I'm not sure what parameters U.S. News and World Report used to arrive at their ranking. My stay at Shirley Ryan was not what I expected. It was frequently unpleasant and very stressful. I knew that their physical therapy and occupational therapy staff were supposed to be top-notch, and they are. It's the support staff services (nurses, techs) that can be dramatically improved. I was at Shirley Ryan approximately 1 month after spending 3 months at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. I frequently encountered rude and sometimes incompetent/untrained nurses and techs. I did not always get the same staff assigned, so I experienced several nurses and techs. Sadly, I rarely had staff assigned who did a great job and truly seemed to care about my recovery. The others appeared to see me as just a task they had to complete as part of their job, which they did not seem to like. My daily housekeeping staff was more pleasant than many of my nurse/tech caregivers. I'll refrain from naming those I consider the worst of the bunch. Just keep in mind that you'll likely encounter inconsistent and poor care from some of the Shirley Ryan nurses and techs. If so, don't hesitate to speak up to management (Charge Nurse, etc.) should you experience inadequate care.

How did he get to that position again? You couldn't set it up right there and then, ok fine whatever. Monday comes no call until I call at 4:30pm just to argue with the women saying they don't accept it. Why didn't I get a call back? We go back and forth for five minutes after asking for the guy I spoke to. She was the office manager supposedly ,beating around bush until she finally passes the call. He was the district manager who didn't know what insurances are acceptable. says he will get back to me. Moral of story go down the street to pt solutions, friendly, nice and helpful. Wouldn't recommend this place.

So I don't recommend this place for any therapy to be taken place here. It's small and it smells in there. If you need therapy go to "Shirley Ryan Ability Lab" ten times better then these little family own places. I give this place a negative -star!!

First of all, the location could not be better with ample parking spaces and brand new therapy room. But more importantly the staff is amazing. I even had a difficult time dress myself or even putting on my shoes. Yes, all simple tasks were nearly impossible! I went to urgent care, the chiropractor, a spine specialist, and even tried PT at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab with little to no relief. I heard about aqua therapy and ask my doctor to investigate it with me. I found Rush PT at Morraine Valley. Religiously I went 3-days a week. It was AMAZING. Things I could NOT do on land I could accomplish in the water. Eventually, we moved our therapy program to land with great success. Sarah my therapist recommended dried needling to help relieve my pain. I was reluctant at first but she assured me it was safe and effective. SURPRISE.... I was able to get off all my pain meds. (I was on 3 different types 3 times a day). It was like the spasms and pain stopped misbehaving. My pain was gone! My movement restored! Today, I am following the exercise program that Sarah has laid out for me and try to swim at least 2-days a week. I am back to my old self, med-free, pain-free, and happy to be moving again! Also, a big thanks to Sara in billing who provided up to date detailed bills and working with my crazy schedule. Thank you to Sarah, Melissa and Sara for taking such good care of me!

Shameful that their ONLY advisement is to prescribe meds so they are not functional since I guess it would be too much work for the staff there. No compassionate care and everything was this resident's fault it seemed. I will not divulge the rest of the sordid details, but I am aghast at the indifference and borderline neglect regarding this community's services. Especially pertaining to a specialized ward such as Memory Care. SHAME!!!!!!

We were sold on the location which was very close to where she was previously living by herself and the proximity to the lake and Andersonville. While she began to settle in OK during the first year in assisted living as her Alzheimer's progressed, so did the care she received. My mother was an incredibly intelligent and social woman. She was a retired college professor and maintained her intellect and curiosity throughout the course of her awful disease. The majority of the staff at The Admiral however, was unsupportive of her desire to understand her care, meet people and engage in the community. They ultimately forced her into memory care too soon where she was locked on the floor and left to sit either alone in her room or parked in front a TV. All she wanted was to continue to engage with people and use her mind and they could not provide that basic care. After several months of rapid decline in memory care the staff kept referring to her as psychotic even though all of her doctors at Northwestern repeatedly agreed that her symptoms were all related to her dementia. The Admiral went against my wishes and had her sent to Saint Mary's Hospital (outside of her network of doctors at NW) where she spent 3 nights alone in the ER and then was involuntary committed to the psychiatric ward where she spent 2 weeks completely catatonic. She never recovered. I was able to finally get her released through no help of the Admiral and had her moved to The Artis Lakeview where she received excellent care alongside Bristol hospice for the last 1.5 weeks of her life. The Admiral may appear on a tour as it did to us a lovely lakeside facility, but when your loved ones actually need real care towards the end of their disease they will accelerate the decline and refuse to provide the grueling care many people need in the last stages of dementia. Do yourself a favor and ask to tour the memory care floor before you move your loved one here. Really look at how the residents are cared for and ask how they stay engaged. It's a tiny floor and you will find them all staring blankly at a TV or hiding in their rooms.
