We absolutely LOVE Foothill Progressive Montessori School. Our kids have been at this school since 2022, and I was a student 1997-1999. Ms. Kanthi was my teacher and now she owns the same school and teaches my kids! She is absolutely amazing! All of the staff are incredible. Ms. Fatema, Ms. Chrissy, Ms. Kim, Ms. Sumudu, Ms. Raquel, Ms. Angelica, Ms. Hazmik. Literally every single one of them. All of them treat the kids as if they were their own, so much love and patience with the kids. My kids love going to school and they actually get excited about learning. Ms. Fatema's science class has been amazing in instilling a love for learning for our oldest child. We can't wait for our other kids to take Ms. Fatema's science class and Ms. Kim's science class. My oldest is definitely ready for kindergarten solely because of Ms. Fatema. The school has great hours for working parents from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Hot lunch is available for an additional fee. The school goes all out for all of the holidays and graduation. There are lots of opportunities for parent involvement should you want to be involved. I sent my daughter to Progressive Montessori for over 2 years. One of our friends was already sending his daughter to this location and recommended this place to us when we were moving into the area. It was my daughter's first time transitioning, so we had a hard time briefly in the beginning, but teachers at this location are very caring and well experienced, so it was rather a smooth transition. Fast forward 2 years, now the first thing my daughter does when she arrives at the school is hugging teachers. I guess that would self-explain how much she likes this school. She loves all the teachers, Ms Kanthi, Ms. Chrissy, Ms Fatema, Ms Talia, Ms. Diana, Ms Raquel, Ms. Kim, Ms Hasmik, and Ms Karine. They are great teachers and I really appreciate their encouragements and supports. My daughter also learned a lot, I always amazed by how much she learns from her school like counting numbers, writing the alphabets, and oh, she's really into addition these days. As working parents, the lunch catering and daycare option during major holidays were big advantages for us. She enjoyed summer programs as well, along with seasonal events throughout the year. Now my daughter is leaving for TK, and I'm sure she's gonna miss all her teachers and friends dearly. She got so many lovely memories, and we would be always grateful for that. Foothill Progressive is an amazing school, and my daughter absolutely loved it there! She started in April 2021 at the age of 3, and she graduated in June 2023. All the teachers were extremely welcoming and involved with the children, as well as Ms Kanthi, the director of the school. So many of the teachers have been at the school for decades, which shows just how much they enjoy helping grow these young minds. My daughter loved all the teachers, especially Ms. Fatema, Ms. Chrissy and Ms. Raquel...so much so that we visited the school last week because she wanted to tell all the teachers about her new school, but also how much she missed them all! If you do attend Foothill Progressive Montessori, which I highly recommend, you should consider taking the extracurricular activities. Ms. Fatema's science class and Ms. Kim's art class were fantastic, and exceeded all my expectations. And both teachers would send pictures home each week of my daughter completing the art or science project. In addition, my daughter participated in the dance class and sports class, and thoroughly enjoyed them both as well. There are not enough words to articulate how amazing this school is. My very anxious daughter started here in Ms. Chrissy's class and had a pretty rough 2 month transition period where she would cry when I left. Ms. Chrissy went above and beyond to not only comfort my daughter, but also comfort me by giving me reassurance that my daughter was adjusting fine after I left. I didn't think it could get any better than Ms. Chrissy, and then my daughter moved up to the 4/5 year old class with Ms. Fatema (and Ms. Kim) and she was instantly drawn to Ms. Fatema. Ms. Fatema and Ms. Kim are structured and caring- they promote independence within their classroom but also know when to intervene and assist a student. I have them to thank for making my daughter's transition to Kindergarten much smoother because they really prepared their students for the transition. All of the staff at this school truly care about their students and provide an emotionally safe environment for them to grow their independence and creativity. The highlight of my daughter's experience at this Montessori was Ms. Fatema's science class. For months she'd beg me to put her in the science class, and when I finally caved, something ignited in her. She grew a passion for science and experiments. What a wonderful opportunity this is for students- and Ms. Fatema sends parents photos of their kids doing the science experiments which is always a bonus. My daughter now wants to be a scientist when she grows up. And although she is excited to now be a kindergartner, she still talks about missing Ms. Fatema's science class. We were so lucky to find this school for our son! He was two when he started and we were amazed by how quickly he adapted to his new school. All the teachers are so good and they've been there for years! This says a lot about the school and how it's run. There were difficult drop offs but Ms Diana , Ms Raquel , Ms Chrissy were amazing consoling my son. Ms Kim is a gifted artist and also teaches the children art if they choose to participate. They also offer sports, music , dance and other classes. They have a fun summer program for the kids as well - since most of us unfortunately don't get the summer off from work haha Ms. Kanthi is the school administrator and is very hands on. She knows all the children by name, loves her school and it shows in all she does. Amazing performances for the parents to enjoy watching their children participate. If you see one of the productions they are very high quality! Secondly being busy with crazy , hectic jobs it's nice to know that you have an option to have the school provide lunch for a small fee . Snacks are offered free of charge which is great! We will be so sad leaving since we are moving out of state otherwise our son would be finishing his pre-k at