This is a nice way to get out and walk downtown Tucson. I got there too late to walk with a group. But everyone was so kind and pleasant. At the end everyone meets up in the courtyard of hotel congress (I believe they meet up here at the start also) they have a live band, you can order drinks and they do raffles. Since it was my first time I got two raffle tickets. (You must register online or before they start walking.) you get a t-shirt after 8 walks. One lady was recognized for 800 walks! You can get a map and walk by yourself or walk with one of the group leaders. If you're new to Tucson or just visiting like I was, I highly recommend. read more

What? I am so What about this. I thought it was going to be few people in big hair visors and fanny packs, and there are a few of those as well as the lycra bunch. It's actually pretty random and kinda fun. Coming down to Congress hang on the patio, get something to eat before hand, and go for a walk. Go for a walk with about 600 of your nearest and dearest friends, it's like going to a small Oklahoma wedding. I did the Doc walk once, it is a little too structured for me and I felt like the kid on the field trip who is about to AWOL at any moment. So I can observe them from afar, and wish them wealth, health, and happiness. They have drawings each time, a band, and the farmers market next door, I'm liking it. I don't usually make it through the laborious spiel at the end (at least 30 minutes). It's a good time and I will keep doing the do! read more

Tonight was Meet Me at Maynard s (MMM) 8th year birthday party - 419 consecutive Mondays. It was an excellent celebration. The route was about 2.5 miles; along the route were more than 20 performers/bands to help make your walk festive. To cap off the celebration, all the athletes gathered behind Hotel Congress for more entertainment; food and drink for purchase; cheering athletes receiving awards for milestones and the raffle of at least 25 gift certificates provided by MMM sponsors. It was a great evening and a big thank you to Jannie Cox and the army of volunteers she assembled to make this an outstanding evening. You don't have to feel bad if you missed this night because MMM will be meeting every Monday working their way towards year 9. I forgot to mention - MMM is free and open to all that want to participate. Hope you can make it some night. read more

MMM has become a Monday night ritual for hundreds maybe even thousands of Tucson locals....pretty crazy right? And despite the disruption of the modern streetcar roadwork it's still awesome and really has become a super well organized event....fully staffed with volunteers that make sure you get your reflectors for the run/walk. They're looking out for our safety! I really couldn't think of a better way to start off the week: Round up your buddies, go run/walk the route and wrap things up with an ice cold beer on the Hotel Congress where live music and raffles also await you. Bottom line is that it's FUN! It's FREE! and a great place to meet new people and for sure a great place to bring your dog. Become a regular and after 8 visits I think you earn your official MMM t-shirt...or at least a live shout-out. Plus, they've got a great list of downtown restaurants that offer discounts to MMM participants. Just show 'em your stamp and you're good to go! read more

MMM is AMAZING! Bring your dogs, your children. Its great for families, runners, anyone can get something out of this! It happens every Monday night rain or shine. You choose from a 2, 3, or 4 mile walk option. You get a map to follow, and you see Tucson along this route like you've never seen it before. After walk this walk is when I realized how much I love Tucson! You get a hand stamp for discounts at downtown restaurants after the walk, so downtown business and fitness are promoted. At 7:00 sharp there is a free drawing for downtown restaurants, there's a fun band, 2.00 beers.... it just doesn't get better. It's addicting! After 8 walks, you get a T-shirt, after 15, you get a MMM cap, after 50 a pin, and a purple shirt after 100 walks! read more

What a great community event! Every monday runners, walkers and people with doggies gather for Meet Me at Maynards, which begins more so at the parking lot outside of Hotel Congress than at Maynards Restaurant and Market. There is a live band playing, enticing out of towners to join the event with its spirited music. That's how we came upon the organized fun. Community organizers set up booths to loan you blinking lights to attach to yourself so you can send signal to cars to avoid hitting you on your tour around town. You follow a green painted line on the street that will take you past iconic downtown Tucson institutions. Restaurants along the route offer specials for those who want to pop in for a bite to eat or socialize. Some restaurants even set out water tables for runners and doggies to enjoy as they pass by. The event has a fantastic community feel and showcases some of the best parts of Tucson. If you are in town on a Monday, head on down and take part. read more

