    Crab Roll (seasonal)
    Keri S.

Our whale watching tour got cancelled, so we had some free time in the afternoon. We decided to take a detour off the Cabot Trail up to Meat Cove to the chowder hut. Luckily they had ice cold beer because we were tired from a few trails that morning. I had the crab roll which is seasonal, while my husband had the chowder. His bowl was filled with big chunks of seafood... fish, scallops, shrimp to name a few. My crab roll was lightly dressed and really delicious. The fries were alright, but we all know who the true star is here. The view from the patio is beautiful, just like all of Cape Breton. It was a great little detour from the Cabot Trail and a nice spot to relax and refuel after some hiking in the park!

One of my favourite places in our Cape Breton trip. Came for a late lunch after hiking the mountain trail. We shared the fish & chips (haddock) and mussels (fresh locally) and it was absolutely delicious. Fries were perfectly cooked and spiced, the mussels were some of the best I've had. Also amazing views of the coast and such friendly people. A+++

Chowdah.... the chowder is amazing. A must try when you visit meat cove in Nova Scotia

Honestly the best lobster roll I have ever had. They have fresh, VERY fresh chilled lobster meat with some fixings added to a toasted bread roll, it was just superb. The view is absolutely unbeatable. It is the very top of Cape Breton (as far to the tip as you can drive anyway), and it really does feel like the edge of the world. There's also a beach for swimming near by accessible by a small path. The water was clean, the beach is pebble rocks though. If you're a rock stacker it will appeal though. A must do stop for those visiting the cape. It is fairly cheap but great quality, a far cry from some of the tourist traps you see along the way. As a side note, the family that runs the restaurant and campground is exceedingly nice. It was getting last and we pulled up when they were out of camp grounds. They were very kind and accommodated us with a campground on the hill further up for 10 dollars. It wasn't flat, but we were grateful not to have to drive back the dirt path in the dark. However a couple just after us got turned away since there was simply no more room. This isn't an open field with people littered about the grass, the campsites are carved into the mountainside over looking the cove. It seems to be very popular. Not a good place for RV's. I am thankful for that though as I find them annoying. There were no generator running either, which kept the view feeling very serene.

Decent fish and chips here. Crispy outside with excellent fresh haddock. Good lemony tartar sauce Chowder looked good but didn't try it. Fries were a tad soggy but decent. Ample portion and the tbsp of cole slaw was tasty. Not bad for the tip top end of the road on the island!

    A Really Nice place

While eating some of the best seafood around you get a view like no other. If you are done trailing the Cabot trail for the day get a camping spot for the night.

The seafood chowder was amazing and delicious. To get there, it is a little treacherous but worth it. The view is gorgeous as well. The only issue was as I was eating the soup, black flies kept biting me. Bring bug spray.

After a bowl a bowl of chowder take a hike up to the top of the mountain for a 360 degree view.

We chose this restaurant based on the location of our hotel, keep in mind there aren't many options around. I think this was also the reason this restaurant was busy! The grilled scallop burger was the best dish of the night! The seafood platter was mediocre, nothing special. It had calamari, fries, shrimp, oysters, and haddock... maybe more? I can't recall. The clam chowder was not it. It wasn't creamy like the clam chowder I'm used to and was the worst dish of the night. The biscuit was okay, not buttery enough in my opinion. The lobster roll was mediocre. It was my first time trying lobster rolls and my expectations were way higher as many people love them! I'm not sure if it's because there wasn't enough sauce or the sauce just wasn't that tasty. We also subbed the fries for a caesar salad and were charged the price of an extra caesar salad ($9) rather than just an added substitute price. The milkshakes were great! The vanilla milkshake tasted like french vanilla ice cream and the strawberry milkshake was also really good. A bit small for the price. Overall, wouldn't visit again. The view is great though!
