Dr. Villalobos is great. My review is based on cost. If you are out of network or need a crown and are on a budget, find another dentist. I was charged $385 for a cleaning and X-Rays. I was not informed of the cost before hand, so I was obliged to pay for a service I couldn't afford. They just assumed because I live on the island I could afford such an outrageous price. Their charges put me in a hole. Unfortunately, all the great dentistry in the world would not make me go back. Very unhappy with the cost. read more

I was referred to Dr. Meadows by a friend and was a new patient today. From the time I called the office for an appointment to the time I left the office was beyond exceptional. I had a Dental emergency and the office staff was so accommodating and got me in within 2 hours. Dr. Meadows herself was beyond caring and knowledgable. She was so gentle to the touch and I immediately felt she was the best dentist I have ever been to. I have always had male dentists and I will say it was night and day how gentle her touch was. Dr. Meadows was my dentist when I was growing up, in the late '90s. She's a nice person, but I switched dentists as soon as I got out of high school. I am prone to cavities, and she insisted that the ONLY good filling was the metal amalgam. She pushed very hard for it so I ended up with nearly a dozen metal fillings in all, many of them quite visible. Every dentist I've seen since then has cringed at my metal-mouth and told me that this attitude was very old school - modern white composite fillings are as good as, or better than, ugly amalgam. Plus, I'd really love to have been told about the whole mercury controversy before filling my mouth with that stuff. Also - and I find this to be totally unacceptable - this dentist tried to talk to me about going to church and Jesus while I was in the chair. This also happened to a family member (we are not Christian and our names reflect that). I don't care if she is an evangelical, but it's not appropriate to inquire if your patients have accepted Jesus and a Christian lifestyle while you've got a drill in their mouth. read more

The best dental experience EVER. I have been going to Dr. Meadows since 2014 and she and her staff are always friendly, upbeat and positive which makes a difference. For my semi-annual teeth cleanings, the dental technicians do a thorough job-very gentle but precise and make my teeth look they were whitened. Dr. Meadows and Dr. Villalobos take the time to explain everything. Dr. Meadows stayed late one evening to refill a cavity when it chipped during another procedure. After another visit, she followed up with me on the phone to ensure my teeth sensitivity had reduced after the procedure. Exactly what is the price tag to be a patient of Dr. Meadows? I want to share my awful experience with everyone, in hopes that my review is useful to others who are looking for a dentist in Coronado. I recently moved back to Coronado and was in search of a dentist. I was referred to Dr. Meadows and shortly after made my first appointment. I have never had any problems or issues with my teeth, other than heightened sensitivity and I have always had a dentist who has been accommodating to my situation. At the beginning of my appointment, I informed the dental hygienist of my sensitivity and she seemed to understand. As she began to clean my teeth I felt significant pain and requested that she numb my gums with a topical gel; a procedure that all my previous dentists have implemented successfully. I could tell she was annoyed upon my request as she said, "I understand this isn't pleasant for you, but how do you expect me to clean your teeth?" She continued, "I'm fully aware that your mouth is sensitive". She then applied the cold topical solution to the most sensitive areas of my teeth and didn't wait for the solution to start working before she continued her cleaning. I was trying so hard to sit still in excruciating pain. I'm not sure why anyone would continue to practice dentistry if they are so miserable doing their job, but they should consider retirement so that they don't continue abusing patients who are placing their trust in them. Having your teeth worked on with someone else's hands in your mouth is an intimate thing that requires patience and understanding from your dentist. Towards the end of the cleaning with the hygienist, Dr. Meadows came in to check my teeth and review my X-rays . She said I have perfect hygiene and no cavities, but I need to work on getting my teeth less sensitive. She recommended Sensodyne Pro Namel toothpaste, a less aggressive way to brush my teeth, and a topical paste to use at night. She also said I need to have a mouth guard made to limit grinding and help with sensitivity issues. Lastly, she said I should have nitrous oxide when I come in for my future cleanings to help relax me during the cleaning process. Now, I realize I may be sensitive, but never has anyone recommended nitrous oxide. Needless to say, I was willing to try all of the above. After my appointment, I immediately tried to schedule my future cleaning (6 months out) and the mouth guard appointment. I was informed by the receptionist that nitrous oxide is not covered by insurance. I decided to forego the nitrous oxide, as I didn't see the value in spending an extra $100.00 on something not entirely necessary (perhaps the hygienist could just let the topical gel do its magic). I was also informed that my insurance didn't cover the $380.00 mouth guard, which was disappointing. I told the receptionist I wanted to first discuss this with my husband and I would call back to make my appointment, as I considered the mouth guard important and necessary for the future health of my teeth. Less than two weeks after my appointment I received a letter in the mail from Dr. Meadows stating "that under no circumstance would she continue to be my dentist because I didn't follow her recommended treatment for sensitivity and dental phobia". Wow- I was dropped without a call or the courtesy of asking me if I was going to even try her "recommended treatments". I was absolutely shocked and can't believe how unprofessional this dentist is. If your dental needs are anywhere outside the tiny box that she operates in and you don't purchase her overpriced products immediately upon her recommendation, than Dr. Meadows is probably not for you. It would be nice for a dentist to work with you instead of run the other way as soon as she feels that you are not buying her dental products or you have a sensitive mouth. I would not recommend this dentist to my worst enemy. Dentists are supposed to overcome challenges with patients and their teeth to improve the situation. At no point should they "fire" you as their patient because you don't purchase uncovered products that they probably make a nice profit on. That's crazy! Basically, this woman was mad at me because I wouldn't spend the extra money, even though I had planned on doing so. Again, exactly what is the price tag to be a patient of Dr. Meadows? read more

