After many years as a patient, this is where our story ends. Over the years, I overlooked how badly Dr. Purps treated her staff and talked down them. I ignored being surprised by $900 bills because I needed the work and could afford it. I ignored being blamed when the dental work I received needed revisions or failed because "I bite too hard". Our relationship ended when I showed up for an appointment and found out it was canceled. Instead of handling it with the attitude of "how can we fix this", I was met with, "we left you a message... we can't control ATT.... you are having an issue with your cell phone". After I left the office, Dr. Purps called me personally a few days later, not to try and fix the simple issue, but to insist that her staff left me a message and I was wrong. How dumb! How hard is it to say, "I'm so sorry; I have no idea what happened. Let's get you back on the schedule and fix this. It's ok to make a mistake, these things happen, and I respond well to accountability, but it's not ok to gaslight me. read more

As a health professional myself I am very impressed with care and attention I have received. You can tell the office staff cares about each their job and the patient experience. Dr. Purps has a unique and thorough approach that I've never seen before and very much appreciate. read more

Love this office & staff. It feels like home every time I visit & am greeted by Bev, assisted by Darren & treated by Dr. Purps. They are all so sweet & personable & truly caring experts in their field. They make a great team & their passion shows in their work every time I visit. Right now, I see them every couple of weeks for my Invisalign, but I also receive treatment for regular cleanings, whitening, night-guard/TMJ, & more! I recommend this practice to all my family, friends, neighbors & coworkers. This truly is the finest dentistry in all of San Diego & beyond! Thank you! :) read more

I first came to this office about three years ago. I was looking for someone that would treat my dental issues holistically. I had TMJ-related jaw pain, a filling that would not stay put, a blocked ear every time I flew in an airplane, and food getting stuck between my teeth. I was so glad I came here. Dr. Purps did an extremely thorough exam during my initial visit. I have never had such a thorough exam before. All of my amalgam fillings were old and needing to be replaced. I had multiple chipped teeth. However, my enamel was also cracking. I clenched my teeth at night while I slept. Dr. Purps suggested that my bite might be off and if we fixed that first, we could get my teeth to a place where I could once again love my smile. I wore a MAGO for about a year to stablized my jaw. After that, I had nearly all of my teeth crowned (they needed it). I also had one tooth extracted from the back that was not really functional anyway becuase I had one pulled on the bottoom for orthodontic work when I was a teenager. Besides loving my smile, I have experienced multiple improvements. I no longer have jaw pain, and my nightly clenching has significantly decreased. My right ear no longer stays plugged after flying. This is important because I travel a lot for work. It also used to be painful; that is all gone now. Lastly, I never realized that what I thought were tension headaches were actually related to my bite being out of proper position. I rarely get headaches anymore. I have recently started taking my teenage son to Dr. Purps. He finished with his orthodntic work and was still experiencing headaches. She had worked to improve his bite, and I have not heard him compain about a headache in weeks! He used to complain daily. I highly recommend this office to anyone that is lookingn to improve their overall health and wellbeing. read more

I just had my cleaning done and never always a great experience! Highly recommend this practice to everyone!

I can't say enough about Dr. Purps and her team. They are warm, welcoming, accommodating, articulate and professional. I have a long history of bioesthetic work and plenty of anxiety to go along with it. Dr. Purps did a thorough exam upon my first visit and explained every bit of it to me during our follow-up. After several appointments I've come to trust Dr. Purps, her work, and her recommendations. I can't say that I look forward to dentist appointments, but I do look forward to seeing the smiling faces at Fine Dentistry! I am so happy to have found Dr. Purps for my ongoing bioesthetic and routine dental needs. read more

