If I had known about Robert's expertise, I would have consulted him on the door before ordering, which was what he recommended I do next time. Guess what? I believe he is absolutely right! I did check with him on a future door installation that I have planned and I am now super confident with my online purchase. His team was clean and thoughtful. He listened to my ideas, which although weren't complex, my ideas were particular. I appreciated his suggestions and his welcoming attitude when I brought up concerns during the job. He is now my go-to person when I need heavy repair, renovation work around our house, and believe me, in a 25 year old home, there is lots to do! I hesitated writing this review because there is a selfish part of me that wants to keep him a secret! But, Maui peeps, you should support him and his business because we need companies like this. He is a family man, he cared for and supported families escaping the Lahaina fires but STILL managed to keep his appointments. He is very reasonable, offering a lot of value for his time, talent and work. You will not go wrong with hiring him for your next handy man job. I don't offer a lot of 5 stars. But when I do, I do.

We were working closely with a designer and a carpenter employed by Nakoa. We paid half the full amount to purchase all materials. When it came time for manufacturing the owner balked at the agreed upon price. We heard second hand that they were having financial difficulties. Both the designer and the carpenter were let go. The owner then told us he wouldn't be installing the cabinets. Our job was completed but arrived with missing handles, missing clothing rods, misaligned drawers and broken glass. The owner never made good on correcting any of the issues. We hired another carpenter to correct the mistakes. We had to source and pay for the broken glass fronts. After delivery of the cabinets he stopped responding to text, emails and phone calls. It appears they have gone out of business.

Words can not express how utterly disappointing my experience was…read more My husband and I decided it was time to have a nice dresser, to have one built. My husband did some research and we decided on Nakoa. I met with Allen in the beginning of July. He was very nice and took the time with me to discuss what I was looking for and go through possible options. He said he had a few projects going and that he wouldn't have it done until August, or the beginning of September. No problem, it was a complicated piece and we were more interested in quality than having it done quickly. He sent designs a week later, we approved and paid the deposit. August came and went. No word. In early September I sent an email, no response. After SEVERAL emails I finally got a response that he was a little behind, but it would be done near the end of September. September and October passed with no word. I sent an email here and there but received no response. We thought "ok he must be really busy" so we decided to wait a little longer. Near mid-December we started getting worried. I again sent several emails and called without a response from him. I was starting to lose my patience and sent another email and voicemail that were more firm and demanded he contacted me. Finally we hear back. He apologized for his many delays and offered us a discount if we would take delivery the first week in January instead. We said yes. The first week of January came and went, no word. In the second week of January I was in the area of his shop so I decided to stop by and see what's up. He was extremely surprised to see me drop in and stumbled over his words when talking with me. I was hoping to see the progress but they had NOT EVEN STARTED our project. At this point he said it would be done by the end of January. Needless to say now I was pissed! He had over 6 months to do this project and was now telling me it would get thrown together in a week and a half?!? My husband and I sent an email relaying our dissatisfaction. This time he actually responded to our message AFTER my husband sent him messages on 3 social media platforms, 2 emails, and 6 phone calls. But of course it still took several days for him to respond. He responded with an apology and said that if we didn't want to continue the project with him, he'd give us ALL of the wood for the project so that someone else could do it. I believe this was his last effort to keep us as clients, but at this point we'd had enough. We emailed telling him we'd like a full refund and the wood he offered as well. One week later my husband went to get the refund and collect the wood. He did give us a full refund but did not give us the wood he had promised. Surprise surprise! Instead he gave us 2 large scrap pieces that our woodworker told us wasn't quality enough for the project. When my husband asked him for the rest of the wood, Allen told us he was going to build the rest out of plywood, and use the pieces he gave us as veneer on top of the plywood. This is absolutely not what we had agreed upon. The project had been agreed upon to be made entirely out of real wood, which made the project quite expensive, 8k+. Now Allen was telling my husband it was not possible to build it out of all real wood. That's a bunch of crap. He flat out lied to us and lied to me when I initially agreed to the project. We had agreed on the high cost so that it would be made out of real wood, not plywood with veneer. We are easygoing people (we let this go on for 6 months) we understand that sometimes things get backed up. He didn't communicate with us, he avoided us, and he obviously lied to us repeatedly about his ability to finish a project on ANY time schedule. This is a small island; we know that he took other, bigger paying jobs on and just kept putting us off. Our experience with Allen was horrible; he tried to con us out of big money for a nice piece of wood furniture that he was going to make out of plywood instead, he repeatedly lied to us, he repeatedly avoided us, he took other bigger paying jobs and kept putting us off. We were good customers, we didn't get angry, we were understanding and patient and treated Allen with understanding and respect. He took advantage of our kindness. I can not express how extremely disappointing this entire experience was. I'm still extremely angry about the entire thing. I would recommend steering clear of this hot mess called Nakoa Woodworks.

