I wish I could give negative stars. We were verbally harassed and abused by a bus driver named Barbara going from State College to NYC. I have never in my life experienced a person as hateful and berating as her. She made it her mission to project her bad attitude onto everyone on the bus by screaming demeaning comments and bullying patrons for simply trying to board the bus. It is genuinely scary that someone with her temperament is allowed to drive a bus full of people. She in no way is a qualified person to be handling people's lives. I have rode the Megabus many, many times, I'm not new to the guidelines. She decided that she had a different set of rules and violently screamed at everyone for not following them precisely- resulting in her kicking 2 of us off the bus. Mind you, we were quietly seated, the entire bus had boarded and no one stalled the process, THEN she came to our seats and started to yell that we had to leave the bus. We were obviously confused because we showed our tickets, put our luggage on without a word from her. We immediately apologized for not being aware of her rules many times, still insisted we were not allowed to ride. She stalled the bus for over an hour, left patrons on the bus in the hot sun with no air, shut me in the bus door and continually refused to explain any of her decisions/actions. She refused to contact her management to back up her actions and continued to harass us which resulted in her calling the police. The police even know this woman because it's not her first time behaving this way! I'm genuinely writing this to warn people about how terrifying this was. It was honestly traumatic and I've never seen an adult conduct themselves that way. And on top of that, the company itself doesn't take any responsibility or try to protect customers. You have to be extremely careful while booking your tickets with Megabus. I had mistakenly booked a ticket for night bus for previous night and immediately called them up to change it to next day and even then they had the same policy of trade in tickets. The next day ticket price was $10 less but they are charging me $6 on top of my current ticket in the name of booking and transfer fee and they have not mentioned anywhere that this remaining credit cannot be used for these fees which is so annoying. They have just made policies which extort money from customers. read more

I had a good experience going from state College to Pittsburgh. The only problem I had was that the bus didn't stop at the airport so I had to pay $40 more for an Uber from the megabus drop off point to the airport. Words cannot describe how awful of an experience this was. The bus was dirty; crumbs and wrappers all over the seats, floor and table. The driver did not put our luggage in the bus, which i didn't even care about. It was his horrible, dangerous reckless driving that did it. So bad we got a flat tire on the middle of the highway. When we asked questions like how long it would be, he simply laughed. He then made a joke about how we needed to move to the other side of the bus, because if a bus hit us "we'd all be goners". And to top it all off, an hour into the ride he stopped at an unscheduled rest stop to wake riders up that were sleeping, telling them they weren't allowed to do so (all of which i completely forgot about due to the fact that we are stranded on the highway at midnight). Rode from State College to NYC. Ride was suppose to be there at 3:00 pm, but didn't get there until around 4:00 pm! I expected a bit of a delay, but an hour is outrageous...! Some sort of communication or at least a simple apology from the driver would have been nice (I know it probably wasn't the driver's fault, but they are working for Megabus soooo). Also, driver said, "There's WIFI on here, but if it's not working then I can't do anything about it. You will just have to call customer service." I feel like they advertise WIFI, but don't actually have it. There was no WIFI on my Megabus trip back from NYC to State College either. Overall, probably will never use this service again. Drivers aren't very friendly and the round trip was ~$100. So, it's cheap, but I don't know if the service is worth it. read more

This is an email she sent today: Mega Bus Complaint: Driver Barbara Miller State College PA to Philadelphia PA Reservation # 35-3780-110314-M29-0950-STA-PHI Date 11/3/14 Time 9:50am To whom it may concern: I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the driver of the Mega Bus that I had the above reservation for. I found out later that her name was Barbara Miller. This was the first and last time I will use the Mega-Bus for no other reason but because of the unbelievably rude way that she treated me. I traveled from Philadelphia 30th Street to State College, PA on 11/1/14 with a return trip back on 11/3/14 from State College, PA. Let me say the trip to State College was very enjoyable. I called a taxi to get me to the Walmart parking lot where the bus was to leave 1 hour prior which was at 8:50am. The taxi took a while to get there as they said they were very busy and got me there at 9:47am. Someone flagged the taxi so I got out with the Mega bus in sight and by the time I got to the Mega-bus the driver, Barbara Miller started the engine. She did not leave the spot yet, opened her side window and I had a small bag that did not even have to be checked in back and my ticket in my hand. The driver asked me "Do you know what time it is?" I said yes it is 9:50am the taxi was late. She said the bus leaves at 9:50am. She advised she is not letting me on the bus because I was not there 15 minutes early. I proceeded to apologize but advised I am not late I am on time and I could not control the taxi and traffic. I told her I live in Philadelphia and I have no way of getting home. She told me very rudely "that is not my problem, that is your problem" and drove away very fast leaving me in the middle of the parking lot with no way to get home to Philadelphia! I have never in life been treated so badly. I was very scared as I had no way of getting home, very little cash, and no one to turn to as I only knew my daughter who is a student at Penn State and was in classes all day. I had to stay around for 8 hours to book the next Mega-Bus and was told when I called I have to PAY for the first bus that she would not LET me on, and I now have to pay for the second bus I needed to wait 8 hours to take at 5:30pm that night, which did not get me home until 10:30pm. I feel that this driver should be reprimanded as she left me in a potential dangerous situation with no way home. I paid for a service, was on time for the service and NOT late, just because the taxi did not get me there 15 minutes early I was scolded like a child and left in a parking lot. If I did not have a little bit of cash left in my wallet to get 2 more taxi's I do not know what I would have done. Every person I have told this story too, including the driver I had at 5:30pm that night said that was totally unacceptable. He even knew who I was talking about because he said that is not the first time he has heard complaints about this driver. Also, that driver was very nice. I would like to hear back from a supervisor or manager regarding this driver, I am outraged at such behavior and feel as though this driver should be reprimanded. She is representing your company, and trust me she is bringing your company down. Because of her and only her, I would not recommend Mega-Bus to anyone I know, nor will I ever use Mega-Bus again. Rode the Mega bus from state college to nyc and back on May 13th 2019. When we arrived at state college to board the bus no one was outside, but there were people already on the bus, so we got on the bus thinking this is what you're suppose to do. This was our first time riding. When we got on the bus, the driver immediately YELLED at us instead of just calmly asking us to wait outside or explaining to us what to do. After yelling at us, he then followed us back outside and yelled at us again! VERY unprofessional. We had the same driver coming back from nyc to state college when I witness him yell at other people like he did to me. Would not recommend Mega Bus to a friend. Only good thing about it is it was on time and got me to where I needed to be. read more