My husband found Dr. Purps a few years ago when he was undergoing some extensive dental work (braces, implants, etc.). He went to several dentists before he found this one. He was very impressed and felt very comfortable working with her. This is saying a lot, because my husband has a lot of bad childhood experiences with dentists and therefore carries a big sachel of baggage about it and eyes up all dentists with skepticism and wariness. Dr. Purps won his heart that we started taking our two daughters there, too. The kids are only 3 years old and 4 years old, but Dr. Purps and her staff are so warm hearted and patient, I couldn't have asked for a better experience! I want to give special credit to the lady that runs the front desk, Patty, who makes my girls feel like little princesses every time we see her. She took the time to give the preschoolers a full tour of the office so they would feel comfortable, welcomed, and safe. And another big thumbs up to Ashley, the hygenist, for her magical powers of negotiation with getting my fraidy cat four year old into the chair for a cleaning! I didn't think it was going to happen, but Ashley won her over with patience and charm. Then, there's the shallow and vain side of me that adores her office design. It's really beautiful, very hip decor and layout. Everything seems designed to make you feel as ease and comfortable. Rounded walls, indirect lighting, soft sage green colors, river rocks, etc. Namaste, Dr. Purps! read more

After 3years of being a patient here, I can not say enough wonderful things about Dr. Purps and her staff/office! Friendly, professional, zen. It doesn't matter if I'm coming in for a cleaning or having work done, I leave here feeling relaxed and good about the experience. That says a lot for a dentist considering how unpleasant dental work can be! 5 stars, hands down. My husband and I are fans. If you're in the market for a new dentist, or don't love (LOVE!) your current... give Fine Dentistry/Dr. Purps a try :) (You can tell a lot about the care they give their patients just by looking at the personal design of their offices. Even down to personally designing the work stations for a relaxed feel- Dr. Purps goes the holistic route. No clinical bright lights or typical doctor feel here!) read more

Dr. Purps and her staff feel like family (and welcome me as such) each time I visit. Granted, I have had A LOT of dental work from her over the years, but from cleanings, to cavities, to bridges and everything beyond, I have received top-notch service and long-lasting, aesthetically superior dental work. Her ortho, endo and periodontal referrals are all A+ as well - what a great network she has of good (and truly likeable) people giving great service! (I know she works hard at cultivating the best circle, too!) I can't say enough good about the practice. I tell my friends about their "dental spa" atmosphere... when was the last time you walked into a dentist office that looked and smelled like an Aveda store? The nice touches include minty lip balm during your procedures so your lips don't dry out - imagine that!? The flowers, the music, the lighting, the great hand soap... all features that take the stress out of visiting the dentist. Yes, I actually look forward to my appointments. The best part is that Dr. Purps gives you a complete evaluation and a "plan" so that, even if you can't afford everything you ideally need, you can work towards it and trust her judgement in what can wait and what would benefit you now. I appreciate the one-on-one time she gives, and she allows me to be comfortable enough to let her know when I can't / won't do something she recommends (though rare.) There are no $$ surprises either; she is definitely a peer in MY dental health management. Thank you Dr. Purps for the kindness and generosity you showed me and my daughter in her time of need. It will always be remembered! :) You, Patty, Marsha and Lourdes ROCK!! read more

Dr. Purps and her entire staff are fantastic. From the moment I walk in the door, I feel like family. The office is beautifully decorated and feels warm and inviting; a very spa/ zen like environment. Everyone here loves what they do and it shows in their treatment of patients. I have been seeing Dr. Purps for a couple of years and have not had a bad experience yet. As a side note, I work at an endodontic office here in San Diego. When I was looking for my new dentist, I had the benefit of seeing the work of hundreds of dentists under a microscope. I did not take the decision of picking a dentist lightly. Dr. Purps work is as exceptional as her treatment of patients. She is a top notch dentist. read more