They just did a renovation job on one of my rental properties in Makiki. It included reflooring, painting, and numerous repairs and they delivered more than they promised. They are honest, reasonable, communicative, reliable, accommodating, and best of all hardworking with great quality workmanship. These qualities are certainly challenging to find in a handyman these days but I am happy to recommend them. I worked with Donovan, the foreman who kept in touch with me everyday and sent me photos of their progress. He is professional and super friendly and I appreciate how he met me at the hardware store, shopped for all the materials, and I paid the hardware store. This way I'm not making a blind deposit for "materials" bearing the risk of the contractor taking the money and running. Once a contract is signed they did require 50% Deposit on the labor cost but the work was already in progress. They're also fully insured. A neighbor in the same building was so impressed with their work that they hired them on the spot to have their flooring redone as well! I found AllTech Professionals on Yelp through their "Obtain a Quote" process. I love Yelp for this feature as it has saved me so much time on managing my projects. They responded right away, showed up on time to the appointment, understood the tasks without overselling, we worked on the written agreement and purchased supplies the next day, and the job started the day after and was finished in the estimated timeframe they promised. What's not to love?! Call Donovan at (808)208-1773. He and his brother Ben did an excellent job. They have operations on Oahu and Maui. Mahalo, Donovan and AllTech Professionals. I'm a property manager, I use repairman and contractors all the time and this is the most inflated bill I have encountered. For 2 wooden door shims installed, and the tiling I asked for wasn't possible to do, I paid nearly $900!!!! $135 per hour and 5 hours time, when Geoff the handyman was in and out under an hour, was driving 1 hour each way which means I was charged 2 hours for a Home Depot run. I contacted Jonathan to complain about the time he had charged but he was rude and kept texting me to the point I refused to answer him anymore as he was starting to harass me. His reply to me below is the tone to expect. I am Yelp Elite. I don't write a bad review just to annoy a local business. I write truthful reviews, I wouldn't be Elite if I didn't. I've paid more than $46,000 to Alge Group and this is what I get…read more We needed to remodel our home. We have found this company on Yelp and trusted the positive reviews they had. We also fell in love with the pictures they 3D-modeled and put on their webpage. When we met the owner Jorge Gebrael, he sounded like a nice person, who was always open to answer any questions. Didn't work that well after we paid all the money though. It seems like he disappeared, at least exclusively to me, our contractor and our assistant. Jorge delegated this project to Amanda Sellers, a stylish designer who has skills of finding interesting materials that match with each other. She was either fired from the company, or left on her own right after we paid all the money. Now neither Jorge, nor Amanda wants to answer even such simple questions as "which paint did you plan to use here on this column?" What you can expect from Alge group: 1) EXPECTATION vs REALITY For instance, see the outdoor shower attached: expectation vs reality. The contractor claims ALGE's representative approved this version when they decided to cut some costs on our project. Nobody asked me if I agree with such a change though. I would never agree with making the new outdoor shower interior walls the same as the old exterior walls of the house. Just look at these ugly looking vertical wooden panels. Why not just make them plain white without wooden panels and cover with a waterproof paint? At least you could ask the client! 2) WASTE OF CLIENT'S MONEY * Another thing is our master bathroom. Amanda planned there huge LED mirrors, which eventually didn't match the elevation of the house and now these $5000 worth mirrors are just a junk in contractor's storage, because there's no place to put them, and it's too late to return them. * Both Jorge and Amanda told me they are to make it budget friendly and a lot of stuff can be bought cheap. For instance, when I asked Amanda how much can potentially cost all the finish materials that they plan purchasing, she said on the phone it can cost about $50,000. It's affordable. In reality: more than $250,000. * Another example of not budget-friendliness: we had brand new cabinets in the house installed by the previous owner, as well as a dishwasher, microwave, exhaust and range. They were only 1 year old. Instead of actively proposing to reuse them, Amanda proposed completely different design and said it's ok to donate all these belongings. When we figured out the new cabinets would cost us $90,000 to make while we have the new ones in storage, I insisted on reusing them and luckily the contractor hasn't managed to "donate" them to anyone yet. These cabinets look just perfect in our kitchen and we saved huge money because we didn't listen to ALGE Group. 3) IRRESPONSIBLE. IGNORANT For instance, ALGE group picked up and ordered night stands for us. One of them came with a missing part. The contractor informed them about it. They could replace it for free using wayfair's 30 day free return policy. Instead, they didn't do a thing. Jorge just doesn't reply to our emails or phone calls. Any questions about project? Forget it. You pay them huge for a few pictures. You are buying digital illustrations only. Don't expect them to measure if it fits in your house. Just look at these curtains attached. They are 8in shorter than these sliding doors. 4) SAFETY RISKS Remember the story about the $5000 mirrors that don't fit in our new layout? Well, according to the contractor, ALGE group asked them to make all our huge ceilings in the master bathroom so short that I hit a lamp with my head every time I get out of the bath! And they never asked me if I want this? I would insist on keeping the high ceilings! I told them Many times I'm 6'1 tall! Many times. Literally every time we planned anything. Moreover, the lamp that I hit with my head is designed for the damp environment, not wet environment, which is a safety risk according to inspection. 5) ZERO STARS I would rate material selection abilities of Alge group 4/5. Budget friendliness - 0/5. Communication - 0/5. Responsibility - 0/5. Measuring - 0/5. Planning - 0/5. This is very annoying. I'm very disappointed in Alge Group!
