There were surprises along the way (e.g., missing chunks of foundation as a result of previous retrofits) and things beyond the actual foundation (unpatched holes in the bottom exterior walls). Action Restoration went above and beyond to resolve my issues and it is amazing how warm the upstairs floor is now! I cannot say enough about how rare and pleasant it is working with a company that follows through on commitments, answers when you call, 30+ years of expertise, respectful of clients, and, most importantly, human beings that are there to help you, not to take advantage. I give Action Restoration a solid 5-star rating across the board: Communication: 5 stars; Professionalism: 5 stars; Quality of the work: 5 stars; Cleanliness: 5 stars; Overall Experience: 5 stars.

My neighbour seems really happy with their service however that is not why I chose to write this review. I have dealt with many contractors over the years and never have a had a team be so incredibly courteous. No matter who you are talking to they are friendly and accommodating. All the neighbours have been talking and this feeling is universal. Just a small example, they are working in our driveway and have fencing around the whole. Our door is down the driveway and I asked that when they are done for the day they make sure to push the fence away from our house so that my wife can get the stroller down the driveway even if no one is there to help. They were totally understanding and every single day since the fencing has been pushed back. The organizational culture of service is truly incredible. Kudos to everyone there.

Contract signed a few days later stipulating that work would begin before the end of August. Job not started until mid September and still not completed by end of October, 6 weeks later. After contract signed and before work started the project manager said that the job would never be completed in two weeks, however she told me twice that once started her crews would not be pulled off to do other work. There were periods from 3 to 8 days when nobody appeared on site. 25 feet of corner foundation was open to the world and left exposed for a week with some plastic sheets blowing in the wind. Crews did not know from one day to the next if they were returning to my home to continue work. My calls to the front office were received with comments about how crews can't work in the rain ! Retaining walls were not removed but buried just beneath the surface; I stopped one crew from using a Sawzall to cut buried plywood only inches from an underground natural gas line. In frustration I terminated the contract and hired two independents to finish the job. Consequently other contractor schedules were thrown off and ultimately unable to finish work before the winter set in. During the final conversation with the general manager he only said that he would take my complaint as "constructive criticism" never once apologizing for the inconvenience. If you do hire this company to work on your home expect to have them demand a cheque from you every few days for each small step of work they complete. At one point I had an email requesting payment for work no yet completed. I do not recommend this company.

In case you don't have the time or inclination to read the whole sorry saga, here is the gist of…read moreit: after about an hour's worth of work, this contractor requested some payment. Receiving far more than he was owed at that point, he then abandoned the job and vanished. First, note: 20 years in business claimed but only 20 reviews, all within the last five years. No physical address, no website, no email address, and as far as I could tell no own pickup truck either. But on to the gory details. Early in August, 2024, I contacted PR, owner of Russo Concrete, to repair some cracks in the foundation wall around my house and to then reparge it. A few days later, PR came for an estimate, and I took him around the house to show him the scope of the work. Smoking the whole time, he seemed oddly impatient. We agreed on a price, and he informed me that he would do the job the following weekend. That never happened. A week after that, PR showed up at my door, proclaiming he had lost his phone and could not let me know he wasn't coming (but did not explain why he didn't come and certainly didn't apologize). As absurd as that sounded, I decided to just let it go. He then asked to leave his equipment in my yard and promised to start the job the following day. That didn't happen either. As before, he did not let me know he wouldn't be coming. One afternoon, about a week later, PR appeared again and started to do some work. After an hour or so, with about a third of the work done, he declared he was done for the day. To my surprise and dismay, he then asked me where in my yard he could wash the concrete off his wheelbarrow. I allowed him to do that over some mulch in an inconspicuous corner--I shouldn't have. (Earlier, he asked to use my garden hose to wash the wall with. He left it unspooled and encrusted with concrete, the reel toppled over.) As he was about to leave, PR told me he would finish the job the next morning and then asked for some money so that he could buy more materials. I had no problem with a partial payment at that point; I was just astounded that he needed that to buy materials with. It was getting late by then, and I was tired and hungry and really didn't feel like tearing open the envelope I had prepared for him and count bills. What I now see clearly as red flags somehow did not register as such then, and so I proceeded to commit the most egregiously naive of all errors a buyer can make: I just gave that envelope to him. He took the cash with barely contained glee--$2,300, for an hour of work and a bag of parging mix--and vanished (abandoning his grungy wheelbarrow and buckets and an assortment of rusty tools in my yard). I have made several attempts to contact PR since. He has ignored them all. PR saw an opportunity to make easy money and took it without compunction. He returned a gesture of trust and good will from a kind, older person with shameless dishonour and dishonesty. What else might a man of such reprehensible integrity be capable of? There is no shortage of parging contractors; you don't need to risk finding out! And then, of course, there is the quality of the work (i.e., damage) that he did do. I have been informed by other contractors what the recommended procedure is for repairing cracks in concrete foundation. PR did none of that. He just shoved parging compound into those cracks--carelessly, sloppily. Look at the attached photos. This looks like the work of a twelve-year-old!

In case you don't have the time or inclination to read the whole sorry saga, here is the gist of…read moreit: about an hour after starting the work, Peter Russo, owner of Russo Concrete, requested some payment so he can buy more materials for the following day. After receiving the cash--far, far more than an hour's worth of work--he left the site to never return, abandoning his wheelbarrow and buckets and tools in my yard. He has ignored or declined every attempt I've made to communicate with him since. (Photos showing Peter Russo's handiwork (damage, really) on that one-hour stint are appended below.) Early in August 2024, I contacted Peter Russo to repair some cracks in the foundation wall around my house and to then completely reparge it. A few days later, Russo came for an estimate. I took him around the house to show him the scope of the work and noticed that he seemed oddly impatient. I was also taken aback by his continuous smoking. He quoted me a price, I counteroffered, and he agreed to it instantly, shooting his hand at me to seal the deal. He informed me that he would do the job the following weekend. My wife and I cancelled plans we had made for that weekend, and during that week I spent a good amount of time dismantling two rain barrels and clearing the base of the foundation wall and the periphery of the house to ensure Russo had easy access and could work effectively. The weekend came, and went, and nothing happened. Well, things happen, I thought. I was sure I would hear from him. I didn't. A week later, Peter Russo showed up at my door with a wide smile and that "noth'n I could do about it" hand gesture, proclaiming he had lost his phone and could not let me know he wasn't coming (but not explaining why he didn't come and certainly not apologizing). As absurd as that sounded, I decided to just let it go. I just wanted to get the thing done. Russo then asked to leave his equipment in my yard and promised to start the job the following day. He just didn't show up. One afternoon, about a week later, Peter Russo arrived unexpectedly with a helper and started to actually do work. (That poor helper had a bad headache, apparently, and was left sitting on the porch to work his phone. But that didn't matter, Russo said reassuringly; even his daughter was a better helper...) After an hour or so, he declared he was done for the day. To my surprise and dismay, he then asked where in the yard he could wash the concrete off his wheelbarrow.
