I had just graduated from a top business school and had a strong offer from a Fortune 100 company that I accepted. Externally, it looked like I was finally starting to flourish. Internally, however, my life felt like more of a mess than it had ever been. I was struggling with my weight, I didn't feel fulfilled by the work I was doing, I kept attracting the same types of people into relationships (read: people who weren't ready for relationships), and most significantly, I didn't feel truly happy. As a guy, sometimes it's hard to have these types of conversations with your friends and family. My dad was raised as a very "macho" southerner, who repeatedly told me how good I had it, despite my attempts to tell him otherwise. Any time I tried to explain how I felt, he simply reminded me that life isn't always fun and games, and that the point of life isn't to be happy. My friends on the other hand were simply in awe of the fact that I landed such a strong job offer. In their eyes, the only change in my life was that I was now slated to earn a lot more money. I mean... what more could you possibly want? If I tried to tell them I felt otherwise, I'd typically receive a response along the lines of "stop being a b****".
It took a fair amount of resolve on my end, but I refused to believe my friends and family. In my core, I knew that everyday happiness was possible. More importantly, I knew that it was something that I wanted in my life. I made the decision that this was something I was going to work towards. As if the universe decided it was on board with this decision, a friend suggested that I look into coaching that same day, specifically recommending Megan (recommending is the understatement of the year - they basically told me that I was an idiot if I didn't immediately make the decision to work with her).
Megan congratulated me on the progress I had already made and explained to me that happiness and success is indeed a CHOICE. Over the past two years, she has helped me rework my thought patterns, develop more positive habits, take daily action towards my goals, hold myself accountable, create more inspiring relationships, upgrade my living environment, launch my business, and be more efficient with my time.
All of those things sound like claims you'd hear on a late-night infomercial with Tony Horton and Billy Mays, so let me highlight more tangibly the changes that I credit Megan with bringing into my life:
-I am engaged to the most beautiful person, inside and out, that I've ever met in my life. She's as crazy about me as I am about her
-I am earning six figures and have been promoted twice in the past year, and am in a role that I find much more challenging and exciting
-I have teammates at work that I consider friends and really enjoy working with
-I lost over 50 lbs and am in the best shape that I've been in since I was in college (nearly a decade ago)
-I launched my first business earlier this year and have already fully recouped my investment. I find the work extremely fulfilling and have already dramatically changed some of my clients' lives
-I only spend time with friends, new and old, who are a constant source of laughter, positivity, and inspiration
-I live in a gorgeous new apartment with my fiancee
-I have a new car that I love
-I am planning my dream wedding with my fiancee, a small destination wedding with our closest friends and family, ignoring the social pressure to have a giant soiree in San Diego
-And lastly, I wake up daily feeling THRILLED to start the day. I am SO HAPPY and grateful, and feel deeply fulfilled by the work that I am doing
Working with Megan changed my life. To be fully transparent, working with her is a significant investment. But as the old Warren Buffet saying goes, "the best investment you can make is in yourself."
