I went to Mega for one summer during high school for SAT prep. I didn't get anything out of it. My score was hovering at 1900, but my parents and I wanted me to break 2000 especially since I was taking the PSAT in the fall. After taking the diagnostic, they realized that I only needed improvement in reading comprehension and writing. So they allowed us to not to pay for the full tutoring session. Despite that, I had no improvement. The homework is like any standard packet. What I needed was someone to teach me techniques. Luckily a guidance counselor (I went to BxSci) recommended another prep school to me (my PSAT score was a 190 so no improvement). That helped me get over a 2100 on the SAT. I suggest that parents looking for good prep courses do some research on the schools they pick. Don't look at just the numbers, but the teachers as well. It can make a really big difference. read more

I took MEGA academy for the fall 2024-2025 for SHSAT prep, and I managed to get into Bronx Science! Only issue is, they're kinda brutal with curving and they push you a lot, but it's all worth it! read more

I felt compelled to write a review about this establishment because it's probably still scamming Asian parents out of their hard earned money. Mega Academy is the pinnacle of a money grab, experts at swindling money from parents trying to build a better figure for their children. Inherently, there's nothing wrong with prep school, but Mega Academy is notoriously known for being one of the most expensive in Flushing, when there's truly no justification for it. The premium you pay for this school comes with below average to mediocre teachers, practice exams/homework photocopied from books you can buy on eBay, and quite frankly an elitist attitude from management. I will never forget the time one of the owners brought in a former mega student and TA, boasting about how he managed to get a job at UBS, as some sort of motivation to high school kids who didn't even know what a derivative or M&A was. I managed to sink hours of my life into this place, learning little to nothing. My parent's wages were spent on photocopied homework that was reviewed the next day by your average DOE high school teacher who might've been your math teacher a few weeks prior. No, your premium doesn't pay for the cream of the crop. It pays for the house and cars of the owners. Rest assured any success I have experienced post-college will never be attributed to Mega Academy. Maybe the best thing to come out of this place were the friends I made, but if I just wanted my kids to socialize, I would've sent them anywhere else. read more

Do not send your child to this school. I am serious and I hope you are serious too when considering sending your child to this school. As some people mentioned here, the school's response to the refund request due to COVID-19 is slow and unfair. They only offer $200 credit for the spring classes missed which is much below the amount paid. For summer and fall classes I paid and my child did not take a single one, they only agreed to pay 85%. I contacted the school and the person I talked to was very rude. She told me I could only get 100% Credit to use, not 100% refund. But read the comments people have for the school. All the study materials they provided are loose leaves with problems they copied from other books and websites. I don't want to continue with them. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. BBB contacted them at least three times and they never responded. Then I filed a complaint with Small Claims Court in October. I contacted the court and was told the school didn't respond as of today. I have to say this school has no moral. All they care about is money. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL. read more

Mega academy was a waste of money. My mom sent me here hoping I would learn. But, boy was she wrong about this place. I did not learn a thing from mega academy". The kids here were bad. Only thing I learned here was how to cut class. You can walk out whenever you want. The people here don't care. As long as your parents paid. That's all they care about. I attended mega many years ago and here is my experience. Mega academy had unqualified "teachers". I wouldn't even call them "teachers". People who were teaching there were teenagers. Whole place was ran by teenagers in my point of view. Never seen an adult whole time I attended mega academy. The classes were out Of control. The people who taught classes just let the class go wild while they were "trying to teach". I literally learned nothing here... can't even think of a thing I learned here besides cutting class because it was so easy to walk out. For the amount of money paid here you shouldn't let your students leave unless it's an emergency. read more

Not a responsible prep school! Since the quarantine due to COVID-19, no one answer the phone call. No one notifies us if they will be holding online classes or future planning for the unfinished classes. Leaving everyone in dark. They posted on their school website that starting from April 4, there will be a "remote learning system", other Than a few pages random maths sheet, it's nothing! It's a shame for an educator to handle a situation like this. If they can just let us know we can get our refund or course credit, we can at least planing accordingly. It has been 6 weeks!!! How long you expect the students to wait?? Unbelievable! read more

Mega sucks. The teachers talk about off-topic things like cutting water. They won't refund your money, and some teachers are overly strict. Please don't go here. read more