My bus was supposed to from depart State College to Pittsburgh at 7:40pm. The bus didn't leave until almost 10pm. There was a delay. When the bus finally arrived and we were all ready go, there was some "suspension" where one side of the bus was higher than the other. They failed to announce that. In addition, they failed to email us about the delay until 8:30pm there about. When I called customer service the person on the phone was very rude and obnoxious. By the time I got to Pittsburgh the city buses were no longer running. So I have to find money to take a Lyft. They offered "compensation" which was a $15 dollar redemption code. The problem is the code expires the following day. I'm very disappointed in Megabus. read more

The reason I am giving Megabus a low score is their non-flexible attitude and rules that fluctuate based on the driver of the bus. My niece was traveling to NYC and the bus driver would not let her on the bus without an ID. 2 weeks before this trip, she went without being asked for it . She is 17, the minimum age required to ride alone, but the driver refused to believe her, we forfeited 200.00 in tickets! I called customer service but they just backed up driver. There is no mention of ID requirements on their website under terms and conditions. Only 17 and above. read more

I am on a Megabus trip right now, trying to get from NYC to Pittsburgh. There hasn't been wifi available for over 6 hours. Each time the recorded welcome comes on, it's ironic to hear the actor pretending to be helpful and care about your comfort. I have never, in fact, had wireless service work on a Megabus trip. I keep asking costumer service before I book each trip, and they say the next bus will certainly have a working internet connection. Guess this is the last time I'll take Megabus. read more

Never. Again. 1) Bathroom was as bad as the worst porto-potty. Hold your breath almost vomit bad. 2) Rainy day when bus departed 1st row got a shower from leak. drip the entire way. Bus driver (who was nice) explained it would be 4 hours 4 a new bus so deal with leak. 3) Hole in front row upper deck dashboard swallowed a notebook after a sudden brake. Megabus employee in NYC said I had to go to Elizabeth NJ (@ 11 pm Friday night after 5 hour ride from State College) to retrieve. Then he openly snickered at me for being so stupid as to put a notebook on the dashboard. I left them my contact info. No response. Called their List and Found and incredibly!! got a response that they were unable to locate it. Missed a bus once but there's always one the next morning. I consistently use the megabus from NYC to Pittsburgh. If saves a couple hundred dollars with some flight. Never had a problem personally. The NYC and Pittsburgh buses seem to always be on time. If you want to choose an economical way to travel without the stress of having to make the drive yourself. If you include the tolls you're saving you rely cannot go wrong. Drivers are always polite and I've never had a problem. Highly recommended if you don't want to pay for airfare. Wifi included so you can get tons of work done during the 8 hour trip from NYC to Pittsburgh. read more

