I requested a trial with the understanding that she was available to do my makeup for the date of my wedding. She checked her calendar and assured me she was available. I live in another state, so this was my one day in Stroudsburg to do my trial. Literally less than a week later (after I've flown home and cannot do a trial with anyone else) she cancels on me to say she is flying to Aruba! You didn't know you were flying to Aruba 6 days ago!?! You just did my trial to take $85 of my money!! Now, when I call her, it goes straight to voicemail. But her cancellation text said, "Don't worry I have a friend who can take you." Yeah, that friend (Tara Matos) charges over $200!! Also, that friend tried to pawn me off on another stylist the first time I spoke to her. No, thank you. As to her skill, Monica has good technique, but she is obviously a one trick pony. Just check her Instagram. No regard for peoples varying facial features or levels of glam. Huge false strip lashes on everyone (that started coming off on me at the inner corners within an hour). Avoid this makeup artist at all costs!!

With a future Tribeca appointment already booked, I stopped into Warwick's Soho Salon for a wash/blowdry. I was greeted so warmly by Joanne at the front desk and my hair looked so great just from a wash/dry, I canceled my city appointment and booked my cut at Soho. I see Caitlin for cut/color, Caitlin and Diana have both done wash/blowdry, and Talia's shampoo and scalp massage is excellent. Everyone at Soho is so consultative, friendly, and professional. Caitlin and Diana are true artists... I don't mean that as hyperbole, Caitlin is a fine artist and her eye for detail and color is superior. Diana's "day job" is doing hair for award-winning tv shows (she is very discreet but I believe she, too, has won awards for her work). Each appointment I'm impressed and inspired by the work I see other stylists doing -- all ages, all styles are represented in Soho's clientele. One thing I hate at salons is being pressured into buying product and I also hate when a stylist doesn't respect how I want to wear my hair and insists on adding waves, hairspray, etc. Soho stylists always ask how *I* would like to look/feel and what products I would like to use, while also being consultative and sharing their expertise. When I've been curious about a new product, they've offered to let me try it in my hair without pushing for a sale and - because the focus is on making sure I'm happy with how my hair looks/feels, when I ask for product advice I end up with someone that is right for my hair type and how I style my hair at home.
