I understand why some people may not be happy but also understand the challenges of trying to diagonse when the patient can't tell you what they are experiencing. We brought my Belgian Malinois in only because nothing else was open. They gave him a muscle relaxer after he inhaled water from the lake. Said he was in panic mode and it was to calm him down. The entire way to the hospital he was cognizant, calm, his head was up, & not aspirating. No panicking in any capacity. The heart is a muscle and after she gave him a muscle relaxer, he couldn't breathe, & in an oxygen tent, with oxygen tubing. We had to put him to sleep. . It would've been over $6000 to get him to breathe on his own again and even then they didn't think he'd live. These people killed my dog. If an animal is struggling after water inhalation, do not give a muscle relaxer. THE HEART IS A MUSCLE. Duh! That's just common sense. Spoke to a friend who's a the DVM in Texas and he was shocked at what they did to my baby boy. These people have no clue what they're doing. I'LL NEVER FORGIVE THESE PEOPLE. Don't serve insult to injury by giving a cookie cutter response; (i.e.we're so sorry..) not interested and it won't bring my Malinois back. My cat, Marilyn, seems to always need to be seen by an emergency vet after I am ready for bed, but the staff at MedVet Mandeville are exactly what you need in times of stress. All of the staff are courteous and treat Marilyn with the kindness she needs, especially since she is not fond of being in a carrier or at the vet in general. They are also great with pricing estimates and very efficient at sending everything over via email. Long story short, they didn't know what was going on with her unless I gave them another $3800 to do more tests. Then basically told me my pup was not doing well and it's okay to let her go and have her humanely euthanized. A month later, she is still with us and doing well. On 8/19/25, my dog was hit by a car. That same morning, I took her to our primary vet, where they did an exam, X-ray, & ultrasound. All exams came back normal except for some bruising & tenderness. She went home on pain medication & anti-inflammatories. She had been in good spirits the rest of the week & seemed to be moving better every day. On Sunday, 8/24/25, she was very lame at home. Just lounging around & not wanting to play. When I was petting her, I noticed bulging fluid along her right side. I immediately rushed her to Medvet, fearing it could be internal bleeding. MedVet did an ultrasound, X-ray, & aspirated a syringe of fluid. They told me again that everything was clear & that the fluid buildup was normal with traumatic injuries. She also had some bruising along her side. I asked about a drain again because I was really concerned about the amount of fluid. I was hesitant to leave without a drain, but their "criticalist" advised not to. Advising that sometimes it can be the worst thing to do & can introduce bacteria. I did the warm compresses & massages as instructed every day. Giving her anti-inflammatories, pain medication & antibiotics regularly. The fluid wasn't going away quickly, but it did not appear to get any worse. I weighed her every day to track if it was continuing to build up. I'm not a vet, so I trusted them & their word, doing everything as recommended for her. Then it got very bad, very quickly. On Thursday, her skin started seeping fluid because it had to go somewhere. I asked our primary vet about the fluid, voicing my concerns. They said they could take her, so I dropped her off first thing Friday morning, 8/29/25. Later that day, when I got the call, they let me know she would need surgery. Her skin tissue was dying because of the fluid buildup. They told me they would need to remove the necrotic tissue & place a drain to stop the fluid buildup. I let them know to do whatever they needed to help her. At this point, irreversible damage had already been done & it would only get worse. They did her surgery, removed the necrotic tissue & stitched her up. 9/1/25, I got a call from our vet, where I let them hold her for the weekend, to let me know that despite them removing the necrotic tissue, her skin had continued to die. The vet said they were going to need to sedate her again to remove more of the dead tissue, but that there's only so much skin to pull together when they already removed a lot on Friday. I was told it is very likely they will need to do a skin graft to repair the damage that has been done. Yes, Medvet did an ultrasound & X-ray as well as aspirated a syringe of the fluid to test, all the same things our primary vet did the day she was hit, just for 4.5x the cost. I thought I was doing the right thing by bringing her to Medvet, but they did nothing of benefit. They sent her home with all that fluid build up misleading me by telling me it was normal, that massages & warm compresses would do. Everyone at our primary vet is in disbelief that a drain was not placed when she was brought here on Sunday. Having one placed could have prevented this, & sending her home without one was the wrong call. I, alongside our primary vet, stand behind that. In just a few days, she went from some bruising to this. We were essentially sent on our way with antibiotics & good luck, but not before being charged an outrageous bill. Money that could have gone towards actually helping her. I would've done anything they recommended that day to save my girl & then I was faced with the very real possibility that I would lose her. As of today, 9/5, Freya is still being boarded at