My son was traveling from Miami to Orlando when the bus had an accident. We tried calling the customer service line to know what should my son do (wait for another bus, etc). Unfortunately the customer service representative and his supervisor, besides being completely unprepared on how to react to such a situation, hung up on my call. My son was not hurt but , being in the middle of nowhere without information on what to expect was stressful enough, and the minimum Megabus should have done is threat its customers with respect and urgency. Long review, but must read. Me and my friend had a reservation for a trip from Philadelphia to State College. The bus was supposed to depart at 11:50 am and since while booking, Megabus recommended reaching in advance, we were at the stop at 11:30 am and the bus arrived at 1:00 pm. We stood in a terrible snowstorm at the bus stop for an hour and a half and Megabus did not care to inform us what was happening. There were many Megabus employees and none of them knew anything about the bus to State College. Not just that, they were being very rude and refused to contact other Megabus employees to find the status of the bus since we were trying to call on the Megabus customer care and nobody was picking up. One of the Megabus guys putting luggage in a bus to New York told me that the State College bus should be here in a minute, and this was at 12:20 pm. I was having frost bite on my feet and the Megabus guys were rude enough that they would not let me in the bus even for a few minutes. Even when the bus came at 1:00 pm, it was a terrible quality one and the driver did not let us on to it until some Megabus employee came and checked our tickets. Seriously man, who would stand in that cold for 90 minutes if one hadn't bought a ticket and really needed to get to State College?!? Not just that, the employee who was supposed to "dispatch" us was right there, sending off other buses to their destinations, he was the same guy who earlier rudely told me that he has no idea about the State College bus and he was walking easy and slow from one end of the bus stop to this bus as if we were not late at all and it was a nice summer afternoon. When one of my co-passengers could reach them by call, they told her to call again after 10 minutes if the bus did not reach, and they asked her to wait more when she called after 10 minutes. Not just that, they started their response by saying that there is no Megabus journey from Philadelphia to State College for this date. It is not bad enough that Megabus does not have stations for people to wait, they delay their trips at their choice and do not care to inform the passengers. However terrible their programmers be, I am sure they have a list of all emails that have ever made a reservation, even if they send a notification of delay to all of them, it will keep the concerned informed and the rest can just ignore the email! read more

Tried to get a bus from State College to Harrisburg and the bus never showed up. We waited an hour or so before calling customer service to try and get an update. Got hung up on by customer service 5 times in a row. One of them even pretended to not be able to hear me anymore before hanging up. Do NOT trust this service. read more

Megabus lost a customer today, I have traveled with them several times in the past without incident, however, today is the last time I will deal with them. I took the Megabus from NYC several weeks ago, with two saxophone cases, two backpacks. And a folding dolly. As I had more than the allowed amount of luggage, I had to buy an extra ticket to allow for the luggage I brought. Fair enough, I had no problem with that. However, today, when I showed up with the exact same luggage to board the bus in Pittsburgh to go back to New York City, I was informed they wouldn't take me for the two tickets I had bought already- insisting on me buying 3 more tickets, for a total of 5 tickets (at a total cost of $150). They need to get their luggage policy to be uniform, I won't be using their buses again after this incident- a rental car would be cheaper and more convenient! read more

Well. What can I say? Wish I could give it -1 stars. The price isn't THAT cheap, and is disproportionate to its service. Not only are the drivers rude, but the company enforces a ridiculous and pointless policy where you cannot change a reservation unless it is at a certain location or 24 hours in advance if not. I was standing outside an earlier Megabus, the 2pm in State College, PA, when my ticket was for the 7 pm bus. I asked the driver kindly if he could take my friend and I on this bus instead. It was POURING RAIN. he shouted an abrupt NO WAY! At us, two young girls with no umbrellas, luggage all wet, and did not suggest to help in any way. This is a bus service that acts as if it is an airline. Your bus ride should be simple and easy. It is not rocket science. Unless the company changes its draconian policies to one that is more suitable for a casual bus line, megabus, I'm not riding you AGAIN. read more

Great service, assuming of course that: a. the bus arrives at all and isn't late, b. the bus departs at anytime before an hour after it was scheduled to, c. you are traveling completely free of luggage and d. there are no other passengers on the bus. If so, you'll love the ride! Just kidding, it'll still be miserable, but at least you were one of the fortunate ones that the kind and gracious Megabus gods decided not to legally steal from (Hint*: no refunds means that they can basically not provide you with any service if they felt like it and there would be no way to hold them accountable). Hopefully you don't suffer the double whammy of trying to catch a flight, because chances are you'll lose hundreds (possibly thousands of dollars if you're an international student) in the missed flight ticket as well! I've heard the horror stories about the breakdowns, rude drivers, and broken wifi. However, in my one experience with Megabus, I had a good experience. I booked my trip home from NYC within a few hours of the departure. I ended up paying for the extra luggage which was $25. Not bad. The buses have outlets at every seat so you can charge your electronics. The driver makes a pit stop at a truck stop so you can stretch your legs. I got from Manhattan to State College in less than 5 hours. It was cheaper than driving, flying, or the train. read more

My cousin and I used the mega bus for our trip to NYC from State College. Coming back today was an absolute disaster. The bus was over an hour late due to "electrical issues" annoying enough but add pouring down rain on top of that. We had an umbrella but we were still drenched as there are no shelters or benches at the pick up station. When the bus finally arrived an HOUR later there was no organization as to how luggage or boarding was handled. When we got to State College the driver was very rude informing everyone "if we reach for our luggage it will be dropped to the ground." I can see why they would not want you to reach for a hard suitcase with feet on the bottom but; I packed a fabric duffel bag (which water can soak through) instead of being handed to me it was tossed to the ground in the water. They have no respect for their customers or their belongings and quite frankly I am surprised we made it home alive. I will not be a repeat customer. read more