Dr. Sabine and her staff are wonderful! I am someone who is diligent about keeping up with my regular cleanings and immediately correcting any issues that arise. Dr. Sabine is the most comprehensive dentist I've ever been provided care by. Dr. Sabine is not only a great dentist but a wonderful teacher. She not thoroughly educates important details about the teeth and the clinical rational behind her recommendations. She is the first dentist to become laser focus on the possible cause of my grinding and offer a night guard that I can actually wear as I'm supposed to. Past night guards caused more discomfort and pain but the one she offers is comfortable enough where I wear it every night/all night and it resolves the problem. I can actually wake up in the morning without any teeth pain and don't dread having to wear it again. Dr. Sabine and her team are professional and warm. From the front desk staff to her dental hygienists, everyone welcomes you with a smile and engages with you as a human versus seeing you as just a number or dollar signs. Dr. Sabine have not tried to push unnecessary work hoping to make money. She provide comprehensive work and often recommends the least invasive or expensive option first. I truly appreciate that because it shows that she really is motivated by the overall health of your teeth versus dollars. I would absolutely recommend for anyone looking for a great dentist to schedule an appointment with Dr. Sabine. She's really good at what she does and has a great team of people there providing services. I can see myself continuing to work with this team for as long as I'm in the area. read more

I write this review with great disappointment and sadness. I went to see Dr Purps months ago for a crown that was not fitting correctly on my front tooth and it was causing me TMJ and discomfort. I didn't want a root canal as I am a alternative medical practitioner and was looking for a holistic approach. I was happy to have come across Dr Purps as she seemed caring and skilled. I thought we established a good professional relationship and I trusted her. I spent over fifteen hundred dollars on visits, Xrays and appliances she recommended to remedy the situation. After many months and attempts with minimal relief, she decided that the old crown needed to be removed and replaced. I was nervous and had many questions but I was ready to go ahead. The week before the procedure was to take place, I received an email from Dr Purps dismissing me as a patient because she "didn't feel we made a good fit" I was stunned and could not understand the reason for her sudden decision. I did not expect this from a professional. These are the kind of reasons one would give to an intimate relationship. She did not leave room for any further communication or resolution nor did she suggest another dentist to continue the work she had begun. I wrote her an email pleading with her to reconsider but her response was cold and insensitive. The endodontist who recommended Dr Purps tried to mediate but she callously refused. I didn't know what to do or who to go to and remedy this problem. I felt hurt, angry and ashamed at the way I was treated by this dentist. I feel Dr Purps has acted unprofessionally and unethically and has shown no compassion. After her abrupt dismissal, I was so distraught , that I stopped any treatment with anyone. The issue is still unresolved.and as a result of the TMJ I have recently developed tinnitus. read more

Strange I think that she felt a need to send me a letter telling me "I have not been satisfied with the quality of our professional relationship". I decided to cancel my $850.00 new patient exam. The answering machine to her office stated that I could not cancel by leaving a message for the office, so I called the emergency # & she answered. 1st impression of the office was the receptionist telling me that I had not sent in my new patient forms. I had. She said did you check the box? Did you press submit? She handed me an iPad to fill them out again. I told her that I had no idea how to do that. She told the assistant that I was refusing to fill them out. Then asst insisting that I sign that I received info I had not. Dentist stated bad yelp reviews were blackmail. Filling in roots of teeth would fall out. read more

It is with great disappointment that I post this review, but beware of this dentist. Dr Purps claims to have a holistic approach to dentistry though I'm not sure she knows what that means. I spent thousands of dollars for restorative work that she recommended, much for replacing and putting in crowns. One gold crown she replaced failed after a year and a half due to a cavity where the crown met the tooth. My new dentist's opinion was that food particles had gathered in the space where the crown met the tooth to cause the cavity. He contacted her to see what she might do to remedy the situation but she claimed no responsibility, accused me of poor hygiene, and was rude and unprofessional in her response to my requests to get her help to rectify the problem. I have proof that while seeing her she said I improved the condition of my teeth and gums 95%. In addition while seeing her a temporary crown came out. She had her receptionist tell me to put it back myself using toothpaste to secure it until I saw her. She couldn't take 10 minutes to have me stop by to have her or one off her assistants secure it for me. She put in two more crowns which have poor contours that lead to large pockets at those sights as explained to me by my new dentist. Before I left her she recommended work on another tooth. When I called to ask if it could wait a month until the new insurance term she said it couldn't wait. It was then I found a new dentist. That tooth did not need the work she had recommended. She was also negligent by not calling me when she said she would and has done the same with friends who see her. She seems to be more about the money she can get then about the well being of her patient. She put another crown in my mouth and when I saw it I told her it looked nothing like any tooth that I had in my mouth. She agreed and filed off a small amount from the top saying we would compromise. Not sure what kind of compromise was made. I trusted Dr. Purps to stand behind the work she did. Unfortunately, that was not the case. read more

