My…read morescore was hovering at 1900, but my parents and I wanted me to break 2000 especially since I was taking the PSAT in the fall. After taking the diagnostic, they realized that I only needed improvement in reading comprehension and writing. So they allowed us to not to pay for the full tutoring session. Despite that, I had no improvement. The homework is like any standard packet. What I needed was someone to teach me techniques. Luckily a guidance counselor (I went to BxSci) recommended another prep school to me (my PSAT score was a 190 so no improvement). That helped me get over a 2100 on the SAT. I suggest that parents looking for good prep courses do some research on the schools they pick. Don't look at just the numbers, but the teachers as well. It can make a really big difference.

I would not have done as comprehensive a job had I prepared him myself. Kweller provided the structure necessary to get the work done. The weekend check-in created a the deadline. We found the nightly homework more useful than the Zoom, but that could be individual preference. The homework helped highlight what areas my son needed work on. Also, it was helpful to have him practice sitting for a long test. It's not magic. It's practice, practice, practice. Don't expect a child to manage this by themselves. There was quite a bit of parental involvement until we were accustomed to the pacing and log-in. I'm happy we chose to use Kweller and I would use them again.

What stood out was Lamont's writing and essay help. He guided me throughout college applications and applying to programs in college. Due to his assistance, my writing and speaking skills have improved greatly. I got into a top 15 college and landed prestigious summer research internships thanks to Lamont. Lamont helped me with expressing my personal goals in a clear manner, and especially focused on polishing my ideas into a personal statement that really showed who I was outside of my application. I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for both writing development and development as a person outside of college applications to work with Lamont, because his ability to help a student self-develop is incredible. 10/10 Definitely go to Lamont and Premier Academy for essay help, you won't regret it!

My son has been attending Mathnasium of Bayside for about three months now as part of this…read moreMathnasium's 8 sessions a month package. Our commute to here is about 30 minutes but I feel it is worth it. There is ample metered street parking. This particular location (Mathnasium is a franchise and each center is privately owned) has what they call pods; three students are assigned to one tutor. I visited a different center where there was one "floating" tutor for the entire time your child is there. For me, this wouldn't have worked as my son needs a little more hands on help and oversight because of lack of ability to focus for long periods of time. Each session is an hour. Children are given binders to keep up with their progress. The center will "test" your child's level and help you determine where they would best fit in beginning their math sessions here. Julie, one of the co-owners of the center, has been more than acommodating to us in tweeking my son's individual plan based on what he is learning now in school. The other Mathnasium I visited noted they would only dedicate 15 minutes to homework. My son tutors with Ron and he's been very happy and says he has been able to learn new techniques from him. It's been three months so thus far am very happy with the center - very friendly, accommodating, polite and helpful. Would definitely recommend to anyone in need of school help.