this school. He loves going each day, enjoys all his friends and has grown so much for the two years he's been there. Plus he has the best manners, communicates clearly and his coloring skills have improved :) thanks to the montessori method and how hands on the staff is I did not mention all the teachers by name or Ms Marie who acts like a second mom but we are grateful to all of you! My son and my daughter both attended this school for two years. I loved how the preschool actually felt like a little school and was structured so that kids learn responsibility, socialize, and learn a lot along the way. My kids had Ms. Chrissy who is just so caring and wonderful with the kids. She has such a kind and gentle way with children and it is clear they respond so well to her. The second year my kids had ms fatema. They really enjoyed being in her class and I saw them blossom so beautifully during their time there. She really works so hard and cares tremendously for the children. The school celebrates all the holidays in such a cute way. From parties to dressing up to the arts and crafts. In the winter and the end of the year they do a huge production at the lanterman theater (the exception was this past pandemic year). All the parents absolutely love this production. It is just amazing the amount of work that they put in. It really shows how dedicated all the teachers are. My kids' love for learning and school began at this preschool. Last year, our son went to preschool here, and loved it dearly. I've been meaning to write this review for a long time, but time has been a little strange for all of us lately I suppose. This was my feedback for his work with Ms Fatema when distanced learning was still offered, but these feelings apply for my overall experience with the school: I would give the class with Ms Fatema an A+. And the structure was certainly very welcome, as it allowed him an opportunity to remember that structure isn't just about being told no, but about self-control in order to accomplish particular things and learn, which I think helped him a lot. He also learned quite a lot, and it was very helpful to hear what you were working on with them to help guide our homeschooling. He struggled initially to not just be frustrated with needing to follow instructions etc and focusing on people via video I think, but whenever he had a class where he listened well and could show he was learning, he felt very proud. And I think you did a wonderful job keeping everything in balance, and helping them to still feel a real sense of being in class together in spite of the virtual setting. It was an extremely valuable and helpful experience for him, and it will be greatly missed. We hope the situation gets back to normal soon too, and we can all be back together again as well! And we hope all of you at the school will be safe and well. In addition, I would like to add that when he attended school in person, he was always shown care and consideration for his needs, and I saw that with all the students there. Each one was valued for their own merits and personality, while the school balanced making sure every child was included and didn't get lost in the shuffle. There was a feeling of calm there, a gentle sense of humor, and enjoyment of the children both for what they already could do and what their potential was that I thought was beautiful and inspired my parenting as well. The school we signed our daughter up for didn't have space for the summer, so we ended up at this school. There's happy children and she was one of them. After summer was over, we took her to the school we had originally signed up for and for about a month she complained and cried for her "old school." We are back and she's happy. Most all teachers have been there 5-10years plus, so happy teachers equal happy children. Teachers are super caring, loving, and kind. I have sent two children through this school over the past 5 years. I realize how difficult it can be to choose a school for your child so I want to share my experience, which has been nothing short of positive. I volunteered on several occasions at this school and witnessed firsthand the love and care that is poured into these children and ensuring that every holiday and occasion is memorable. My older child had a great experience here. She attended pre-pandemic and did some zoom schooling with her teachers during the pandemic prior to graduating. She was very well prepared for Kindergarten and felt confident in her abilities, which speaks to the academic excellence of the school. My younger child also attended here and I saw how they truly meet every child's unique needs differently. What I love about this school is that it is small enough where the teachers become like extended family. Kanthi and her team of wonderful teachers know all of the students who attend this school by name so no adult is interacting with your child who doesn't know him/her. I have had the opportunity to know all of the teachers here and they are all wonderful and each have a unique way of emotionally supporting the kids. Quite a few teachers have been teaching at this school for decades. In my opinion, it is the right amount of play and learning and they facilitate the socialization and emotional development of kids in a gentle but proactive way. They promote politeness and respect which I appreciated. The director has decades (38 years) of experience running schools and this is apparent. She cares for the children as if they are her own and will often make her rounds ensuring optimal care. I always felt as though my children were safe and cared for when I would drop them off here. There were a few occasions where I went to pick up my child and she was sitting with Ms. Kanthi chatting away. They meet your child where they are at as far as creating an individualized plan that works for them. Their food menu is also diverse and encourages children to eat different foods. My picky eater started eating new things! They also offered dance, sports, computer classes, and other enrichment activities over the course of the school year. During their time here, they made solid academic gains, improved their social skills and advanced their social/emotional development, and most importantly, felt safe and cared for. They both ask to visit their teachers whenever I am in proximity of the school and I see that