Was referred by a few people for this dentist, but clearly a simple cleaning is out of the realm of possibility for them even though they have open appointment slots. When I first moved to Coronado, Dr. Meadows' patient roster was full and she was unable to take on any new patients. I was seen by another dentist but every six months before scheduling my next cleaning, I would call Dr. Meadows to see if there was an opening. My patience paid off and the countless recommendations proved to be true. Dr. Meadows' front office staff is kind and professional. Her hygienists are gentle and non judgmental (irregular floosers know what I mean). The bonus is Dr. Meadows herself. She deemed another dentist's previously recommended procedure (to the tune of $4,000+) unnecessary, squeezed my college student son in when he broke a tooth while home on break, and conducts a thoughtful thorough exam. AMAZING! I still can't believe it. No pain at all! Dr Meadows invested in the latest state of the art equipment for cleaning which uses only water to clean your gumline instead of the traditional painful cleaning tools. Then when I went back for a filling, the only minor discomfort was the numbing shot prior to finishing with beautiful white fillings. I have been in to this office to get my teeth cleaned 3 times. I don't have dental insurance so I pay about $100 to get my teeth cleaned. Tara who used to work there is amazing, always had the best experiences with her but since she left it was a totally different experience. When I was in yesterday during my cleaning I asked how much bonding a few of my teeth would be about because it was a thought in my mind. The woman said I'll grab Margaret to give you a better idea. Margaret Meadows came in and looked at my teeth. She didn't sit down or touch my mouth or anything other then ask me to smile and move my teeth back. Margaret told the woman to write down a few letters and hand them to the woman at the front desk. Margaret was in the room for no more than 3 minutes. Upon checkout I found out the bonding was way too expensive then what I heard it should be which isn't the problem. The problem is i got charged an extra $50 for the Margaret to "exam" me. I told the woman at the front that if I would have known that it was an extra fee I would have thought about it but she said that was their fault for not telling me before but there is nothing they could do. I told her it's not fair to do that and she went to talk to Margaret and Margaret said "it's an exam so what did she think was going to happen." I can tell you I didn't think it would be $50 to have her come in my room and ask me to smile for about 3 minutes and talking about bonding. read more

I called in the morning because the night previously I had broke my tooth. She saw me right away. The moment you walk into the office everyone is very friendly and makes you feel comfortable. Dr. Meadows let me know all of my options and what would be best and the least expensive. She is very straight forward and does not try to trap you into alot of extra dental work. She explains everything to you as she if going along. Not a big fan of going to the dentist, but if I have to Dr. Meadows is an excellent choice! read more
