at this store took great care of us, identified & resolved the problem. They truly redeemed the remainder of our trip. I called Meineke on Fairfield Rd early Saturday AM. this shop is open until 4 pm on Saturday!!!!! and was a little over a few miles away. Mark was not too busy nor acted abrupt. No promises made, "let us look at it". quote and problem came fast by text. I approved of quote quickly by text after thorough report. Car back with me about 2:30 pm. Did not miss a session of the conference. Car was great going home. I had prayed that I would contact right person to help with this. It was my first call to a shop. a friends brother-in-law in the Asheville area who is broker with large real estate firm offered absolutely no help. So I will say: we often think we know the right people to help, but there are angels unaware to us. read more

After I was told it would be around $750, I called the dealership where I purchased my car and explained what the folks at Meineke said needed done and the Nissan dealer was able to complete the service for around $300. Not only that but the mechanic dirtied my tan interior, including a spot that won't come out of the fabric. Also, it was a $35 for a brake diagnostic check. Go elsewhere! read more

Take your car somewhere else. I should have read the reviews before I choose this location. We were passing through and we needed to get a headlight replaced and oil change. Honestly I would have given it 4 stars based on the customer service: almost turning me away without checking. Made me second guess myself. The headlight screws needed to be replaced because they were rusted and stripping. I didn't have time to inspect the work they did, nor should I have to, but what alerted me to the issue was at night the headlight pointed much lower than it should. Then when I took a look at it in the daylight they only replaced one of the two screws! That's just shoddy work. Would have taken then less than 5 minutes more to do it properly. read more

Made an appointment for andoil change at 10 am on a Thursday. Got there a few minutes early. It is now and my car is still in the garage. They continually tried to up sell me on other services saying they could change a five dollar air filter for 50 dollars. I guess it's just time to buy some ramps so I can get under my car and start changing my own oil again. I first went to meineke because I kept having to refill my coolant, it seemed like it was leaking or there was some problem with it. They could not find any issues and sent me on my way. I kept having to refill the coolant and the car would overheat at times. I took it to several places to get looked at, once a different mechanic let me know that the radiator needed to be replaced and another place confirmed that, I got estimates from mechanics including meineke. I never should have gone back there after they couldn't even diagnose the problem, but they offered a good price. ( by the way, I ended up paying more than they originally said so I didn't save any money, plus my car blew up because of them... getting to that part soon) so, I had my radiator and temperature gauges replaced. My boyfriend brought my car home and didn't drive it for a few days. The next time the car was driven, lol the engine cut off at a red light. When he tried to turn the car back on, he noticed a fire starting under the hood. He ran out of the car and within seconds it was in flames. The car was completely totaled from the fire. Meineke denied any responsibility for the fire, even though the car was worked on by them, and then immediately caught on fire the first time it was actually driven. The manager won't return my calls. I am out almost $1000 from the repairs and buying the parts and they won't even refund the labor or give me the time of day. I spent the last of my money fixing the car just for it to completely blow up and end up totaled. TLDR: meineke fixed my car and the next day the engine caught on fire and blew up, totaling my car and meineke won't do anything about it. Not even an apology. DO NOT EVER FIX YOUR CAR AT MEINEKE ESPECIALLY FAIRVIEW RD LOCATION IN ASHEVILLE. they don't know what they're doing and will just take your money to ruin your car. read more

