We have had our furniture stored here for 2 years. This morning, March 6,2026, we stopped by to pick up a few items and discover our climate controlled unit cover in mouse droppings. This was not a couple of droppings in the corner, the entire floor, the tops of boxes, inside containers were all covered in mouse droppings. I reported it to the office attendant. He said they would sweep it up and set out a couple of traps. He was very unsympathetic or caring about our situation. We have three king size mattresses and box springs, numerous items of bedding, towels and other fabrics in the unit. They obviously covered themselves in the contract, but at least give a damn about our situation. $300 a month for two years and they will do nothing for us. We purchased insurance, but everything will be prorated and we will get very little compensation. When we ask to speak to a supervisor, the kid on the phone says" I am the supervisor". With our unit being infested, I'm pretty sure there are multiple units also infested as well. If you have items stored at Meathead, I would suggest you go inspect it. We are extremely disappointed with Meatheads attitude toward this issue, their unwillingness to contact anyone higher up, and basically their "we are not responsible" attitude. I'm sure this can happen at any storage facility, but for Christ's sake, at least act like you care. read more

Stored some furniture a few months ago for only 60 days in one of their outside units and needless to say it was a disaster! Day of pickup was awful! All of our furniture was destroyed by rodents! Rat and mice droppings and furniture is ripped and nested in! Had to take them to court and they said sorry you signed the agreement that says we're not responsible for any rodents etc. do not do not store anything at this place! They don't take their business seriously! They have no problem taking the monthly fees without making sure they're providing a clean environment for all your personal items. read more

After 5 years moved out of CA having checked on the unit 1077 a few times. Preparing to load on 4/9/2026 I found mice nesting in a pot on 4/8/2026. Three blankets chewed on 3 pots in the back of my 10x19 unit on 1st floor in the climate controlled storage in SLO. Nest was a mom and 3 little ones that I dumped outside and Kyle took the blankets and one of the babies - no call back from anyone. Deer mice carry disease. No food in my unit and you can tell they may have just moved in this spring. Got the whole story how they cannot prevent mice, people bring in food yada yada but had called in the past and they said only once were mice due to food. DO NOT BELIEVE them. Never had mice in a house, garage or plenty of other storage units in the past including non climate controlled ones. Was called a Liar by the storage manager and was told I should have had their insurance. Wow at the same time they are pinging me to pay for referrals. I paid 447 per month. Aaron Steel please walk these hallways that once were swept and clean and get a good exterminator. MICE are in the climate controlled area and by your staff response they are no taking people's belonging and money seriously. I had to store my household furniture for over 5 months while waiting for my new house. Meathead movers did a great job packing and moving my furniture and Meathead storage was very accommodating in setting me up for the storage I needed on a days notice. DO NOT USE MEATHEAD MINI STORAGE. THEY HAVE A HUGE MOUSE PROBLEM. I put my stuff in storage here two months ago, came back today to find that my stuff is COVERED in mouse poop. I saw three mice in my small unit. Two months ago, when I moved in, this unit was clean, and absolutely no food was in my unit. My mattress, dress, bed frame, all of my belongings are now covered in mouse poop. I asked them for answers and the storage manager Hugh, claimed there was nothing he can do. I asked where I am supposed to sleep tonight as my mattress is now covered in mouse poop and I can't move in, and he was unbelievable inconsiderate. I paid $107 a month for unit, holding thousands of dollars worth of stuff and now I have to throw everything out with no sign of compensation from the company, not even for the cost of just the unit. The mice poop is so bad you could smell it before even opening the unit. These photos don't even do the poop justice as there were piles everywhere that I unfortunately couldn't even get photos of because I ran out after seeing the mice. Hugh said this is an ongoing issue they are having yet I was never contacted or told that this is something the units are dealing with. Disappointed doesn't even describe it. If you don't want to have mouse poop all over everything you own, don't use this place. My roommates stored their stuff at SLO Storage and there were no issues, so I suggest looking into a different place. read more

I reserved a unit and then it was given away and not available when I showed up. I had repeatedly tried to contact the staff to confirm how long the reservation was valid but nobody picked up the phone. After no responses to multiple emails, I finally spoke to someone who assured me that my reservation had been extended. However, when I showed up, I was told that they had overbooked themselves and had given away my unit. They offered me a unit which was twice as large as I needed but would not honor the original price. Terrible experience... avoid. read more

Infested with rodents, numerous holes chewed through boxes and rug, excrement on everything. When I brought it to their attention, they threw in laxatives so then there was also rodent diarrhea to clean off my furniture. When I moved out, all the manager offered was a weak apology. To keep this short and to the point, Meathead will cancel your contract minutes before move-in. Even if your car is packed and ready. We signed a physical contract on May 2, gave a deposit, and was noted to move in June 12. The morning of June 12, we called to say we are in the way and someone who had their car ready for move in is coming for the keys. Ethan then calls back and says, "Sorry we don't have you 5x10 unit anymore, contract changed on June 1st." Blatant lie. After hours and even a couple days of getting to the root of the problem, the truth comes out. They rent on a first come/first serve basis. So even if you have a contract in hand, with date, with a deposit down, they will kick you to the curb if someone else comes in the day before and wants your unit. They are dishonest, disloyal and could not care less about people. Only about money. Saddening. Just know there are other storage facilities out there who do care so please explore those. Meathead Mini Storage is easily the nicest storage facility in San Luis Obispo. They've got great security and surveillance for their units (the movers literally patrol the storage during daily hours). They're a little bit more pricey than other storage facilities in town, but they're well worth the price if you care about the safety of your items and are even sometimes willing to price match. read more

Meatheads is the only storage facility nearby that I trust. It's a vibrant and energetic storage place (is that even possible?) possibly because they like to recruit young college students or recent grads to run the facility. Besides the brawn, they have built a trustworthy brand. They've always been reasonable and friendly and don't have hidden fees or certain rules when wanting to leave. It's on a true month by month basis and one may receive a refund if there is still some months left over. It's always been clean, secure, and temperature monitored. There's plenty of parking and carts with a spacious elevator if you are located on the second floor or if you outgrow your space or need to downsize, they are accommodating to relocate you to another unit. After we sold our place in Shell Beach, we needed to quickly move out and Meatheads was a great way to move everything out quickly without feeling rushed to relocate. If you need a clean, secure, and uplifting storage facility, this is the place. read more

I work in a Homeless Program and was trying to get a storage unit for a client. The first person we talked to was very friendly and very helpful. She got my client's information and then told us she'd be right back. After a few minutes she returned with another person, who asked my client for his mailing address. He told her it was 40 Prado, San Luis Obispo. She replied that she needded a permanent mailing address. We told her that that is where he is a staying and receiving his mail. She told us he needed a different mailing address and when he attempted to give her another mailing address where he could receive mail, but she said that she knows 40 Prado is temporary housing and "knows you are stayIng there so we will need a different mailing address" . We asked if he had a PO Box would that be ok? She said no that it wouldn't make difference - because they need a permanent address. What the heck?? My client IS staying there and that is where he IS getting his mail! To discriminate against a person because he is living in homeless shelter is wrong and really it surprises me with this business . My program supports our clients with getting a storage unit and pays for at least 3 months- while they are homeless so they have some place safe for their belongings until they get permanent housing. What a disappointment for a business that supports this community. read more
