We had some time to kill while wandering around Berlin so why not drink some craft brew. I hadn't…read moreintended on stopping here but when I found them on Yelp, it looked like my kind of place. A tiny beer garden tucked away in the Market. It's not the easiest place to find since it's the only place in the market that's not out in the forefront. The best way for me to give a navigational tip is that if you're looking at the toilet area, do an about face and head to Heidenpeters. It's literally 180° from there. Their Mosaic session IPA blew me away and I wanted more. Unfortunately they were not able to break a €50 bill so I was only able to sample one additional brew. I went with the Pale and it was okay. Pretty standard if a bit sweet. I would have loved to try more for sure. I felt bad using all change to pay for my beer but it's not as if I didn't have any money. So of course I sent my lovely wife to do the deed. The beertender informed her that they don't ordinarily take change but she made an exception. So I suppose you should bring your card or small bills if you intend to have a few brews here.

It seems as though I had Heidenpeters built up far too much in my head before finally making my way…read morethere, because it wasn't as mindblowingly awesome as I had hoped. For one, there was only a pale ale on tap, when I was hoping for more variety. The taste was very pale ale-y, with a hoppier edge, but it wasn't necessarily stand-out or distinctive. I mean, I love my American microbrews and was hoping his would be a bit more distinct in flavor than the standard pilsner beers regularly available here. Additionally, the service was slooowwwww. I guess that's what you get for visiting on a night like Street Food Thursday, so I can't complain too much, but even so, my wait for food was shorter than this. Also, the fact that I had to stand in line for five minutes to return my glass for Pfand was kind of frustrating, but that's just part of the deal, I suppose. Of course, this review is not the be-all end-all, and I am looking forward to returning, perhaps on a Friday, when the atmosphere is more relaxed and hopefully there are a couple choices on tap. I would really like to give Heidenpeters a four or five-star review, so here's hoping that my first experience was just a fluke.
