A True Blessing for My Child and My Career…read more
As both a teacher and a parent at Evergreen Montessori Academy, I wanted to share my honest experience because I get to see the school from both sides, and that means a lot to me.
My Experience as a Teacher
First, let me just say that I genuinely love working at Evergreen! One thing that is really important to me is feeling supported by the people I work under. I am naturally an advocate for myself and others, so having a work environment where I can speak up, share concerns, and know that I am being heard makes a huge difference for me.
I have a great relationship with our owner, Mrs. Kristine and whenever I have a concern, I feel comfortable going to her. She listens and addresses things promptly, which I really appreciate. Our new director, Ms. Sarahi has also been amazing! She is very friendly, helpful, and approachable, and I feel comfortable communicating with her as well.
As teachers, we spend so much time caring for other people's children, and I believe it is important for us to feel supported, too. When teachers feel heard and valued, it makes a difference in the environment we create for the children.
And let me just say, we have some amazing teachers! I work alongside educators who genuinely love what they do and bring so much knowledge, education, and experience into the classroom. Early childhood education is about so much more than watching children throughout the day. We are helping shape little minds, build confidence, teach important life skills, and create a safe space for children to grow.
For me personally, having supportive leadership makes all the difference. I know myself, and I know that I thrive when I feel supported in my workplace. The fact that I can honestly say I enjoy coming to work and love my position says a lot!
Now, Let's Talk About My Experience as a Parent!
I know there have been some changes at Evergreen recently, especially with leadership and staffing, and I understand that change can be hard for parents. When it comes to our children, we want consistency. We want to know who is caring for them, whether they are happy, and whether they are getting the love and attention they deserve. Those concerns are completely understandable.
As a domestic violence survivor and single mother, I am VERY intentional about who I allow around my daughter and who has the opportunity to influence her. Her safety and well-being will always come first. I don't take choosing a school for her lightly, and I would never keep her in an environment where I didn't feel she was safe and cared for.
My daughter is 2.5 years old, and I can honestly say she is thriving at Evergreen! She is learning so much, growing, and being loved on by her teachers. As both her mom and a teacher in the building, I get to see things from a different perspective, and I feel confident in the environment she is in.
Now, to address the elephant in the room: YES, there have been changes. But from what I have personally experienced and observed, I believe these changes have brought some positive things to the school.
Our new director has come in with so much passion and has really hit the ground running. Our owner has also become more hands-on and involved, and I appreciate that she is willing to listen, address concerns, and be present. It matters when the people leading a school are willing to step in and do the work rather than just sit back.
I have also seen efforts to make sure children have familiar, trusted teachers in their classrooms during this transition. As a mom, I know how important that is. Our babies need to feel comfortable and secure, especially when things around them are changing.
Of course, every parent is going to have their own experience, and I would never tell another parent how they should feel about their child's care. What I can do is share MY experience, and my experience has been positive.
My Honest Thoughts
If you're a parent considering Evergreen or you're already here and have concerns about the recent changes, I encourage you to communicate with the administration, ask questions, and give the team an opportunity to work with you.
At the end of the day, we all want the same thing: happy children, safe classrooms, caring teachers, and a school where our little ones can learn and thrive.
I can speak for myself when I say that I feel supported as a teacher and confident as a mother. I love that I get to work alongside people who care about early childhood education while also knowing that my own daughter is growing and learning in that same environment.
For me, that's a blessing. Being able to love where I work AND feel good about where my daughter spends her day is something I don't take for granted.
