Every first Sunday you can find some hidden gems at Alameda Flea. From DVD, VHS tapes, rustic…read morepaintings, clothing, rugs to beer steins - there is no shortage of items. However, the parking situation can be quite tedious when arriving after 10am. The entrance fee varies based on the time you come in, with the most expensive being when they open at 6am ($20). My family and I got there around 11am and it was a $10 entrance fee. They do allow re-entries so long as you get a handstamp before exiting. Today was my first time visiting and I was taken aback by how pricey a lot of items were - especially the clothing. Many were priced higher than new items. The food vendors present were underwhelming. We had Donna's Tamales and it was quite bland and overpriced. They charged me $18 for 2 corn chili tamales. My husband and I had hoped to find some items for our new spot, but left empty handed. Not sure I will be back for how marked up the items were.

Still some gems to be had, especially if you value old and well made vs new west elm, but I wouldn't say there were many steals (although always in the eye of the beholder).

I prefer items with character and a story, as opposed to an off the shelf, Pottery Barn-esque aesthetic. That doesn't mean I don't do "high/low"...I most definitely DO. But it's gotta be interesting and not matchy matchy. After searching for *months* for the right wall mirror to brighten my semi-dark bedroom, I found the perfect piece at Mignonne. But let's start by telling by the truth: I was lured into the store by the owner's beautiful dog, Sailor, who was sunning herself in her window perch on a recent Sunday. I just happened to have another errand on the same stretch of San Pablo Ave (the power of dogs!) Sailor is so sweet and welcoming...after she got me in, she literally followed me around the shop sniffing out the items that would look great in my place. EUREKA! We spotted a cool, vintage mirror in an interesting shape. However, I found the wood a little dark for my space. Not only did Johnelle negotiate a reasonable price on the piece, she worked with me on an interesting "whitewash" finish that changed the entire look by lightening up the wood. I could not be more thrilled with the finished product! The wood finish Johnelle chose maintained the integrity of the wood grain (even highlighted it) and lent the simple piece a truly one of a kind look. It's so cool that when another customer spotted them working on it, they offered to buy it on the spot (good thing I paid in full up front!) Beyond that, the people who own and work at Mignonne are so friendly, open and delightful to work with. Johnelle even invited me to a reception/party the following Sunday - so much fun. I will *definitely* continue to patronize Mignonne and can't wait to collaborate on our next project. Because that's what it is: a true collaboration. And nobody else will have the pieces you walk out of this lovely shop with!

I must confess that from the Pava Toner to the Soursop Vitamin C Serum and the Castaway Cream, I felt like I had just left an exclusive spa treatment. The whole place was clean and organized, and the shelves were stocked full of awesome and unique products on a Saturday morning. I picked up some laceys almond & dark chocolate toffee wafer cookies, sonoma creamery parmesan and cheddar crisps, and keogh's irish potato chips with real irish butter. And after browsing all of the easter-themed goodies, I couldn't resist getting a bag of kitkat bunnies as well. A worker saw my arms full and offered to get me a basket (he ran all the way to the front of the store and back). The care and effort shown was definitely appreciated. Customer service altogether was outstanding. I was greeted with a smile at entry, checked on multiple times by different employees while shopping, and my transaction at the purchase counter was quick and easy, with two employees opening up additional registers as they saw a line forming. I usually have a positive experience at World Market regardless of location, but based on my recent visit the Oakland store is superior in every way!

This place always surprises me with new stuff they have in store! Whether I'm looking for furnitures, snacks or new teas from around the world to try, this is the place to be! I was very surprised to find Hello Kitty and Friends, Sanrio and Gudetama here!! I'm super excited to add this to my list! One of my favorite things to find here are Bon- Bon candies, it reminds me of high school days where they did fundraisers every year! Super nostalgic! This location has been here since the late 1990s. This is one of my go-to places where I grab snacks for the movies around the corner. This place is a hidden gem!! Definitely will come back again!!

From the entrance to the back door, the space has been meticulously curated to be welcoming, refreshing, and a place of peace & refuge. I love the variety of foliage available, and was impressed by the education that the staff offered on each of the plants available for sale. One of my favorite aspects of this shop is the partnership with local businesses, where makers can display and sell their wares in a "pass through" fashion, with all proceeds going to the small business owners.