our vet where she has now had two surgeries and she will need to stay the rest of the weekend and will come home on Monday. The pictures attached are from the vet on 9/1, after her first procedure showing how her skin had continued to die after the initial removal of necrotic tissue. When I received the pictures, it took my breath away. It's so heartbreaking knowing the day I took her to MedVet she had such beautiful hair and only bruising, which they made aware to me. There were no open wounds or sores, and here we are today. I wish I could go back and choose to hold out till Monday to see our vet. To not trust their recommendations that got us here. I brought my sick dog in there today and $700 later I still don't know what's wrong with my dog or if he will make it through this. Bloody stools and he puked yellow bile vomit while in the exam room. What a ghoulish bunch taking advantage of grieving worried pet owners by gouging on testing and the office visit. Almost $400 for the visit $300 roughly for testing. Don't believe their act. This is a chain of private equity funded rip off clinics. They really came through for us at 2am with our beloved dog, Elphie. Yes, it's expensive because it's an emergency vet, but I like my dog better than just about anything or anyone, so I don't care. I also want to note that they do have some sort of credit program you can apply for help to pay. I was fortunate enough not to need to do that but I saw the signs because you never know. We thought our dog was dying and got stuck on 12 in semi trucks in one open lane because of the highway construction. It was so awful moving 20 miles an hour while my dog is in extreme distress. It was unbelievable how long it took us to get there at 2am. Thank goodness everyone at the clinic was really nice! They took her back immediately. We filled out paperwork (1page) and they put us in a room. A few minutes later the veterinarian came in and after we explained the situation she told us what she thought we should start with doing. She told us she needed X-rays and they were expensive but that was going to be important for her to determine anything else. We said go ahead. She came back within 20 minutes to show us the X-rays. She said that she could see enough to know that her stomach was full and that she may have a blockage but she would recommend some other tests first like an ultrasound to be sure. She said they could keep her overnight, monitor her, give her fluids and pain meds. The reason she is acting so distressed is from the pain she is in. Her labs are good and breathing/oxygen good, kidneys look good. Suggested they could also give her the fluids and pain meds and she could go home with us and we take her to our regular vet in the morning so it wouldn't cost as much. She said she didn't see anything she thought was life threatening. We just need to handle her pain and that way we could save some money to have if she needed surgery because that could be very expensive. We decided to take her home. They gave her fluids, pain and nausea meds and sent her X-rays (and report) to our Vet the next morning. I'm not sure why some people had a different experience but I was told the cost of the expensive items before they did them and I approved them. The veterinarian we saw (I wish I could remember her name!) is fantastic and worked to save us money! Gave us all the options. She was really calm which was great because my nerves were shot by the time I got there. We were in during the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 24, 2023 if anyone who works there sees this review. The Metairie location is far superior to this one. It's extremely unprofessional. Not only did they make us wait a whopping 40 minutes at 2:00 A.M. for a shot we had informed them about an hour beforehand, but they also attempted to give my dog a shot inside my car instead of in a room. When things fell through as they didn't try a room, they proceeded to inject him bare on the parking lot floor, even going as far as to place the needle on the UNSTERILE parking lot. To top it off, on my way back to the south shore while on the causeway, I received a call that I was $10 short of a $100 payment despite paying $100 cash, as shown COMPLETELY on the invoice. Mind you, this call came in 10 minutes after I left the location, even after spending a good minute in the parking lot afterward. It is one year since the death of my dog Boo. She was the bestest girl and not a day goes by that I don't regret taking her to this EVET. The biggest mistake is that I let them keep her for a day and a half. The friendliness is an act. The vet that called me was as an actress and an accountant. The inflections in her voice to make believe concern were only to convince me to allow them to send Boo to another facility that would cost an additional ten to fifteen thousand dollars on top of the three thousand these people charged to kill my dog. I brought her in on a Friday night, Friday the 13th, and the first blood test showed a creatinine of 3.9 (stage 3 kidney failure) and BUN 44. All the fluids and meds made it so much worse. You do not give fentanyl to a dog with kidney failure. It is contraindicated! If that was required to get the ultrasound, then no ultrasound should have been done! I had to approve the ultrasound in order to get the better vets to access my dog, because on the weekend they are only there in the morning. Nothing they did for my dog helped. They reluctantly let me pick her up in the afternoon of October 15th, because even with dialysis