as a testament to how positive their experiences were here. I briefly sent my son here before immediately withdrawing him. He fell and hit his head on the concrete, sustained abrasions to his temple and arm due to lack of appropriate supervision. He still has scarring from this incident. What's worse is that the school did not notify me. I found out after seeing the injuries on my son and asking him about them. The school gave two different versions of what occurred and did not respond until a day after I had emailed them asking what had occurred to my son. Following a state investigation, I found out the heartbreaking truth, which was that he was not supervised. He fell, hit his head and arm on the concrete and proceeded to cry, without me ever being notified and not knowing the truth until the state investigation. I withdrew my son immediately after this incident, however, my concern is for the children that still attend this school and for any future prospective children attending this school. My daughter started going here when she was 4 and she just graduated this year. We honestly love the school! The layout it's beautiful. They have spacious classrooms and a big green backyard. There are cameras everywhere. The teachers are amazing (all females). They are all very nurturing ( especially ms. Chrissy!). My daughter has built great friendships, some of them who she has kept seeing even after graduating. The curriculum it's great. Ms. Fatema who was her teacher before graduating, is amazing. She's very passionate about teaching and she really inspired my daughter to learn and thrive in school. She also teaches a science experiments class on Fridays (along with other classes / for an extra fee) which my daughter attended. My daughter never wanted to miss school on Fridays because she loved her science class. It was a fun class but also educational. Ms. Fatema would send us pictures of what the kids did in class every Friday. I just wished the classes she offered were more affordable for the parents but other than that I think the classes were great. This school was exceptional for my daughter and she made some great memories she will never forget. I cannot recommend this school enough. I moved my daughter from a play-based daycare at age 3.5 to this preschool. I loved the play based curriculum for the early years of social development, but I was looking for something that would give her a stronger head start academically as we prepared for kindergarten, while still giving her enough time to be a kid and play. The combined traditional preschool/Montessori approach was very attractive as this school doesn't have the same "rigid" edge that we felt many of the other Montessori's in the area did. I also liked the diversity at this school as my children are mixed. My daughter is graduating from "preschool" this weekend and I couldn't be happier with the choice to send her to this school. She can write all of her letters, read and spell 3 letter words, count to 100 and do basic math. She also has learned geography and flags of the countries that even surpassed my knowledge. Ms Kanthi, the director, is very warm and I have enjoyed that she is often in the classrooms developing a relationship with the kids at morning dropoff. The teachers that are there have been there for a long time, you can tell they are a community and my daughter raves about them. They also offer supplemental experiences for the kids such as dance class and gymnastics, which is great because I didn't have to spend my evenings/weekends taking my daughter to classes. In the summer they have themed activities and a petting zoo. And my favorite part are the holiday and end of the year programs. They do such a great job teaching the kids their performances and it is a real treat for the parents! If you are looking for a really great preschool, come check this one out. You will be impressed. This is an amazing school. Both my daughter and son are in the school. A few years ago, right after having my son, I was searching all over the foothills for a good Montessori school. I visited several schools and while they were nice, I was not sold. I walked into the school, was greeted kindly by Mrs. Kanthi. she was very professional, very friendly and I could tell had the heart of a grandma. The school was clean, freshly painted, flowers planted and smelled clean. After discussing the program and system I decided to put my daughter who was 3 into the pre-school system. She blossomed. She loved her teachers Mrs. Lulu and Mrs.Chrissy . I had no concerns about leaving her with them and knew they would love her like their own. She did amazing in the class. She has gone from pre-school to pre-K, to Kindergarten and just graduated from Kinder and starts 1st grade. She absolutely loves the kids. They teach Spanish., My daughter can have a conversation with another kid in Spanish easily. This is part of the program. They also offer extra services such as dancing lessons, karate lessons, piano lessons, gymnastics and swimming lessons during the summer. They are taught respect, manners, discipline of completing each project. She plays well with the kids, the kids are all very kind to one another and most of all she has top test scores. She has been reading since the beginning of Kinder and is well into 1st grade level reading. When my son turned 2, I put him into the pre-preschool program. He has done amazing. he absolutely loves his teachers, most of all Mrs. Diana. They have done so well with him. Many times he likes to stay till the end of the day just to be with the kids. He is now 3 and in the pre-school program and is doing exceptional. The school is fantastic. they recently renovated again, upgrading all the floor to beautiful hardwood floor class rooms, repainted the entire inside walls. they keep everything at a very high standard and cared for. The staff are wonderful. The rate is great. You get so much for your money. But most of all the kids are smart and well mannered. I would HIGHLY recommend the school for everyone of my friends. My daughter started at Foothill Progressive Montessori School as a two year old and we are so pleased with and grateful for the care and educational foundation she started there. The teachers are all extremely caring and have been at the school for many years (a rarity in many schools and day cares). My son's experience here was just ok. I got the feeling that the teachers were on the strict side and they focused on memorizing a lot. Neither of those are necessarily a bad thing, but he did seem to get sick a lot. Initially I thought it was just part of going to school, but since we switched schools he rarely gets sick. read more