I love MMM. It's weird to reserve every Monday night to walk a few miles around downtown Tuscon (I'm not a big exerciser), but I look forward to this every week. The MMM community is vibrant and I am always surprised by the friendly, genuine people that I get to meet on Monday nights. Top this off with the dinner call-outs, special events, and discounts at surrounding restaurants and you've got a real winner. Oh, and you can't forget the raffle! This event is for EVERYBODY! Participants range from the super athletic to the once a week walker, older adults to babies, ladies and gentleman, and lots of dogs. If you're a single person there's a good chance you could find a date here and if you're in a relationship, the old adage "the couple who plays together - stays together" is met with MMM. I run with my boyfriend and about 6 of our friends every week. After the run we reward ourselves with a beer and some food at one of the many downtown/4th Avenue locations that provide discounts especially for participants. The various routes provide a chance to see some lovely parts of downtown Tucson and people watch, all while getting that recommended dose of exercise for the day! I've run this thing in the with the sting of winter hitting my face (28 degrees in February?!) and the shoe melting heat of summer (112 in July), but the majority of time I barely notice the weather. The level of energy of the people around you makes your feet fly! Get out! read more

There are really no negatives here. To start with it's free. I love all the yoga and dance classes I attend, but I do like to get some exercise in every so often that isn't costing me anything. It's really well organized. All the volunteers are super friendly. Everyone is there to have some fun. And they have a sweet raffle at the end. Week 2 was even better! We did the traditional route through downtown and up fourth ave. You really get to see a lot of Tucson in that 4 mile walk. Not to mention its a real "I'm on a boat" kinda feeling, where everyone doing MMM says hi to each other... love, love, love that. So far we have always been greeted with a big smile and a laugh! Meet Me at Maynard's is a great free community event for all ages with over 500 people participating every Monday. To join in the fun, come to the Congress Patio between 5-6:30pm any Monday afternoon to check in with the volunteers, and then take off downtown for a run or walk. MMM provides directions for 1-mile up to 4-mile routes. Afterwards, everyone gathers in the Congress patio for the round-up and raffle. We celebrate participants when they have attended MMM 8 times where they will receive their free MMM tee-shirt. After 15 times they will get an MMM hat. After 50 times, a MMM pin. And, if you are truly dedicated, after 100 times you will become a member of the Century Club and get a purple MMM tech t-shirt. GET OUT with MMM! read more

I have been going to MMM for awhile and love everything about it. It is great to get out and exercise with a fun group of people. All of the volunteers are wonderful. A great group of discounts is put together for the participants. I love that the event is dog friendly (and so do my chihuahua's). Overall, I love that there is an event that gets people out and moving, that promotes local business downtown, and lastly does so much for our community. One of my favorite events - I encourage anyone who is not familiar with downtown Tucson or who wants a fun, casual walk about to come on down. The event is really informal - you can start pretty much whenever you want. I recommend that if you are not familiar with the area to check out the map before you start. The directions they provide there aren't very clear, and there's not one big group all following the same route like you would find at other races. Most people don't follow the route exactly anyway and just kind of make up their own thing. After going a couple of times I think this is the best way to go - that way if you see something interesting you can just go over and check it out. Local businesses will usually provide discounts and one of the highlights of my trips is Downtown Kitchen's little stand with ice cold water and citrus water. I love MMM! I went for the first time recently and it was great. Very organized, everyone was helpful and friendly, got some exercise, saw parts of downtown Tucson I've never been to before, and got a really great discount for dinner (at certain restaurants) that night for participating in MMM. So much fun to get out, exercise, and have fun. I was told about this months ago, but never went because I'm not a runner and I was afraid I'd feel slow and stupid. But I finally tried it, and it's not a race at all. People can how up any time between 5:15 and 6 and just go on your own (on a route they give you). So it's not like everyone is starting together at a big line and you feel competitive. It's completely DIY with when you start and stop, and how fast you go. Everything is just there to support one another in getting exercise and supporting downtown. read more

I really enjoy warm & fuzzy feelings. I like when a big group of people get together to do something that is just good - like flashmobs. I'm one of those types of people. I like seeing people get together and feel safe and happy and relaxed. That's what MMM is! I have officially been an MMM athlete for 20 weeks (spread across 7 months because summer is rough!) and sometimes I invite people to go with me, and they respond "why would I want to do that?" so here's a few reasons why you should walk, jog or run around downtown tucson between 5:15-7 p.m. on Monday nights 1) Cheap beer and cheap food. That's what got my parents to join me this past Monday night ;). 2) Discounts at downtown restaurants (almost every single one participates!) so it's a great way to become a foodie and try some of the newer and more expensive places at a discount! 3) You get FREE STUFF - you get accolades/prizes based on the number of times you attend. 3a) More FREE STUFF - entered into a raffle every single Monday (and I have won before!) 4) It's a lot easier than you think - it's a great way to decompress after a busy day, to just walk around for 2 or 3 miles. 5) It's a really good excuse to run. I do this run every week with a good friend and my boyfriend, and we pretty much all agree that we wouldn't run weekly if it weren't for MMM. 6) The community of MMM athletes is awesome. It feels good to finish the course and share a table at Hotel Congress with a stranger who doesn't feel quite so strange because they are out there for the same reason as you. Everyone claps and cheers when people are acknowledged or win prizes, and half the crowd sings along to the folk band that entertains us week in and week out. Ok, I'll stop. You'll notice that every single review is glowing - that's because this is an entirely grassroots, warm & fuzzy feeling community-powered (and $2 beer-fueled) event that happens every week, rain or shine, heat or freak blizzard. Oh, and in case there was any confusion, it's absolutely free! I love MMM and I'm so thankful it is in my life - so bring your dog and your grandma and your stroller full of kids, because all are welcome! read more