Too expensive, not that good either, and you get hours of boredom, little freedom, you get to sit in cramped classes and hard metal chairs. The people that say this place has little explanation like little paragraphs, the most is like three short paragraphs and the other people who I agree to write so much. I don't care much about the grades here anyways. Once there was a male math teacher who was talking about drugs like drugs, he asked us where do we get most of our drugs, well we obviously don't know where we get them cause we are kids, then he said, you get them in Colombia. He also asked us what measuring unit do we use to measure drugs, and again we don't know, he said you measure them in kilograms....... Like BRUH how is this relating to math. This is why I don't like this place. The teachers there likes to scream at kids for no good reason, and you get so much stupid homework it's not even funny, I went for one semester and I feel like killing myself, and what your reading right here is written on the last day of me In mega academy, I am so happy 12/14/19 You should tell your parents reasons why you shouldn't go to mega If they tell you that you should go here for good grades. read more

Waaaaaay too overpriced for what it is. I've gone to Mega for a few years back in my golden HS years. Went for 2 summers + 1 fall for the SHSAT prep class and 1 semester for biology *ashamed* The good: I passed the SHSAT & got into Stuy, where I nearly failed Bio and had to come back to Mega. I subsequently passed Bio as a result. The teachers are mostly teachers from good public schools in NYC, I had a math teacher from Cardozo and an English teacher (Mrs. Quinlan!!) (formally) from Stuy. The bad: $1G+ per session. This includes sitting in hard metal chairs in a small room for hours a day, doing hw/taking exams from photocopied books that they've had in their archives forever. You can bet they are making baaaaank from overcharging their clients! read more

My dad heard about Mega from a friend of his, who makes his son and daughter attend every summer. To this day, I don't have problems with getting good grades or behaving properly, but my dad was utterly convinced that Mega would somehow help me get into an Ivy League school, although I personally dislike the idea of Ivy Leagues. He is bent on pursuing the prestige attached to the names. My SAT score was about 2000, but my dad wanted me to retake it to score even higher. Lo and behold, Mega was his answer. Anyway, my sister and I were signed up for general Math and English courses, even though neither of us were bad students. It was mostly Asians in my small, cramped classroom. The teachers were okay, but didn't seem any better than the ones I have without dishing out a $1200 + fee. What I loathed about Mega was how arrogant everyone there seemed and the arbitrary grading system. We got tons of homework every day / week, which sucks because you could get the questions off of any generic workbook for much cheaper. Everyone makes you feel bad for getting a grade-any grade-whether it is your teacher or your classmates or the TAs or your parents. My little sister came home with me on multiple occasions in tears because she was relentlessly bullied for scoring an 87 on a math assignment. It didn't matter whether it was better or worse than what other people got, you were always ridiculed for it. They were either jealous of a good grade or proud to rub it in your face that they got a better one. Everyone compares scores when they are returned and if you refuse to show them, you are accused of being stupid and are called derogatory nicknames. Mega does little to quell this hostile environment, passing it off as just kids being competitive or ignoring it altogether. Whenever you have a homework grade, you have a report card that needs to be taken home and signed by your parents so they too can see how you're doing. Asian parents tend to always demand that you work harder and will compare you to others...Every moment spent in and out of Mega was like pure torture. In the end, my grade didn't improve much. I feel like Mega is a huge waste of time and money, but a great way to ruin your children's self esteem. read more

Mega is 101% worse then lehman highschool and they say you gonna go to a special highschool if you go here. i got stabbed in the leg with a pencil by some kid that was in my class my leg bloody ass hell and they didnt do shit about it. and if you a parent reading this your definitely gonna beat the shit out of your child once you find out he missed a couple homeworks or got a bad grade. because no matter what when i do the home work and still get decent grades they still send messages to my parents about me not doing my homework. also you pay too much for what you get. i do better off watching a youtube video for free then sitting in a class for 3 hours daily, and thats actully true. i came here every year ever since 4th grade and i have not used any of the things they tought me, and i still get around 80-95 on my grades. that just says how useless this place is. at one point it traumatized me because of the amount of shit they was giving me. id rather work at mcdonalds daily then be at mega. Not even that 1 star, this place is so fucking shit and gave me brain damage to a point where all the people who worked there can fucking kill themselves. All the people there were so rude, they fucking scammed my parents during the pandemic, we called them for a refund for the classes I didn't go to because of Covid and that fucking Amy lady hung up and was like "sorry we can't give u the money back". Bro those classrooms look like a whole ass prison. Bro it had pink or green walls with like chairs that looked like execution chairs. read more

No too overpriced gives like 40 pages of hw for each class and thinks our only school is this place like we have ACTUAL on the weekdays and more hw the teachers here barely teach and some r rude I come home crying every day because my parents yell at me for not paying attention but the teachers were j on their phones all the time we r not allowed t go to the bathroom there or even eat chips in the classroom. we had to physically go outside because the ta was too scared of the mess and even more, it brought my actual school grades down because I had to focus on mega hw or if I don't finish it they call home Would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Since the COVID 19 Mega never let us know what's their plan how to teach the kids. This is terrible after getting our money. All they do is give the students classwork every two weeks without explanations. How will the children learn from it?? Mega is very irresponsible. Return back the money if you can't provide any education to our children. We work very hard for this money to give our children a better education. read more