My daughter started here in July 2011 and I have been pleased. Some of the teachers do have heavy accents, but not all. They are attentive to the children, and the children all seem happy. My daughter started at this school at 2.5 years old and is now completing pre-school there. This school is wonderful! The teachers have control of the classrooms, there is a curriculum that the teachers follow day to day that provides consistency, and the "shows" they put on twice a year are just fantastic. The teacher turn-over is really low which says a lot about the school. Also, the Director Ms. Kanthi is really flexible with scheduling, making last minute changes, accommodating weird schedules, etc., and being a working parent I very much appreciated this flexibility. We chose this preschool because our friend's daughter went there and that there was no waiting list, I needed space for two. My daughter was there age 4-5 and my son ages 2-5. I loved the school. I was always impressed at how calm it was whenever I was there, especially with so many young kids! The owner and teachers are all very nice, and very interested in the children. I like that it is very diverse and they celebrate many different cultures, even during their shows. My kids were well prepared for kindergarten, and this is my son's last week of school, and he told me he doesn't want to leave his school or teachers. They are very flexible and accomodating and kind. And the teachers keep you updated on your child's progress. My son went to this school and he loved it. I was also fortunate enough to work here as a teacher as well. This gave me the opportunity to have both a parent's perspective, as well as a teacher's/employee's perspective. I must say that I was pleased as both a parent and employee. The staff was amazing and so was the school. Most of all, the director of the school, Ms. Kanthi, was wonderful. She's extremely caring and nurturing to not only the students, but also her employees. I used it as a day care because the only good thing about it was that it had very flexible times and days, and that was mainly due to the fact that the school was run by a very greedy director/owner and empty. She would pack in the classrooms with as many students as she can and then hire a non-english speaking aid and count them as a teacher. Most of the teachers spoke with heavy accents. During the 6 months that my son was there, a boy fractured his finger in the door because the teachers were not watching them closely and allowed all the kids to play with the door. Also, one teacher was fired for hitting a student and the state regulators were called to investigate and call the parents. I witnessed the owner/director yank a student hard by his arm and then change her tone when she saw me walk in. I would not send my child here, and hope that one day they will shut this place down. Please do not confuse this place with the other Montessori preschools in La Canada. The other ones are better from what I have heard. Try the Kids Klub in Pasadena, or the other preschools in La Canada instead. Hope this helps all parents in the area. read more

Our son started at Foothill Progressive Montessori preschool at the age of 2. He has just finished the Kindergarten class, and if we had to do this all over again (which we will with our youngest son), we would do the same exact thing...and that is to attend this school. The foundation they have instilled in our son is invaluable. At the age of 2, they guided him and taught him how to be in a social setting. He learned to share, play, take naps at a designated hour...he gained STRUCTURE! At the age of three, they refined his fine motor skills, his ABCs and his numbers. At the age of four, he was writing! He knew his continents, and new how to identify the flags of international countries. Not only did they focus on education, twice a year the kids put on a show with singing and dancing. The school outdoes itself with the costumes, props and time they dedicate to these performances. As our soon finished his Kindergarten class, he reads 1st grade level books, is able to complete multiplication and division problems, is able to complete dictation exams (he writes whatever is read to him), and many more. Their approach for teaching is excellent. A child not only needs instructors that know how to communicate so that they can learn, but they need a good, safe and open environment. From the moment our child set foot in this facility, they have loved him and have always given him the encouragement to move forward. Where do I begin about FPMS. I found this preschool through a early education school fair in La Canada when my oldest was around 2 years old. That was the most stressful time for me trying to find a good preschool with after school daycare as well considering I do not have any family close by. I definitely wanted my kids in a Montessori for their early education but the many Montessori schools I had toured throughout Pasadena left me with a frightening feeling that my child was walking into a rigid uncaring environment and the prices were over and above what we could afford. From the moment I stepped foot into that school for my first tour I new it was the school for my children. Yes it may not be the true and precise Montessori structure but the name of the school should give you a clue. It is Progressive in combines both Montessori teaching and structure with the balance of caring, support, fun and playtime that I believe all preschoolers should experience. Ms. Kanthi, Ms Chrissy, Ms Lou, Ms Fatima and the select few teachers that have come through to help with this amazing school gave both my boys now 8 and 6 years old the the core start of what has become an accelerated education for their ages. They still talk about their preschool today and miss there old teachers. Enrolling them into this preschool is a decision I will never ever regret and I thank the whole staff for caring and teaching my boys the utmost value of education, compassion, and togetherness a school should bring.
