I know that this location is one of the smaller ones and thus does not always have a large selection, however, one never knows. I ended up finding some shoes that I liked, however, I was not wearing socks that day so it was difficult to tell how they actually fit. The employee was not at all helpful other than to tell me that they had a sale on apparel as well so I could buy some socks. I did end up opening a package of socks as I needed shoes but was not wanting to buy them without trying them on properly. I asked if I had to buy two pairs of socks to take advantage on the Buy 1 get the 2nd half off and he said that I could mix it with whatever apparel I wanted. The sign actually advertised that you received the lower priced item at full price and the second at half......I questioned this as it sounded too good to be true and was told by the salesgirl that this was in fact the deal, great! Upon presenting myself at the cash however, this was a whole different deal. When I questioned the ringing up of the items, I was bombarded by three male employees, all very rudely telling me that it was the more expensive one that was full price. When I pointed out the sign, the older man, presumably the manager ( nobody introduced themselves), took the sign down to bring over to the cash and proceeded to tell me in the most rude manner "Feel free to write head office and you can also take a picture of this sign" and then walked away. When I mentioned that the sales girl (who was standing right at the cash as well) had confirmed my understanding of the sign, she simply bowed her head and walked off...... I proceeded to write head office, having to look up their contact information as the cashier would not provide me with anything. I have now re-sent my email three times in two weeks and have yet to receive any response whatsoever. I have NEVER been treated with such disrespect in any store and certainly not by management as I was at Cleve's!! You can be sure that I will NOT ever recommend anyone to this store and nor will I ever be frequenting it again! Save your money and go to Sport Chek at Dartmouth Crossing where they know how to treat their customers!!

Soon I am sure I will return to this store to get yet another couple helmet's when required by law to wear one while driving and walking. The best advice I can offer anyone is do not call them just go over. I called twice yesterday and all I got was hang-ups? A CLICK and then the pause and dial tone again. I called another location of the same store and got them to check to see what was on sale and in stock etc... The guy told me at the other location that they never answer the phone when I told him about the hang ups. Showing up at the store as it was last time I visited was a good experience. Lots of helmets to choose from for average size heads. I always have trouble with the fit for mine as I need something large very large. I ended up buying one. Wearing it around the house etc... To see how it fits. This store has or at least yesterday an army of sales people walking the floor. The store called this weekend black Friday sales. It was save the tax across the whole store with a few better sales for certain items. I would return here as the prices are reasonable and the sales staff are helpful. If you find the service was good don't forget to get the sales person's name because they will ask you at the cash who helped you and that person will get commission. Just don't call the store before going over unless you like hang-ups or whatever that is? I don't know of an answering service that hangs up in the callers ear?

I'm here to talk about running shoes and my experience at the Halifax Shopping Centre Sport Chek. I'm about to run my first marathon (Crazy yes, but oh so needed for this life changing journey) and for the past couple of weeks I've been on the hunt for a new pair of Saucony running shoes (I'm a die hard fan). After being sorely disappointed in Aerobics first (another review possibly?) and Amazon I turned to the clearance blow-out by Cleve's and found a nice pair of running shoes... The only problem? They didn't "POP". This is going to be my first marathon people. Everything needs to look good, feel good and hey did I mention looking good? Meegan and I happen to stop in at another Sport Chek location earlier this week looking for a new running shirt (remember I need to look good while running 42km). They were having a buy one get one half off sale on shoes... We just looked... A day later we found ourselves at the Halifax Centre location with the intent of purchasing not only another pair of Saucony running shoes for me but another pair of athletic shoes for her. There was only one guy working in the shoe department - Jacob. The review is more about him than anything else. After spending a lot of time in the major "running" stores in the area he is by far the most helpful person I've encountered and he's not even a runner (hockey knees!). For someone that doesn't run he has quite the knowledge background and took the time to explain to me all this new talk about 4mm drop (it's a running thing) and about the difference between a stability / neutral/ minimal shoe. At the other "running" stores I sort of got the evil eye for not knowing all the technical terms (I just run...) He spent quite a bit of time going back and forth between shoes for Meegan and me. In the end we both walked away with a pair of shoes that we fell in love with. The store itself was ginormous. Chock full of all kinds of sports equipment and a pretty large clearance section in the middle (I do love a good clearance section). If you get a chance head to the back where the athletic shoes, look for Jacob and try on a pair of Sauconys!

Most of the boots seemed to have a lot of the crocodile skin look in flashy colours. And other than boots, it was mostly strappy, open-toed heals, some of which still had the croc skin look. Not that I have anything against that look, some people can really pull it off. But it's not for me. The shoe pricing was still pretty expensive, even though there was a %50 off sale. I couldn't imagine seeing the actually cost of those shoes. I'm probably just jealous that I can't afford them though. I guess a lot of people can because the store was pretty full of women. In fact, there wasn't an open seat to try anything on because there were so many people in there. There was one really nice salesguy that I encountered. I was looking at some flats and he came over and told me that most of them had a built-in gel cushions or insoles. He took a moment to show me what he meant, then smiled and walked to someone else. I loved that he didn't stick around by my side and shop with me, much like some other salespeople might. It was just a nice experience that I thought I'd share with you.

Stock is well displayed, and unlike the Halifax store, there are not copious amounts of shoeboxes within the displays or on the floor, which helps elevate the look and feel of the store. Staffing was sparse on my last visit, which was arguably at a lower traffic time. The one clerk was doing a good job of balancing the customers in the store, and helped me find the pair I was looking for. I think that the online store for SoftMoc is a great compliment to the offline stores, because you can check availability online and also order and get in-store pick up. I tend to do my research ahead if I know exactly what I want. SoftMoc carries dependable brands like Hunter, Clarks, Ugg, Keds and many more - good quality, good price.
