I was never a chowder person but this restaurant made me a chowder person. It was so good, creamy, and comforting, and soothing. So delicious. Adam got the fish and chips and it was good but not enough tartar sauce was given and they fried it in a way that was meh (the fish wouldn't stay inside the fried case). I highly recommend coming here and eating a nice bowl of chowder while admiring the views. read more

Omg the chowder is the best I've ever had, 5-star for sure! The rest (see pictures) was 4 star for the fish, crab cakes, mussels, scallops, and clams. The view from the terrace bumps this restaurant from 4 to 5 stars. Quiet, scenic, and crazy memorable. Next time I'm back to Cape Breton I am coming back for sure. Our whale watching tour got cancelled, so we had some free time in the afternoon. We decided to take a detour off the Cabot Trail up to Meat Cove to the chowder hut. Luckily they had ice cold beer because we were tired from a few trails that morning. I had the crab roll which is seasonal, while my husband had the chowder. His bowl was filled with big chunks of seafood... fish, scallops, shrimp to name a few. My crab roll was lightly dressed and really delicious. The fries were alright, but we all know who the true star is here. The view from the patio is beautiful, just like all of Cape Breton. It was a great little detour from the Cabot Trail and a nice spot to relax and refuel after some hiking in the park! read more

One of my favourite places in our Cape Breton trip. Came for a late lunch after hiking the mountain trail. We shared the fish & chips (haddock) and mussels (fresh locally) and it was absolutely delicious. Fries were perfectly cooked and spiced, the mussels were some of the best I've had. We were referred here by our B&B host when they heard we planned on visiting Meat Cove. So glad they told us about it. Once called Meat Cove Family Restaurant, they have upgraded the building and added a nice deck overlooking the water and hills. Absolutely a nice spot to relax if the weather is good. We both had the fish and chips (I substituted onion rings) and were delighted. Very good. We also had an Oland Export beer with our meal. Highly recommended. Bottom line? This is a nice spot to relax while visiting the area. read more

Honestly the best lobster roll I have ever had. They have fresh, VERY fresh chilled lobster meat with some fixings added to a toasted bread roll, it was just superb. The view is absolutely unbeatable. It is the very top of Cape Breton (as far to the tip as you can drive anyway), and it really does feel like the edge of the world. There's also a beach for swimming near by accessible by a small path. The water was clean, the beach is pebble rocks though. If you're a rock stacker it will appeal though. A must do stop for those visiting the cape. It is fairly cheap but great quality, a far cry from some of the tourist traps you see along the way. As a side note, the family that runs the restaurant and campground is exceedingly nice. It was getting last and we pulled up when they were out of camp grounds. They were very kind and accommodated us with a campground on the hill further up for 10 dollars. It wasn't flat, but we were grateful not to have to drive back the dirt path in the dark. However a couple just after us got turned away since there was simply no more room. This isn't an open field with people littered about the grass, the campsites are carved into the mountainside over looking the cove. It seems to be very popular. Not a good place for RV's. I am thankful for that though as I find them annoying. There were no generator running either, which kept the view feeling very serene. read more

You need to know that it's only open Wed--Sunday. 8 miles of gravel road and 15 miles of fairly crappy paved road. Yes, beautiful cove, but so are all the rest you passed to get there. This is Sat, so no chowder for us. 2 stars anyway. Great view. read more

Decent fish and chips here. Crispy outside with excellent fresh haddock. Good lemony tartar sauce Chowder looked good but didn't try it. Fries were a tad soggy but decent. Ample portion and the tbsp of cole slaw was tasty. Not bad for the tip top end of the road on the island! read more

The building is brand new and the service and staff are warm and wonderful. The chowder is the best I've had on this maritime trip and the lobster was prepared well. They actually supplied all of the utensils I needed. Bottled beer and soft drinks only. A little off road I g on the way but what can I say. Had no problem in my focus that I tow and roads in this neck of the woods are over rated. Casual attire is best in the summer read more

The gravel road literally ends at this restaurant; beyond are just foot trails. After a long, winding drive it is so nice to end up at this oasis. Walking down to the nearby Meat Cove beach was lovely. We were jealous of the people staying here in the cabins. The food at the restaurant was really outstanding. The chowder was delicious (packed with an assortment of lobster, mussels and white fish) and the lobster rolls may be the best I've ever had--toasted buns, generous chunks of lobster. A friend ordered the fish cakes with beans. This was also hearty and yummy. We dined outside at a picnic bench with our dog, gazing out over a stunning view. read more

Wow! A stunning location at the end of a mildly adventurous winding, coastal dirt road helps, to be sure. But if this place were down a dark alley in a bad neighborhood I'd still recommend it. Mussels in white wine with garlic were as good as fresh, local mussels can possibly get and fish cakes were ethereal. Fish cakes -- I expected solid, stick-to-your-ribs comfort food. They were comforting, to be sure, and included some sort of kitchen magic that made them light, wonderfully textured, and subtly oniony. A bottled beer (sadly no draft) and a picnic table outdoors with an insanely dramatic view helped rank this among of the best of many fine meals we had in Nova Scotia.
