I reviewed the Grass Lake Rest Area originally on May 19 and on June 10 or so, Yelp merged it with another rest area review. I complained, they unmerged the two businesses but my review of Grass Lake seems to have gotten lost. Seriously, Yelp. Get your crap together.] Anyway, this rest area is westbound on I-94 between Ann Arbor and Battle Creek. I recall that the rest rooms were clean and the ramps to get off of the highway and back on were good. Smooth and straight. There is ample room for 20 or so trucks and at least 50 or so cars. The car parking area does not have any shade but there are some areas where you can get out of your car to picnic or walk dogs. Inside, there are maps of the local area and decent vending machines. The condition of these rest area varies quite a bit from state to state but in general they seem to be getting better overall. Grass Lake Rest Area popped up at the right time and place and we found that it was definitely following the general trend; it was clean, fully functional, and appeared to be well maintained. There were maps showing our location as we made our way across Michigan on our way to Chicago. Rest stops are especially convenient for times when you want easy off and easy on without complications of restaurants and traffic. Fortunately, good rest stops are becoming fairly common and dependable.

Pulling in, it looks like all the other rest stops in Michigan that I've been to, so nothing different here. But, I will say, this one was really clean and pretty! Plenty of flowers throughout, freshly cut grass and no garbage from what I could see. The bathrooms here are in pretty good shape, and they have a few vending machines in the lobby area if you need something to drink or snack on. What I really liked has they even had a coffee machine. Nice! Also, there's plenty of picnic tables and some charcoal bbqs if you need to stay for longer and make something to eat while on the road. They have courtesy dog runs as well if your pets need to get out and stretch their legs as well. Overall, a nice clean pit stop. Easy in, easy out.

Located just before you get to the Lansing area, it makes for perfect timing after traveling a ways from the Canadian border. The building is maintained to impeccable standards. It is newer and laid out well. Refreshments are available in the vending machines inside the building at either end. With ample parking on both sides of the building, easy access is afforded for all who stop. A word of warning to those who utilize the big-rig lot - as with most rest areas in the state, it fills up during the evening hours and you might find yourself scrambling to park along the sides. It is not unusual to see trucks stretched out along the exit and entrance ramps here. A great stop that I make here often.

Looks completely remodeled and so clean. There are changing stations in both the MEN and the women's bathrooms! Hallelujah--dads are parents too and should have access to clean and safe accommodations for their littles. There are also a fee family bathrooms! There are water bottle refill stations as well as traditional water fountains. And it's set up in such a way that you feel like you've exited into a peaceful little glen--there are trees that block the highway, a nice little field of grass and picnic benches. Usually rest stops are so shady and have a very distinct urine scent. But this seemed like a luxury rest stop. Seriously, I have never seen one in as quality condition with as much thought put into its design.

Unlike many of the original rest areas along interstate highways in the Midwest, this location is nestled up and away from the traffic as it passes by, providing a restful intermission from long distance travel. This rest area has one of the older style buildings in the state. Amenities include a pay phone, an outside spigot for water, rest room facilities inside the main building, and refreshments in a little outside vending area. The passenger vehicle parking area is ample, the truck and RV side not so much. Like most of the rest areas in Michigan, this facility is always well-maintained and is open 24 hours / 7 days a week.
