Other than those things she does all her own dressing, personal care, eating and is active in the community. The owner was Dan and the director was Tommi when she moved in. It was wonderful then. It was sold to Oxford Health Corp and the current director of the facility acts like he cares but then is unkind. The Director acts good to the residents when corporate comes to visit. He is very rude, disrespectful and condescending to my mother. The Villas is a less desirable place to live now compared to how it was. Making money and cutting programs, staff and the quality of the food is now the Corporations #1 priority, not the residents. The Receptionists, Activity Directors, Med Techs, direct care givers and Admin Assistant are wonderful people and really care about the residents. Although many of the caregivers are under trained and often short staffed so answering call buttons takes a long time. But that is the fault of their directors. Most of them are very kind, just not properly instructed. The food is not gourmet as they claim. They say they offer transportation but the bus is often broke down. The building, rooms and grounds are nice but if you have to share a room, due to financial reasons, be prepared for sharing a bathroom, refrigerator and to have competing noise with TVs, tablets, phone conversations and visitor conversations. The cost of the room is reasonable for all the amenities but if you need any kind of care the cost is ridiculous! So, why do we keep Mom there? Partly because she's 90 but mostly because she has built community with some of staff and residents and is willing to take the bad with the good!

My Father has been here almost 10 years and he loves it. My Mom was in two other Assisted Living…read morefacilities before she came here, one in Highland and one in Loma Linda. They both started out good but had a constant turnover in management which meant there was no stability of supervision of the staff working below them. There was many times the kitchens would run out of food for their residents, which was unbelievable. There would be no managers on call at night if a problem came up that I needed addressed. The Villas of San Bernardino is the shining star of Assisted Living facilities. Most of the management have been here many years, some over 18 years. With that stability in their management, the entire facility runs extremely smooth. There is always a manager on duty after hours that will answer your call. I cannot say enough good things about the Executive Director Kenya, Office Manager Yvette, Sales Manager Gladys, Activity Directors Janet and Courtney, Chef Ismael, Maintenance manager Juan, and all the caregivers and office support. My Mom was on hospice her last year here and was extremely well cared for by her caregivers. My Father in Law was here 15 years ago and many members of my church were here as well. Don't make the mistake that I did by looking at any other facilities, the Villas IS THE BEST hands down for your loved ones, you won't be disappointed.

I would like to offer my assessment of Sunrise Senior Living here in Riverside. I speak with a good…read moreamount of experience since over the years Sunrise has provided care to, not one, not two, but three of my family members: father, mother and sister. The first was my father, who was admitted shortly after suffering a TIA. When Amy came out to the skilled nursing facility where he was recovering to interview him, he was understandably apprehensive but her professional presentation helped calm his fears. The registration and orientation process with Mary went smoothly and all our questions were addressed clearly. On his arrival at Sunrise, he was greeted at the door by three of the most compassionate caregivers you could imagine, and they patiently helped my father transition to his new accommodations. Throughout his stay, approximately one year till his passing, he was always afforded the attention he needed. I recall on one occasion when he needed a meeting with a couple of his old business associates, Sunrise reserved a private room for their use, complete with refreshments. It was a small gesture of respect but one that was appreciated. The scheduled physical activities sessions were great and my participation was encouraged. On the night my father suddenly took a turn for the worse and was taken to the hospital for the last time, the staff on duty helped me through the decision to call 911. In the case of my mother, she actually had two stays, once when she was recovering from a broken wrist after a fall at home and secondly when she was recovering from two shattered legs suffered due to negligence at, of all places, a skilled nursing facility here in Riverside, from which she never recovered. During her relatively short stay till her passing, Sunrise provided the upgraded level of care she required. In the case of my sister, she too was admitted to Sunrise, around the same time as my mother, for her own health issues which resulted in her passing 14 months after her mother. In fact, for a while, Sunrise accommodated both mother and sister in the same room at my request. The nurses on site always afforded my sister with an extra level of care, especially since she suffered from Multiple Sclerosis and other comorbidities. As with my parents, they were always available to me for consultations and recommendations. In addition, since my sister had frequent need of off-site medical appointments, the caregivers were always ready to aid in her preparation prior to her transport. Many of the same caregivers, nurses and staff who had worked with my father during his stay and were still there a few years later and so felt a certain special bond with my mother and sister as well. To this day I still maintain contact with some of them. The staff at Sunrise had always provided exemplary support for my family at critical times for which I am forever grateful. It's hard to imagine how I could have managed without them.

