Disclaimer: I am not a student or educator. I am reviewing the tour of the school that my high school students and I participated in. We were met by gentleman (I'll update his name later) and led to the auditorium where he gave my students an overview of the college, the application and financial aid process. That was immediately followed by a brief Q&A and then we heard 1 testimonial of a gentleman named Walik who is a part of the admissions team but is also a Social Worker. He attended Medgar for his associates and went to Hunter for Grad school so it was great for the students to hear from him. He spoke in great details about all thr programs Medgar have to support those students who were academically advanced such as (SEEK) and an accelerated program that allows an individual to complete their Associates in 1 1/2 yr. In other cases students needing remedial classes can take them at discounted rates outside of the CUNY credit course pricing range. The full time tuition they shared is currently $3, 165. We began a tour in the nursing department. The tech was a beautiful Muslim lady (forgot her name) who was well versed in her knowledge of her field. She explained the different components of the nursing program and application process, the different levels within the program, licensing , exams necessary, academic requirements and specialities within the field. In the lab where we met her they had about 6 mannequins for practice (babies and adults ) that can perform human functions and is a great tool for nursing students who need to practice. There are apparently 6 of these kinds of labs. Throughout the rest of the facility I noticed that the library was nicely renovated. We also got a chance to see the cafeteria which was incredibly small but Medgar apparently only has 7,000 students compared to Baruch which has approximately 36,000. Based on the information shared it appears that Medgar would be a great fit for the student looking for small class sizes and a smaller campus/setting where folks are all familiar with one another. Again, I am not a student but the tour guides insisted that everyone knew each other. The hallways were seemingly quiet with lots of seating and study areas fitted with charging stations to meet the needs of the students. I'd suggest touring the school yourself before making a decision and def speak to current students.

Downstairs of the newly renovated library...its pretty nice

Brooklyn College runs on two different sets of tracks. A set of tracks for the old guard, and a set…read moreof tracks for everybody else. You will quickly notice favoritism, particularly with the registrar. Be sure to pay your tuition in person, the registrar has been known to cancel classes by alleging that your tuition check arrived late. Many Professors at Brooklyn College have agendas to run. In addition to teaching, the typical Professor has a charity to support, a cause to support, or something to whine about. There are more Marxist's on the payroll at BC than anybody can count. BC is also a very competitive place. If you are in a Laboratory do not leave your experiment unattended. Students have been known to sabotage other students work. Do not share your written work with anyone. Plagiarism is a bad habit with the old guard at BC. Once upon a time BC was very well maintained, these days it is falling apart. There are serious issues in Boylan and James hall's. The Library clock has been broken for years. Where the maintenance money is going is a mystery to me. BC had some great Professors once upon a time. They have all retired, and alas some have passed. Hans Trefousse(History), Peter Brancazio(Physics), David Minars(Accounting), Jim Johnson(Speech), and John Blamire(Biology) are all gone. What you are stuck with these days are a bunch of antiquated buffoons that are totally out of touch with reality. Best of luck if you go, you may want to look for a job instead. There are a lot of businesses hiring now that the pandemic is under control. Why wait?

Today I attended an Open House session at St. Joseph College…read more The Open House was well organized and the campus tour give by the students (two freshman) was informative. The campus is spread over two block and is near the Pratt institute campus. My impression of this college is very positive. Plus- Small school, personal attention, small classes. 90% of the student body are commuters. Neighbor is historical- Clinton Hill. School is close to the city. The tuition is reasonable for a private school. The story is acessible by subway (G-train) and buses on Mytle Ave. and Dekalb Ave. (This review is from the view poinr of a parent with a college bound child.)

The library and classrooms need a huge makeover because everything looks like a public primary school. 13 block walk from Dekalb ave station. The people are nice, but the school isn't organized. Being a non-matriculated student here, I did not get on the right foot in. I do not take classes physically here but the problems I had to encounter do not make me want to take any in the future. I was charged for a $716 mandatory insurance because I was "placed" on a list with the matriculated students. And I didn't get any prior physical mail until an invoice came to my doorstop. The problem was taken care of, but they need better correspondence to their students before giving students private information to companies without the students consent. Yes, this school is in a historic area, but hey, this is the 21st century and you are in NYC, upgrade please!