They Checked the air conditioning and they said it was good only needed freon refill. After a a week the air conditioner was not working again. I paid almost $300 for that check and i mentioned several times i refilled freon 2 weeks prior to going to them but they still said the a/c was good. In other words, they don't seem to know much about A/C and overcharged for a simple check. I rather take elsewhere than to deal with them again since its obvious they don't know about A/C repair. Customer's beware: This meineke location is not trustworthy. On my last visit, both the behind the counter representative and the manager lied to me, trying to trick me into having services I didn't need performed on my vehicle. They told me that I needed my timing belt changed (Car is at 110k miles, representative said it needed to be changed at 100k miles and manager said 60k miles, it actually should be changed at 150k miles), they told me I needed two new tired and an alignment fix (tires are still in great condition and have at least another year on them before they need to be changed) and they told me that they needed to replace my engine head gasket for a brake leak even though no brake fluid comes close to touching that head gasket. I wish I could give negative stars. This place is a joke. The manager is a joke and the owner is a joke. I went in for a basic oil change, and left with a broke dipstick and no oil change. After breaking my dipstick, they refused to pay for another one because it was brittle and things break when they are old (my car is a 2008, not that old). Tried to reason with the manager and the owner, with absolutely no luck. Owner told me they would remove the broken one free of charge but would not pay for a replacement. Couldn't tell me when they could get to it to remove the broken dipstick. It literally took my husband 5 minutes to remove it. Sorry, but 5 minutes of labor is not worth $25. I will never be back this Meineke or any other stores that are owned by Doug and Maria Field. They are as crooked as they come. read more

I would highly recommend...NOT bringing your vehicle to this establishment for any type of service. They upsell you on "oil treatments" that you are supposed to run through the engine to cleanse deposits that have accrued over time...then drain the treatment and perform an oil change. After checking the oil level because the engine was making odd noises...it was discovered that the oil level was extremely overfilled. This has caused serious engine damage. When the vehicle was brought back to the shop, the mechanic "David" said that the oil level was fine and that the level is an indicator of the oil as well as the treatment and that the level on the dipstick is fine (that makes no sense). The car manual clearly states that levels shouldn't go beyond the marks on the dipstick...yes, those marks are there for a reason. He was highly unprofessional when this was brought to his attention ( saying I could "go somewhere else"). Also, they supposedly perform a "multi-point inspection". Upon checking levels of fluids it was noticed they failed to fill the coolant....(it was almost empty). Another serious overlooked detail that could cause serious engine damage. Bottom line, they seemingly don't know what they are doing at this establishment. read more

I took my 1995 pickup into Meineke on Fairview Road to replace an intermediate emergency brake cable and get an inspection, hoping to have this done before the tag expired. My regular mechanic couldn't get to it in time. The Meineke guy called me and said the work and parts would cost around $150 plus tax and the inspection would be another $13. So, about $170. That seemed really high, but I already had the truck there and I'd save a little by not having to pay the late fee on the tag. But the next afternoon the Meineke guy called me back and said that they needed to "disassemble the back brakes" to give enough slack to connect the cable. An additional $150 or about $320 total. That was over the top. The first $150 was too high. I realized I needed to get out of the situation, or pay a small fortune for a simple repair, so I picked up the truck. The guy had told me smartly, "$97.06 and you're out the door!" I paid the invoice realizing I had been gouged. They charged $19.85 for a cable that cost $12.50 right next door at Advance Auto Parts. They charged $21.97 for a connector that probably cost them half that much. Then they charged $49.49 to connect a cable, stretch it out to discover it was 1/2 inch short and then take it off. (It's clear they didn't know what the job entailed in the first place.) Work that took probably less than five minutes. To summarize, I paid nearly $100 for $25 in parts, wasted two trips out for two people, and my truck still isn't fixed. Just don't go to Meineke on Fairview, except maybe for an oil change. There's a reason they have so many bad reviews at Yelp. I wish I had read them ahead of time. And by the way, it's pretty easy to tell that most of their five star ratings are probably fake. They're written to a formula. Oh, and they don't take checks. My regular mechanic takes checks. read more

They wanted to do diagnostic testing which would probably take 2 hrs, at 90.00 per hour. He said I might need a new motor. I called my mechanic friend and told him what was going on. went to have my oil changed, in the package it was said that i should have got my tires rotated they said they would not rotate my tires because i need new ones and tried to sell me knew tires ($200). i checked my records, and there are still 30,000 miles left for my tires and they have over a year left on their warranty. So I took it to my normal mechanic who said that it was not leaking oil and that the mechanic that had changed my oil had not checked to see if it were leaking until after he inadvertently (i hope) splashed oil on the part.
