I am SO happy to have found Clara. My husband and I recently moved from a small apartment in Brooklyn to a cottage in the Bay Area. We barely had any furniture and the thought of decorating all of this new-found space rendered me catatonic. I came home from work everyday totally frustrated and a bit guilty because I couldn't figure out how to decorate this place on my own. Clara came all the way to the foothills of Mt. Diablo for our consultation, where we talked about my design aesthetic, very small budget, and two cats who like to tear up rugs. This review is overdue, but now that my family and I have had time to live in our house with Clara's improvements, I appreciate even more her design and aesthetic. We bought a house 2 years ago in the Bay Area with some eclectic designs that we wanted to modernize / make more cohesive. In particular, we wanted help with furnishing, lighting, and some hardware for a large portion of the house, including a sizable addition. We were also on a fairly tight budget (since we had just bought a house in the Bay Area...). Clara's suggestions on painting and her sourcing all turned out beautiful and have greatly improved our space, both functionally and visually. The material for the rug and couch in the family area is durable and easy to clean spills (in 2 years there have been a lot), the artwork in the kid room is still adorable but not too childish and can stay for years to come, etc. --there was a lot of thought put into her work and it is much appreciated. I'll be the first to admit that I'm picky and cautious, so I very much appreciate her and her staff's patience and professionalism. Clara is amazing. We hired her to help us update our craftsman home which was built in 1906. We wanted to honor the character and beauty of the old home while modernizing and updating it to our much more contemporary tastes. She found ways to brighten up the extremely wood heavy interior and take a very dark gloomy room and update it into something modern, bright, and elegant without making us paint that gorgeous Douglas fir wood! We hired Clara to help with the renovation of our corporate headquarter in Berkeley when we first acquired the space. As a design studio, we had high expectations for the aesthetics of our new space, but at the same time, a relatively tight budget to work with. We are so lucky that she was willing to take on the project. Clara made the contracting process extremely easy- she was transparent about billing rates, scope and her fee structure, etc. and remained respectful of our budget limits. We never once felt pressured to spend more than what we had in mind. Throughout the project, Clara proved herself to be an excellent communicator, very reliable, and professional. These traits were especially important for a commercial project- Clara played a much bigger role than just being the interior designer. She was hands on with the project management, and also gave us sound advice when we needed to make some difficult decisions. The project got really stressful at one point when our architect went out of contact. When things were not happening on time, she was not afraid to step up and worked diplomatically with the contractor and architect to move the project along. Without her, our project would definitely have dragged on for another few months. More importantly, Clara made it a priority to always maintain clear lines of communication. I could always count on getting a response from her within 24- 48 hours. We were extremely happy with the outcome of the project- Clara truly has a creative mind and great eye for design. Our favorite piece ended up being a custom one that she designed for us and built by our own manufacturer. I was 9 months pregnant with our first baby, and on bed rest with a series of complications, when my husband learned that he would have to relocate from Southern California to Las Vegas for work. Barely able to get out of bed, I was in no state to coordinate a move, let alone furnish or organize a new home. Enter Clara and her amazing sense of order, style and economy. Clara has been an incredible asset to our home. When we first moved in and needed new furniture, but didn't want to make a big mistake, we called Clara. Not only did she help us furnish the living room with beautiful new and used pieces, she also gave us practical suggestions we wouldn't have come up with on our own, like "you know, changing the ceiling fan in this room to something more modern would go a long way." We asked Clara to come back for "phase 2" six months later to choose light fixtures, and again, she chose ones I wouldn't have come up with on my own and they look great. Clara was an integral part of my move into our new home. Prior to the move, she gave me lots of tips to stay organized and efficient on moving day. She suggested I number each room so the movers knew where the boxes were going, instead of dumping them all over the house. She also came and looked at our new place and gave me suggestions on how to maximize storage and also some decor ideas that are toddler & dog friendly. On moving day, she came armed with signs with the numbers assigned to each room. She also had a sign for the entry way that directed the movers in the direction of the numbered rooms. Even though our movers were 2 hours late, Clara stayed with us and unpacked my daughter's room. She went over furniture placement with us, unpacked her dresser (with drawer organizers that she bought) and made her bed and laid some toys out! A few days later, Clara came back armed with bags of goodies for me. She brought over baskets, bins, kitchen organizers and shelves. In this new house, I had to combine our linen closet, medicine cabinet and extra toiletries. I gave her all of the boxes that belonged in there and she made it pretty and organized for me. She grouped things together (dental, eye care, medicine, baby, etc ...) in the bins and even labeled them for me. On top of being so organized and neat, she's also great with her decor advice. She gave us lots of suggestions for new pieces of furniture, rugs, etc ... that she thought would work here. We exchanged many emails and she even helped us source some things. Thankfully she also talked us out of a lot of exiting trends. She really has her pulse on design. We LOVE the jute rug that she suggested for us and we are happy that we listened to her and got a coffee table. What I'm even more impressed by is that she was able to sway my husband on decor items, which is next to impossible. He's very opinionated about furniture and she made some suggestions that I never thought he'd go for and he did! It's hard to express just how happy we are with Banner Day's work in our home! Back-story: we live in a family-owned rental and have been on the fence for years about whether we should stay in our rental or try to buy our own place. She graciously dealt with my HGTV-loving husband who, at times, can be quite . . . opinionated about looks he likes and dislikes. Earlier this year, my husband and I moved from an apartment into our first home. When we bought our house, it was essentially a sterile white box, and we needed to furnish the whole place. Clara is terrific. She worked with us remotely but was so responsive to all my questions and concerns. I can't stress enough how much of a difference it makes when I'm working with a contractor, we encounter an unforeseen issue, I email her with an urgent question, and she replies right away.
