We own a condo in Kihei. We had just finished remodeling our condo when a flash flood deposited 4-5 inches of water and mud throughout our home. Our contractor was a blessing and worked over the next 48 hours to remove the standing water and much of the mud. I knew I still needed a remediator to finish the cleaning and prevent mold, so I called MD Restoration. Kale was at Home Depot getting supplies when I called the evening of the flood (Friday). He gave me some general information and asked if he could call me back when he was out of the store. He called back within 10 minutes. Kale gave me lots of information and said that he was going to handle cases in the order he received calls, so if I could find someone else who would get there sooner, go with them. He did not say it in a manner that suggested he did not want to help or did not want my business; he was being practical in a situation where time is of the essence and I appreciated that. Kale texted the next day (Saturday), reiterating that he was handling cases in the order of calls received. I asked him to please keep me on his list, which he acknowledged he would. Kale called the next day (Sunday) from my property and I gave him my door code. He entered the unit, then sent me photos of its current state, an explanation of the work that was needed, and when he could start. I passed the information on to my contractor, who agreed with the assessment and said that he and his team could do the needed demolition on Monday, so that when Kale's team got there they would just have to do the cleaning and drying. Kale's team started the cleaning and drying process on Tuesday. My contractor had done more cleaning by then, but there was still plenty to do. Kale's team cleaned up the remaining mud and set up equipment to dry the walls. Throughout the process, Kale was prompt in his communication and did what he said he would do. When I arrived a week after the flood and saw the unit, my only critique was that the grout in the tile floors had not been scrubbed and there was mud staining around the floor edges and corners. Basically, the floor needed detailing. In fairness, this may be a level of cleaning that is beyond what remediators do. They also don't clean the mud out of the interiors of appliances. I was fine with what MD does and does not do, but if you have a whole-house flood that also involves mud you may want to ask questions so that your expectations are managed. I met Kale in person to thank him for his help. He offered advice for the repairs from the perspective of someone who regularly deals with water intrusion. Kale knew that my contractor would make all repairs, so his advice was completely from a place of wanting to be helpful. Kale also acknowledged that our bedroom fan was not broken when he first entered our unit, but it was now broken. (We had also noticed the broken fan, but did not mention it.) Kale said that his team is usually good about letting him know when things like that happen, but, when he asked them, they said they did not do it. I could see where he was coming from: something was broken, but was it my contractor's guys or Kale's guys? We weren't there, so we don't know. Although that was fair, he maybe could have knocked a small amount off the price as a courtesy, just in case his guys unknowingly were the culptrits, but honestly, in the grand scheme of what we were dealing with, the fan was not my priority and I appreciated that Kale noticed the breakage and checked with his guys. I found Kale to be highly responsive and helpful. The invoice I was provided includes pictures and a detailed breakdown of the work that was done each day, which I suspect will be useful when I seek reimbursement from my insurer. As Kale said, I hope I never have to call him again, but if disaster strikes I would not hesitate to do so. read more

We have used MD Restoration previously through a large water leak insurance claim we made and they did such a great job we decided to turn to them again when we experienced an odd odour in one of our downstairs bedrooms. Kale answered my call and was very proactive in working through a list of things to check, and to get a specialist around to my house asap. The specialist, Felix, was luckily in my area the next day, diagnosed the problem (damp getting into our house foundation) and offered to do the work himself or advise us on what to try (dehumidifier in the room to dry it all out, dig a drainage ditch to take water away from the foundation and check all underground pipes and sprinklers for leaks). I would definitely recommend MD Restoration. They are quick to respond, friendly and professional, know exactly what needs to be done and are happy to guide you through the process yourself, or do it for you. Kale was able to come see the ceiling damage the same day I called. A crew came the next day to begin remediation. At the end of the project everything looked perfect. The biggest thing I want to give appreciation for is the attention to detail and caring attitude of all the various crews it took to complete the project. I had a leak at the washing machine hose on both hot/cold, well long story short it leaked and caused damage to my garage wall, and spread to the room behind the garage. I made my insurance claim and called MD restoration maui and Kale sent his team out the next day to inspect. Hands down to CHANTZ, SHAURENE, and PHILIP this team worked fast, hard and very professional. The guy Chantz really valued our safety and educated us on this situation from repairs to insurance. I have used MD Restoration twice for floods in my house. Each time they were very responsive. I had the manager at my house at 5am on a holiday weekend helping me to clean up inches of water...by 8am he had a full team to help remove the water. The service was great but the billing was the worst. They forced me to pay an invoice when it was supposed to be the other unit's responsibility. Our HOA even told them to address invoice to the other party who agreed to pay for services rendered. In fact, to make things worse, I was given an ultimatum to pay the invoice or get hit with late fees. End result, is they want to get paid, not to even try to understand what the issue is read more