This place gets the job done! My son attended Mega Academy the Summer before his 8th grade year of middle school. Went there over 10 years ago. I was struggling in math A. And they put me in math B. Why would you put me in a more advanced math if I'm struggling in my current math. I explained to them this and that I wanted to get out of math B but they explained if i learned math B now I would do good in school next year. Well I failed math A in school and was completely lost in math B tutoring at mega. They would call your house if you didn't do the h.w they assigned you. Felt bad I wasted my parents money, but honestly i didn't think the money was worth it. It would be better hiring a older college student to tutor your kid and to sit down and break things down for the student and let people learn at their own pace instead 1 teacher trying to explain something to 10-20 kids on a white board. read more

I came here for several summers. The place consists of two floors.

This place was the worst! The place is so expensive! When I go there and is a few minutes late they yell and subtract points from your homework. And when Asian parents see your report card and see scores lower than a 90 they yell and make you study even more and not let you relax. And if you have writing and you want to buy pizza it is 2.50 other than 1.00! And in the summer pizza is 2.75! And the fee is 1,000-3,000 dollars! read more

Overpriced, it's basically a room where students are cramped on cheap desks and handed out packets. From my experience there, the math "teacher" does not in the slightest teach. We do the questions, he gives the answers. No explanation, and when he was asked to explain the answer, his response was so vague, it made the entire class more confused. For English, the "teacher" wastes time talking about irrelevant information. One second, we are reading, then the next second, we are talking about aristocrats and Victorian age. Highly don't recommend. read more

There's only 1-2 good ones. The rest are just frauds or book readers who charge you $7,000 for tutoring prep, but all they do is read the book out loud to class. What a scam. read more

Sucks. WHOLE EXPERIENCE SUCKED!! If you are a parent thinking of sending your child to this place, please second think!! Although the location of Mega is decent and convenient, their teachers pay no respect to students. My friend's child said that they won't really pay attention to kids with lower grades. They told kids with higher grades to not talk to "Those kids" like what do you mean? Discrimination at these ages? They really need to improve their attitudes before setting foot into teaching! My own child was thrilled to attend this school with her friends, until when she came back from the first day, she came home crying to me saying that the teachers mad her feel dumb. What? I am extremely disappointed especially at the price they are charging, really disapointed read more

Mega Academy is a waste of money - asian parents be warned! They hire less than qualified teachers who have no say in the homework assignments that they pass out. Many of the teachers, as consequence, are very unprepared when students ask to go over tests/homework. They advertise heavily in the Chinese community, boasting that they can send your kids to some of the top HS/colleges but this is not true. As someone who was a student (Mom forced me to go for 4 years), who attended Stuyvesant HS, and who eventually attended NYU-Stern, I honestly believe that I would have gotten into all of these schools WITHOUT the help of Mega. When I was a student there, Mega would literally (and illegally) photocopy Kaplan test review books and white-out the "Kaplan" logo out. They would pass these review book pages out claiming that they are Mega-created homeworks/tests. If you want to study for the SHSAT or the SAT, buy a Kaplan or Barrons book. Mega uses the same material anyways and it's a lot cheaper than the overpriced tuition. read more

Very good prep school. I sent my daughter here for shsat prep. She resented me for sending her to summer classes every day. But she was also glad to have made so many new friends. She struggled a bit in English and Math but she said the extra tutoring really helped. She was always very eager to show me her report card every week to show me her improvements. This past Fall, she took the shsat test and got accepted into Bronx science. I asked if she wanted to take a break from Mega but she said she wanted to continue going to mega. I don't mind the pricing as long as my child continues to put the effort into her studies. read more

1 review rating because of how these people only cared for the money + the explaining after. when i gone to mega academy (3 years ago) the assignments/homeworks + teachers were quite horrible and selfless. awhile back when i was in math class, this teacher humiliated me in front of everyone saying that, "you should be working, not staring at the clock", he then laughed, which made everyone laughed at me. i was staring at the clock just so i can get this class over with, at that time, i was shy and scared because of how the work was hard and how easily stressed i was. i even pretended that i had a bad stomach ache just so i can complain to my parents about how bad the environment was in there, but they didn't listen to me and carried on. please don't go to this academy, they will literally scam you and would put lots of pressure onto your child, which makes your child to have low self esteem. learning is suppose to be fun and educating, not being careless and boring. also, they send me a letter once a year just to see if i'll go to that stupid academy, i'm like, "no, y'all can't play me", i would tear it apart and throw it in front of their entrance, that's how pissed i am at this academy. i have a lot more experience in that academy but let me not, i'm lazy to write another paragraph. read more