there was a good possibility she would die. She was a 10 year old dog that had chronic and acute kidney failure due to Leptospirosis she contracted from a Lepto vaccinated puppy I fostered. The conversation was an Academy award performance on the phone to attempt to persuade me to let her stay! They sent her home with many different meds, but no antibiotics! She was taking antibiotics at the facility, so she needed them! When I took her to the local vet that sent me here on the morning of the 16th to run a blood test her creatinine was 11.8 and her bun was 104! This from Friday night to Monday morning! Unfortunately this day she stopped walking. The meds were not helping and feces began to pour from her. I had no choice, but to have her humanely euthanized. Boo still had her cognitive ability, so this was absolutely horrible. There is no denying that this was a failure by this facility. She was dying, but it didn't need to be this way. Last Thursday my 14 year old chihuahua Pepper woke up unable to breathe, couldn't walk, and was urinating on himself. Scariest thing I've ever seen. The staff treated me like family in such an awful, stressful time in my life. I am so grateful for their kindness, professionalism, and just genuine care for Pepper. Let me start off by nothing that I don't question the care of the doctors and staff nor do I question their commitment and love of the animals that come into the emergency clinic. I would easily give that aspect alone a five star review. The doctor we saw was excellent and we couldn't be more pleased with our dogs care under her watch. However, I just can't shake the negative felling I get when it comes to the financial end of the practice. Let's face it, veterinary care isn't cheap to start with but I can't help but feel fleeced just sitting here. Across from us on the wall is a touch screen where people without a credit card or enough available credit can apply for a credit account payment plan. I just witnessed a couple with their child get denied right In front of a full waiting room. This is so demeaning and I really feel for the couple. Can't they do this in the privacy of another room? Wanted to try this place for my dog's skin condition. After the initial call and pricing for the visit, I made an appointment. We went there where they took her to the back for about 5 minutes. They came out and said they recommended to get an allergy test which has to be set up later. My bill for the office visit and shot and of course doggie shampoo was over 400 dollars, way more than the 150 visit I was told. Now the allergy testing will be around 800 dollars. Upon arrival we were told we needed to make a deposit of $3000.00 for her treatment and that the max needed would be $4000.00; I was shocked but paid the $3k. The next day they called to say she need to stay another night which we all knew to begin with. Surprise! They need another $1500 for the second night... so the "max" I was quoted was a lie. We took our dog to Medvet early in June. While the doctors there were very good- it was not the medical care we had an issue with- they asked us to pay $2000 dollars up front. I paid them with a check on June 12. The understanding was that they would refund us the difference if the medical care costs were lower than the $2000. The final cost of the care was approximately $1300 . We are now moving towards the end of July, and as of July 22nd we have still not received the refund check. We were told the check was cut on June 28th. The business department has not been helpful AT ALL. We were told we would receive it either last week or this week. It has still not arrived. We are very frustrated with them and are at the point of seeking legal advice if need be. $700 is a significant amount! My advice: Always pay with a credit or debit card. Also, negotiate the cost of upfront payments. This is clearly a corporation that overcharges and cares more about financial profit than the customers and animals it is supposed to help. read more

This is unquestionably a 5-star medical facility that we would highly recommend for oncology care, as that's been the reason for our experience with them. We value them so much that we drive 4.5 hours, each way, every 3 weeks for our dog's treatments. We live in Inlet Beach, Florida and our 12-year-old Labrador Retriever was diagnosed with anal gland cancer. We don't have oncology veterinary specialist/surgery teams in our area so we did some research to figure out where to take our pooch. Both Auburn University Vet school and Louisiana State University Vet school referred us to MedVet Mandeville. The entire MedVet team has been incredible from the first call. They reviewed our dog's records and scheduled him for an oncology and surgery consult and operation the next week. Dr Sarah Lyles, the oncologist, and Dr Cody Doyle, the surgeon, have worked as a team since that first meeting and have been incredibly thorough in their exams, diagnostic testing and treatment. Dr Doyle performed an extremely difficult (9 out of 10) five-hour operation with a great outcome. He is down-to-earth, highly accessible (gave us his cell #) and very talented. Dr Lyles is too, as well as the anesthesiologist and all the vet techs on our dog's team. These Vets are highly trained, board certified and have a lot of experience. Emergencies and serious illnesses are all they do, day-in-and-day-out. All that training and experience means they are not cheap, but in our opinion, they are worth every penny. Cancer is cancer, and we know it's not easy and there are no guarantees. We trust this team implicitly to do the very best for our dog, and we believe 100% that you can trust them too. *Be judicious in getting cost estimates because their billing system is a bit wacky in that each functional group that touches your pet submits their own invoice to accounting, who creates a final bill for you. Therefore, it's easy for the doctors not to know your full costs. They need to improve here but you can be proactive and take control of the situation by asking, every time, "what's my all-in cost estimate including doctor consults, diagnostic testing, hospital stays, Rx, etc." I promise it's worth it. read more