Unfortunately, in good conscience, I cannot recommend this company. On advice from my insurance company, I used this company for Mold Mitigation and they said they could put all back together in a professional way. Due to Covid I was not able to be on island while this work was done. My first mistake. On my return to Maui, after the work was completed I found a long list of things not done adequately. I have a keen eye for detail and was very disappointed with the results. Cabinets corners were chewed up and the only fix they offered was to color the chewed up wood with wood filler/stain. The walls were completely removed along with my kitchen cabinets and when put back together non of the cabinets were aligned properly, things shifted with so many walls gone. I also found a space under the bath cabinet that hadn't even been painted and the mud was falling out. In the bathroom that had the ceiling and wall removed they missed a wood box that housed the overhead fan, which had shifted and left a large gap. When I asked the owner about it he said he hadnt anticapted that and was charging another $1400 to redo that mistake. It was clearly missed when the ceiling was put back in as proven with his own photo's. It would have been a easy fix with the ceiling gone, but it was missed. I do not feel that the job was finished and it was not my responsibility. He got the insurance to cover it, much to my disagreement. I could go on with the things needed re-done but the list is long. I did miss one of their payments (shame on me). It was an honest mistake. I am including a few before (when I arrived)and after photo's. If you choose to hire these folks be on island so you can monitor the work daily to catch what they miss or it will cost you. I recently had a leak which damaged my attic, and from the first phone call to the end of the job, it was a seamless and professional experience---at a very fair price. It's rare on Maui to have a company that conducts business so well. Professional estimates, phone calls to confirm, emailed estimates, crew calls when on their way, crew arrives on time and promptly begins work--these were my initial impressions. The crew (Chad and Jay) were friendly, worked hard, prepped beautifully and cleaned up every inch of ground they'd touched after they finished. In December 2016 there was a leak in the roof of our condo causing dosage to our bathroom. Our Homeowners Association contracted with MD Restoration Maui to demolish the damaged areas and perform mold remediation. They performed those services satisfactorily. After that work was completed, they submitted a bid to replace the damaged drywall in the bathroom. The bid was accepted by the Homeowners Association. A contract for the work was signed. We had been planning some renovations in the bathroom and we asked MD Restoration to give us a bid for the additional work. We accepted the bid This work was clearly identified as being in addition to the previously agreed upon work and we signed a contract which clearly listed drywall replacement. They were given a deposit for 50% of the work, 2/3rds from the Homeowners Association and 1/3rd from us. On July 21, 2017, they said they had completed the work. When we checked they had not replaced the drywall. They claimed that the contract did not include drywall replacement even though drywall replacement was clearly included in the contract. We advised them that their actions constituted fraud since they did not do any of the work that the Homeowners Association had paid them to do. We requested that they refund the payment from the Homeowners Association, but they have declined to do so. This is a warning that MD Restoration Maui engages in fraudulent contracting and billing practices. They are a grossly unethical company. Eric H read more

At least they answer your calls and get the work done even if the quality is less than average They left our place a complete mess and reinstalled in a bathroom that had just been flooded a cracked running toilet When asked about the mess they replied they are not house cleaners We've had 1700 square feet of of hardwood floors refinished along with a load bearing wall removed and skylights add to our home on the mainland and those professionals never left a mess like these slobs Project manager never even looked in on his crew for quality control. A plumbing segment beneath our sink failed, flooding the room with hot water while we were away for a few hours. We found an inch of standing water on our Pergo laminate floor when we got home.