Tucson, you impress me. With fitness focused events such as MMM, you really encourage people to get active and hang out downtown. The 3 mile run/walk is very well organized and FREE. Um...YES!! This place is awesome! Are you tired of exercising/running/walking around your park or the gym? Have no fear, MMM is here! Not only do you get to have fun and exercise without sitting at the gym; but you have a chance to get raffle prices (gifts certificates, etc.) So many great things about this weekly event. So every monday, I believe it starts at 5PM, you check in (after you check in a certain amount of times...you get certain prices. I.E. 8 times, MMM shirt, 16 times MMM hat, 50 times....etc) You are given a map (it should be the same unless they change it due to street lights issues and/or traffic) and it should be like a 3-4 miles run/walk/jog/social walk. You get to see all the local things that goes on....places you never encountered before. At the end of it...you can wait or if you are like me start at about 6PM and finish about 6:45PM because I walk with my friends....so you can be just in time for the raffle prices and such at 7PM. Also, if you want a beer that they offer...you can get it for about $2 or $3 (I forgot) in CASH. Not bad. If you didn't (or did) win any prices or get your check in gifts, not to worry. There are certain restaurants (I.E. Club Congress or Thunder Canyon Brewery) that will give you a discount (I believe 10 or even 20% depending on the store) off your whole check. Not bad at all, if you ask me. Last time I went, I won a pumpkin and a bag and water bottle. Pretty cool. Also, my friends and I went to get dinner at Thunder Canyon and got a discount. Awesome DEAL! This is definitely a highlight of my week! MMM is noncompetitive and so it is really great for all ages and all abilities. For me, running with friends through interesting neighborhoods makes it more tolerable. Plus, I bring the dog and they give her dog treats every week when I sign in! read more

Meet Me at Maynards saved my life. As of January last year, it had been a long time since I was able to call myself a runner. I had fallen out of training when my schedule got the best of me. MMM provided me with a regular time to get a run in. After the Monday runs became habit, the rest of my running routine fell into place. I have made a handful of friends that I can depend to be there each week. There are sweet prizes raffled off each week. and best of all, it's FREE! I love living in a town that has the whole city participate in being active! Every Monday night fro 5-7, people of all ages and sizes head on downtown to either Congress or if it is the 4th Monday of the month at Maynards Market. When you arrive on the patio you will see a bunch of friendly people and a place to sign in.. this is a FREE event but they keep track of who participates and you get goodies the more you attend. You can also sign up for a raffle, they usually have about 10 business or so offer up free stuff like restaurant gift certificates, shoe discounts, facials, etc and they call these out at 7pm promptly during the summer months and 6:45 the rest of the year. So after signing in, and signing up you can head out to run or walk. There is a 2 mile, 3 mile or 4 mile loop all around and there is a map so you dont get lost or just do as I do and follow the herd of people. Being outside and running is such a fun time, and seeing the city from this perspective makes me love living in Tucson. Along the route you will see photographers taking pictures of the runners, young families walking their strollers and friends catching up at the free water spots along the way. Alright I'll start out by saying that living in Tucson for 4 years, I've just started making it to downtown this year. I've been to MMM twice now, and it really is perfect for everyone. There are great runners, all the way down to walkers with families and dogs. Everyone is very friendly and encouraging. The course is nicely laid out, with varying lengths depending on how far you want to go. I usually go with a group, and it is a lot of fun, especially 'exploring' downtown. read more

While my fiance and I haven't been as often as we'd like (HEAT!), we did receive our tshirts a few weeks ago. We love MMM and its just a wonderful way to get out, meet new friends, do something positive, and support our fantastic local restaurants, of which we have many!