She was in very bad shape but they tried everything to save her including giving her love. There are no words to truly elaborate enough on how grateful our entire family was for their team. They treated Voodoo as if she was their own. Voodoo was quite the fighter a nd she felt very comfortable with the team. I can't recommend this animal hospital enough. Is there anything less than 1 star? Our cat was bitten on the head by a Copperhead. We had the snake body. The vet did nothing, said he saw no evidence of a bite, but the cats head was swollen and oozing. He sent us away. The cat got worse, we returned. HAD TO WAIT 4 HOURS TO SEE THE VET. Still refused to give meds. Finally after our badgering we were given pain meds. We self treated him with antibiotics, fluids and he responded after a day and a half. I don't think I waited 10 minutes before one of the vet assistants came out to help me and take Addison to the back. I ended up leaving her there and they called me a couple hours later to pick her up. They did a great job and Dr. Hebert-Fisher sat down and explained everything in detail. Very nice lady. I can not thank the whole team at MedVet enough! You SAVED my fur baby Odin. When I brought him in he was unable to walk, eat, drink, very lethargic, crying in pain etc. These symptoms happened within 48hrs and he is only 4 months old. I felt so hopeless thinking I was going to lose him... They made sure to do everything possible to save my baby, not only that they truly loved him and showed SO much affection. Every night I left him there I actually felt hope..I looked forward to each call I received every morning. Yesterday I was able to take Odin home! He is walking (not perfect but he's almost there) eating, drinking, and I see so much life in him again. Recently had a bad scar with one of our four fur babies, Charlie. He was very sick and not improving at all under local ER care. This clinic was recommended for their specialty capabilities. The we're expecting us on arrival & took him straight back for eval. ER Vet (Jessica, I think) was great, discussed the plan or care & next steps for his stay. She listened to my concerns and made sure they were addressed & put to rest without delay. She even called with the results of that initial test before I was halfway home, which was a HIGE relief for me. He received excellent care and began improving within the first 12 hours with these folks. Appropriate tests were done & explained to us, plan of care was appropriate and did not include unnecessary tests. Vet Jessica (IM) called when she said she would so I was not left wondering how he was. When I'd call at night to check on him (so I could sleep better) his 'ICU nurse' was always available with an update at her fingertips. I also like that they take the animals out for short walks to do business (when the pet can), as mine will not 'go' in a crate. Monica, young lady managing IM front desk phone was also very polite and nice, able to answer questions quickly and proficiency before we arrived and after discharge. He is home now and recovering well. I feel very fortunate to have been recommended here and you may rest assured if anything happens down the road we will be back. Not cheap, but well worth it to us. This is SO overdue!!! These folks have cared for almost every single one of my seven pets at some point. Let me preface this with a quick factoid: LVRC has been Med Vet for quite a bit now. I filled out the form, emailed to Yelp, yada, yada & so on. It really doesn't matter! They are in the same location doing the same things. 1.) LVRC/MED-VET is a veterinary referral & emergency hospital. This means if your regular vet finds cancer, a growth, etc... They'll most likely refer you to these doctors. Just like human medicine, there are specialists here. Oncology, orthopedists, etc.. They also have advanced equipment like ultrasound. 2.) Sounds expensive? It can be at times! Depending on your pets' diagnosis. On separate occasions I've spoken with several different Dr.'s here. Each one of them was honest, compassionate & presented the options. I never felt pressured to spend lots on anything unnecessary, ever. My little 2 cents advice- get vet insurance. I've been so glad I did! 3.) These people are kind & good folks! From the front office- Andre' & Sunny know me well. They're always super kind, down to earth & nice to chat with. To the vet techs, assistants, interns & Dr.'s here. To Robbie who runs the Rehabilitation program. For pets to build back strength (specific manipulation/stretching/etc...)post-surgery. As well as dogs that need the underwater treadmill for maintenance. Seriously. These people are awesome. 4.) Whether it's an emergency at 2AM, cancer or rehab for your pet(s), go!!!! 5.) Several of my pets lived a longer, high quality life due to the regimen(s)/care from LVRC/Med-Vet. Thankfully, two of them still are!!! read more