I was looking for a new dentist for quite some time. The last one I went to I left within 10 minutes. It looked like the equipment has not been updated since '78. Dr. Sabine Purps office is state-of-the-art. She is very knowledgeable and keeps up on new procedures and equipment. I have been going there since 2007 and can only recommend her. The staff is also friendly. My husband even goes to her and he is not a big fan of dental work or cleanings. Two thumbs up! read more

A good family friend recommended Dr Purps as a great dentist and let me tell you they have to be a good friend for me to listen to anyone as far as the dentist goes. What a relief the rooms are clean and immaculate doesn't even smell like a dentist which helps. Dr Purps is great and it is so nice to be looking up into a beautiful face when getting ones teeth repaired than some 90 year old with nose hairs. I highly recommend this place to anyone who has the old memories of dentists in there heads and that is why they avoid them like the plague this is a completly refreshing experience. read more

Have you checked out the review for her last location? Now, maybe Dr. Purps has a beautiful office and professional website but it was obvious how she pays for everything: Up sell, up sell, up sell. I have moved to a new Dentist office that I absolutely love, love, love; Dr. Robert Bey. Dr. Marsh at this practice stated that I needed several fillings which my intuition told me why now? I was in for a crown 8 months before and they never mentioned it then, when I would've already had paid my deductible for dental work. In getting a 2nd opinion, Dr. Bey looked at my dental history and I have not had a filling in so long so I wouldn't really need another filling but sealants since the existing one's had worn out. But sealants cost less than filling, so this practice must really need the business. I also did not like the front desk. I asked 2 receptionists to talk to Dr Marsh to understand why fillings were recommended (after hearing it when I had other work that exhausted me) and Dr. Marsh was too busy at the time of my call and she never asked if she could call me back. But Sharon made sure she called to see if I still was coming in for a cleaning 2+ months later, after requesting to send xrays for a 2nd option. She did not offer to make sure I was clear on my questions. When a new receptionist called me to say they couldn't clean my teeth, in a few days, I asked to speak to Dr. Purps that owns the place. She never called. I gave it several months before posting this. My new dentist said that he would call back to make sure I got all my concerns answered, which is how it should be. I am aware Dr. Marsh, thru her assistant that Dr. Marsh was building her practice there and only working 3 days a week when started there. Guess they want to offer the more expensive service without looking at the full picture. The front desk knew I liked the hygienist I was with but they made my next appt. with another hygeniest without asking me who I preferred to see. All around, I was uncomfortable with the office. read more

Dr. Purps is in a class of her own. Highly trained yet remarkably down to earth and humble, she meticulously explains each step of her process so as to make the patient feel like a part of the team rather than a mouth in isolation being worked on. Dr. Purps fixed my chipped tooth and did a beautiful job. Her attention to detail as well as her perfectionistic and artistic execution is incredible and the end result was better than I had hoped. If you are searching for a dentist for the long term, look no further. Also given Dr. Purps' specialized interest in proper jaw positioning as a main factor in dental problems, as well as taking a holistic approach to dentistry that is typically not found in general dentistry, I would suggest becoming a patient as soon as possible as I foresee the possibility of her becoming increasingly specialized at some point in the future (in other words, she will be in even greater demand!). read more
