Bought a pair of pants online and returned them due to poor quality and they wouldn't give a refund. Only a gift card. Pretty poor customer service and policy for a business that boasts a "Rock Solid" guarantee. Not sure what their version of that is, but they are the only retailer I know of that gives gift cards instead of refunds. Would give Zero Sta4s if possible. That's my last time doing business there after 25 yea4s of loyalty.

This place scares the living bejesus out of me. Multiple floors packed to the brim with products each with their own horror story of outdoor activity and survival? Not. My. Jam. Am I glad to know that canteens exist to keep one hydrated over the course of several days hiking in mountain ranges? Absolutely. Do I need them in my life? HELLS NO. Still, this mammoth store in downtown Halifax does serve a purpose in my life. Sort of. On the off chance that I need to pick up a gift for that outdoorsy type who has against all odds for his or herself within my social circle, I would go here. If you've got the budget to blow on a premium product, the bravery to plunge into a world of physical activity, and the patience to figure out what all the different things are, then you will no doubt leave successful. My favourite part? They just painted the entire exterior green and it looks all kinds of awesome.

I'm not particularly "sporty," but, like most Haligonians, I learned early on that fleece is an invaluable fashion accessory in this town. MEC is a good place to find all things fleece. And all things Smartwool. And all things that use the word "wick" to describe what they do with your perspiration. An indispensable shop, really, for the outdoorsy crowd, and we all know there are a lot of you here on the east coast. Things are perhaps a little pricey, but everything in the store is of the highest quality, and honestly, who feels like skimping when it comes to keeping your dangly bits warm?

Mountain Equipment Co-op is a the store to go to for the outdoor enthusiasts. A co-worker was going away and wanted to take a gift for her host. She thought of a back pac from MEC, since they were going to being seeing the Ruins. I have to say, I have never seen a larger selection of bags ever. This is my downfall, I love all different bags. You really do need a variety of them. We found the one for about $60.00. It will be perfect for the day trips they will be taking. Excellent quality here an prices were reasonable. I like what the Mountain Co-op has done , being a member for $5.00, and the fact that they donate 1% off all sales to support Canadian Environmental Causes.

I stuck to the main floor with the clothes, though they do have a second floor with bigger items like tents. I love the set up of the store, though it doesn't seem very friendly for folks who aren't able-bodied with the stairs right at the front entrance. Not super great. The product selection is pretty good, with tons of backpacks and water bottles greeting you as you walk up the stairs to the main floor. The clothing is split between men and women and they seemed to have some pretty decent sales going on. Not going to lie though, I was drawn to the huge selection of socks. A bit weird? Maybe. But there's something so wonderful about a great pair of socks, y'know? Anyway, the Trail Shop is a great independently owned sporting good stores, and if you're in the area I highly recommend checking it out. The staff are friendly and happy to help if you have questions, or to leave you alone if you just want to look around.

I am from Vancouver Island, one of the Meccas for Fly Fishing and while here my plan is to use some of my spare time productively tying some flies. For those that know fly tying know that it is a bottomless pit of materials, tools, and equipment when it comes to the hobby. This place has a large dedicated section of both flies, fly tying materials/equipment/tools/etc as well as fly fishing rods, reels, clothing and other accessories. I'd say a one stop shop for sure. The guys that work there are both very friendly and helpful, more than willing to help with some advice or recommendations on fly tying materials or colours, etc. The pricing is on par with any other fly fishing store so no complaints there. The only very minor complaint is that they are slow to restock some tying materials, but what they do have in stock is more than enough to satisfy me. Good source of Hardy and other high end reel makers as well so you can go drool over those as well. Their hours are good. Open Mon-Sat 9-6 mon-fri and 9-5 on sat. I've been in the store 3 times in less than a week lol and will be in countless more times in the coming months before I head back west to put my hard work to good use.

Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. Gave me great advice as I'm new to the area. Led me to…read morecatch some good fish! Prices are a bit on the higher end but they carry a unique variety of products that are locally productive and hard to find elsewhere. I'll be back!

The Running Room's staff members are available for theorizing about proper shoes. They will assess your gait, determine whether you pronate, listen to your concerns and then suggest a couple of pairs that will serve your purpose. They are very open to suggestions and are experts in running (and walking!) and the various needs associated with it. The front of the store offers running/walking gear: pants, shirts, camelbacks, hats, socks - the Running Room can suit you up for any requirement. I've even seen jogging strollers in the front window - trust me, when you need one they can be hard to find. The store also runs clinics, from learn-to-run courses to running groups. They sponsor several races a year and always provide a prep course in advance of the big day. If you're like me, sneakers just aren't your forte. That's why it's important to go to a knowledgeable provider like the Running Room. I've bought my last two pairs of sneakers from them, and anticipate returning for another pair this year. Expect to pay for what you get, though: the Running Room's prices reflect the quality of the product they provide.
