My son told us that he and his girlfriend think these tacos are better than our favorite spot for street tacos in KC. I have to say, I agree! These were the best carne asada tacos I have had. We preferred the green sauce, but the red was good, too. I'd be here once a week if I lived in the area. It was very busy at 1:30 on a Saturday. The food was great!! It was hard to find but it was worth it it Was able to get in out even though it was busy!

The food here was very good. I got tacos with a side of beans and rice. The service was very slow however. It took 40 minutes for me to get my food to go. I walked in and was not warned it would take that long. The restaurant has a hole in the wall feel to it. Not a ton of sitting room but you could eat there if you would like. I was between a 3 and 4 for this review. The service speed and the expensive price weighed in negatively for me. I may return someday not in a huge rush to go back however. read more

My real intention was to go to tropical cafe and get a smoothie and stumbled upon med mex cafe. So I decided to give it a shot as I was intrigued that it was Mediterranean and Mexican cuisine. I was traveling with colleagues back to St. Louis from a conference in Kansas City. It was getting late, and Matt, riding shotgun, googled and found the Med Mex Cafe. It seemed slow at first, but no one seemed concerned or bothered. We discovered the reason people waited patiently was the outstanding delicious food. I looked on Yelp for places near I-70 in Columbia as my dad drove my fiancé and I between St. Louis and Kansas City. I went on Yelp and thought this place looked most appealing so we decided to eat here. My fiancé and I shared a guarache (kind of an open faced taco) and gyro burrito and my dad had a shawarma platter. We also had refillable soft drinks. Everything was quite delicious and I love the concept of a Mexican and Mediterranean fusion place. The service was also friendly and fast. The food is very affordable also. My fiancé and dad thought it was 4.5 right where I was rating and I thought it was a 4. The only thing not giving this place five stars, is the higher quality Mediterranean and Mexican places where we have near us in the DC area. Saw this when driving by and decided to check it out next time we got the chance. WE LOVED IT! Doesn't look like much when you walk in and the menu is pretty to-the-point but you shouldn't pass this place up. The owner talked us through the menu and gave us some great suggestions (Baba plate, Gyro w/ lamb, Asada taco, and Adobada taco). It came out super quick. Great flavors on everything. Usually this place is VERY GOOD. Yesterday (2 Apr 2024) we ordered two 3 taco plates with sides of rice and beans. We did carry out. When we got home we noticed hardly any refried beans in the carry out carton (both carry out cartons). This seems like a simlple affair. Whoever loaded the trays wasn't paying attention or frankly didn't care. I mean, there was less than an 1/8" of an inch of refried beans in the bottom of the tray with a small spot of cheese for appearance purposes. Normally I would rate this place a 5 but not this time. If you're craving mexican food, this is the place to be. Their combination torta, as well as their street tacos are well-seasoned, in generous portions and overall amazing. While the combination of mediterranean food with mexican food seems like a set-up for one half of the menu to be superior over the other, the incorporation of both types of cuisines is well-done. While I would say the mexican side is stronger (which is inevitable as the ownership is mexican) the hummus plate with the shawarma and the babaghanouj are excellent. This place is really good with the exception that they are cheap in regards to their salsa. I ordered 10 tacos and they only gave me 4 salsas and acted like it was a big deal that they gave me that many and it's .50 for extra salsa which comes in a very small container. Tried out this place last week. It is in the former location of Oasis Cafe with new ownership that have added Mexican food options to the previous Mediterranean menu, hence the name Med Mex. I opted for the gyro and hummus plate which had a generous portion of each that was prepared well and tasty. The decor is simple but worth a visit for the quality of food.
