However, I later received an unexpected separate office visit charge in addition to the preventive exam billing. My concern was not the care itself, but the lack of transparency regarding billing. During the wellness visit, the provider briefly reviewed outside lab results I had brought with me, and I was later billed for a separate office visit associated with that discussion. I was not informed during the appointment that this could result in an additional charge. After reviewing my visit documentation, I also felt portions of the note did not fully reflect my understanding of the visit, particularly regarding the extent of evaluation performed beyond the wellness exam. After raising concerns and providing supporting documentation, the office acknowledged overlap between the preventive visit and additional billing and indicated the matter would be reviewed. However, I did not receive a final follow-up or resolution regarding the coding review or reimbursement request. I would encourage the practice to improve communication around preventive visit billing and provide more consistent follow-up during billing disputes.

He's extremely intelligent, a savvy, current physician, has a wonderful manner, is very caring and compassionate, and spends a very long time with each appointment. I am a very discerning consumer about my, and my family's, medical care. I'll research high and low for the right doctor. I've found the absolute right PCP in Dr. Long. You truly won't find a more thorough, intelligent, compassionate, or caring PCP anywhere in Northern Virginia. He has complete knowledge of, and will discuss with you at length, any current research and/or studies re your particular medical issue. He's very funny, too, which is welcome icing on the cake! :D Additionally, he's available via email. I caretake my mom at home, and there have been many times I've had to email Dr. Long about her condition(s). He always responds in a timely manner, and, sometimes, late at night. What doctor does that in 2016? Do not hesitate to see Dr. Long...especially if you're smart and like to take an active role in your healthcare. It's like having your nicest, smartest, most humble, and most caring college professor as your primary care physician. :) Oh - and LOVE his staff, too. I schedule my appointments weeks, if not a month, in advance, in order to get in her first time slot of the day. If I were to cancel with as little notice as her office has given me, I'd be charged. The staff is not kind and compassionate when you are agitated about the change. Second, that first time slot of the day? Is at 10am. If you have regular work hours, forget it. I have yet to be seen at 10am; more like 10:40 or so. I know doctors tend to run late - but the first appointment, all the time? Third, I agree with a previous post that she lacks empathy and appears indifferent. My last annual appointment, she reviewed my bloodwork, and stated "you have (condition that is related in part to being overweight)." And that was it. "You have (it)." I had to ask what I could do about it and whether its reversible, etc. and her answer was to take some supplements. No indication what strength of this supplement, or the optimal time of day to take it, with/without food - no information whatsoever. But the worst is she NEVER suggested losing weight, which is easily the most effective treatment! Advanced Health Center even has brochures about their programs to help people with weight loss, so I'm stunned that she never bothered to address it with me. She said I could come back for another blood test in 6 months, yet there has been no follow-up by the office. I'm proactive about my health; I made an appointment so she can write me a prescription to go get the blood test (they won't allow this to be handled over the phone). And I just received a text that she has to cancel the appointment.

When my daughter was quite ill and running low on options, Shor stepped in and saved the day. Since then, he's provided her with first-rate care as her general practitioner. I've been extremely impressed with the care I've received from both the doctors and their staff. In their Herndon location, they even have onsite ability to conduct standard serum testing. This streamlining for me is coupled with the extremely generous amount of time that doctors spend during appointments. I feel that the concierge practice model has provided care far exceeding what my old local medical practice had become after losing a few key physicians through retirement. I'm not sure if they are accepting new patients, but if Lifetime Internal Medicine is, I highly advise trying this 'small' team concierge solution as a return to times when medicine was practiced by Doctors instead of Doctors applying a one-size-fits-all template strategy for the codified roll-out of big-med:-)

Dr. Posner went a step further after becoming an internist. He went through rigorous continuing education to earn his diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine certification, which is only awarded to internal medicine physicians who continue their education and training while in practice. Generally when you're under the care of an internist, you won't need to see any other types of doctors for routine care. Internal medicine physicians, like Dr. Posner, are highly trained at diagnosing even the most complex of health issues. During your visit, he will gather information about your health, and family medical history and discuss any symptoms you're having, or concerned about. It's typical to order some basic lab work, especially if you're just getting set up as a new patient. He might order additional tests if further clarification with any diagnosis is needed. Once he diagnoses medical issues, if any at all, he'll be the one treating you. Or if you have a chronic health condition, like diabetes or high cholesterol, he will teach you how to manage it and prescribe any medications you need. Your primary care physician is an essential partner in your efforts to stay healthy. Even if you never get sick, you still need to see your PCP once a year, just to have screenings done for chronic conditions that may not show any signs.