My friend recently went to the hospital. I received a call from the Case Worker from Kaiser who said she had tried twice to call Sunrise but the phone just rang and rang. She asked me if the number was correct. I checked my phone, and it was. This morning I had to call Sunrise myself. The phone rang about 15 times and no one answered. I called back a few minutes later, and Mary answered. I complained that no one had answered the phone, and she said she had just arrived for her workday. I asked who answered the phone when she wasn't there since the website says that Sunrise is available 24 hours per day. She didn't know. I would give Sunrise a one star for this egregious practice. I only haven't because of the good things it does.

I'd love to tell you how much the increase will be this time but after 7 calls, nobody can give us an answer. And that's just my first issue. My mother in law fell twice on October 31st and had to be transported to Kaiser. My husband and I had no clue any of this had happened until at 10:16pm when we received a call from the surgeon letting us know the surgery was a success. Nobody at the facility bothered to call us to let us know she was taken to the hospital around 9am. Shouldn't this be something that happens automatically? Or at least included with the level 1 care for $800 per month? Now, it's December and rent is due again and nobody has bothered to adjust for the $800 level 1 care my mother in law has not needed since she's been at a rehab center all month and still doesn't have a return date. How can you charge for something someone isn't using? Level 1 care includes medication management, not being used since the doctors at the rehab are doing this and housekeeping which is also not being done since she's not there. We also didn't appreciate my mother in laws bed (that she purchased with her own money) being thrown out because of a bed bug infestation of her roommate who has her own bedroom on the other side of the shared living room. It was replaced with a smaller bed from who knows where. The staff worker confirmed there were no bed bugs in her bed but he was still directed to remove her bed. I will say, my mother in law has had nothing but nice things to say about the floor staff. Clearly management is the problem. You can change your name and rebrand as many times as you want but at the end of the day this place will still be a mess.

She saw a neuropsychologist and after extensive testing was eventually diagnosed with major neurocognitive disorder (dementia) related to multiple factors. Her facility did not have a memory care unit and my wife and I had previously discussed moving her closer to us in Riverside County. I also wanted mom to live in a facility with a smaller number of residents and higher staff ratios than her large facility. My neighbor's late husband had resided at ICC some years ago and she was always pleased with his care in their memory care unit. After researching and doing some homework, we contacted Luz Rodriguez in ICC's marketing office. We met with Luz , discussed all our concerns and questions about whether ICC would be a good fit for my mom. Luz was wonderful and reassuring. From our initial meeting with her in late June, we assembled the required paperwork and necessary forms. A nurse from ICC went down to my mom's then-facility and assessed her as appropriate for their memory care unit. We moved my mom in on July 17th and met the caregiving staff and nurse assigned to her cottage. House manager Bernetta, LVN Daniel and assistant manager Paulina were all so welcoming and accommodating. Luz also was available to assist on a Saturday, and stayed even though we arrived much later than planned. Nurse Hazzel has also been diligent in communicating with mom's primary care physician about any medication changes and adjustments. Mom has been there about two months now and we couldn't be more pleased. She needs assistance with just about all her activities of daily living and staff are very responsive to her needs. Mom is kept clean and dressed appropriately. She is again getting her hair done regularly and even has polish on her nails! Our communication with staff whenever issues arise is first-rate. My wife and I visit unannounced regularly and are always welcomed and treated with respect. There have been some rough spots and anxious moments for my mom, but these have been handled promptly and professionally. Mom is still adjusting and getting used to this new place, routine and faces, but we remain confident that ICC will continue to meet her needs going forward.

You can tell they all take their jobs seriously and really care about the residents, I never worried about leaving my mom here, I knew she was in good hands. My mom passed away in December of 2024, the staff was helpful with the arrangements and comforting as well, we will always be forever grateful to the team at ICC, they are true everyday heroes that need more recognition for what they do.