To begin, I am not a student but a parent. My son has been taking the SHSAT prep course since January. Mega Academy has managed to lower my son's self esteem, his confidence towards his school work, and his emotional well being. What I hate about Mega Academy is their grading system with the report card reminding your child how smart or stupid he or she is , the difficult homework assignments with minimal instructions from the teachers, and the frustration that comes in helping your child every evening with the homework. I regret sending my child to this expensive ($1200 plus) prep program. Do yourself a favor and not waste your money. Mega Academy is all about making money off your kid and could care less about their well being. Also, their claim of having an outstanding admissions rate to the specialized high schools or Ivy League colleges is suspect. They will always tell you how many were accepted but what about all the other kids that didn't get accepted. They are really quiet when that question is asked. read more

Today, I call to complain that a teacher has no right to kick out a minor out of the classroom because the minor has every right to be there. I wanted to talk to the teacher and explain that something could have happen to the minor and that they would be reliable. Instead of a compromise, I got yelled at and the lady on the phone hung up on me. I have no respect for mega and they don't care about their students. Don't send your child to a place where your child's rights to be in the class are violated. Go to Elite or ABC Math, where your child's safety and education matters. read more

I wish I could give this place no stars. My daughter went to ask about SAT classes as a sophomore not only are they so expensive but they were very rude. They didn't even let my daughter take SAT classes just because she was a sophomore! She just wanted a head start on SATs is that so wrong?!?! And there's more....the lady started promoting other courses that my daughter already took since she was in a scholars program in middle school then my daughter tells her she already took those classes. This woman has the AUDACITY to say "No way you could have taken those classes" just because my daughter decided to go to a zoned school rather than a specialized school in Brooklyn because the zoned school is closer. This woman was so rude. They are not only charging so much but they also insulted my daughters intelligence. In that moment I just walked out. Never have I ever met someone so rude. read more

The English is terrible in my opinion. The packets given for English are extremely easy or extremely obscure and vague. I really wish they would do more reading in English. Its more of a grammar class, but the problem is learning how to write properly won't make you write properly. You actually must practice writing properly which I think they could do a better job at it. read more

This academy is a rip off, like seriously after the end of a semester they give you this test. Parents believe that if your child does bad on it they go to a bad class, however thats not true. The test includes questions that are 2 grades above us so everyone did bad on it. There parents would get mad and blame there child and waste even more money. By the way the homework they give is so hard 3/4 of the questions are ones we didn't learned even learned in class!. So how do our parents expect us to get good grades there basically wasting there money on this rip off program. Please rethink this before sending you child to this program. read more

So I have been going to Mega Academy since like 3rd grade. I just finished Sophomore year in high school. The SHSAT prep was good as I got a 577 on the SHSAT, not great but hey I got into the school I wanted to go in. This summer, I'm gonna take the SAT prep, which I hope will help because I got a summer job and I had to refuse it (my parents forced me) in order to go to Mega. A great part of Mega is probably the teachers, most of them are great teachers, they are really knowledgeable. Another thing is that they give homework, like a lot, which helps, but I really hate homework so I do it like the day before, on the subway, or copy a friend. Now the bad things. First things first, the seats are like really f**king sh***y, like hard metal chairs with a desk so small you could fit like a sheet of paper. This is what you pay for like a grand per course! Another thing is that usually during the summer except for SAT and SHSAT prep, you forget everything. Last summer, I took Algebra II/ Trig, and when halfway through the school year, you forget everything you learned. So except the SHSAT and SAT prep, you'll forget everything else. Overall, I think it fine but I dunno my math grade in Algebra 2 is a 68 so consider before you go on a spending spree. read more

This is probably the best school I have went to. My English teacher Ms. Quinlan was one of the best teachers I have had. But the math teacher was a pervert and kept touching all of the students. But all of the work that they have is good but it also depends on luck if you get a good teacher but I was lucky because when I went to mega I was looking to improve my English and I got a good English teacher. This place gets the job done extremely well I have been there since 2nd grade and they have improved my school work really well. After the SHSAT program I got into all of the specialized high schools. So it has been proven to be useful. They have great programs during the school year every Saturday and Sunday. During the summer they have a month and a half program that I have done 3 times. The one con is that the seats are uncomfortable so I recommend that you bring a butt cushion or pillow. You should go here if you want to be successful. read more
