A bit of a mixed bag for me at Cunningham Falls…read more.. I was excited to find a listing of parks that supposedly had wheelchair accessible trails. I've never been to Cunningham Falls before and the idea of seeing a waterfall seemed lovely. However, the accessible boardwalk has strips on pretty much everything board which made me feel like I was riding a very angry horse. Each bump shot pain up my spine. I'm writing this a day later and I still hurt, and I think I'm a pretty tough chick... and the view of the falls was mostly blocked and not worth the actual pain. The Falls is more like a small stream of water that splashes down some rocks. It's a soothing noise but I was expecting something more grandiose... I suppose I could blame climate change. Most of the old stream beds are dry. We also checked out the "south beach" which I enjoyed. There's plenty of pavement, and packed gravel. I couldn't get close to the water, but that's okay because it was a sunny day and I prefer to stick to the shade. I was impressed by the fact that every picnic table has a grill nearby. If I lived closer I'd like to think I'd come to the south beach often, hide in the trees near the river, grill something delicious... but I was a several hours long trip from Dundalk, so it's unlikely that I'll return. It was a nice day-trip though. I don't regret going.

There are a lot of rocks to walk and shift over, a few fallen trees you have to sorta climb over. (Not too hard) Those steps however, MAN! Them things will take you out! Lol. There were plenty of areas to stop for breaks though so do it your own pace. Everyone there was very friendly and few shared very helpful tips! Overall a great experience, and as crazy as it sounds, I do it again! Something to think about though...I wore shorts, but I would suggest wearing pants. Someone I was with kept getting these green spiky things stuck to them and I have no idea what that was but it's a no. Also, if you have some hiking shoes or boots wear those. Trying to walk on rocks and walk downhill you might slide a little bit. You want to have some sort of stability. Last they have these, for a lack of better word, hiking sticks that a lot of other hikers had that seem to be very helpful from what one of them told me I would suggest getting a pair of those as well. I hear they have them at Costco.

We headed to Sugarloaf Mountain, and it was just as refreshing for the soul as I remembered. I won't go on too long since I've shared my love for this place before, but it truly is one of my favorite hiking spots, that now holds a special place in my heart bc it is the first hike we've completed with my 3yr old son on my back. The trails are well-marked, complete with info on distance and difficulty levels. If you make it to the Summit area--the very top--you're in for some breathtaking views!

My impression of the menu is that it's kind of a Middle Eastern, Mexican, American, everything place. The Philly sub was more of a flat sandwich than a traditional philly, different style of bread, but tasty and satisfying. I opted for the chips instead of the french fries to cut some calories Feels very much like an old school neighborhood pub. Looking around, and taking the fact that it's a very small town, I can see this being a social focal point for the area. A nice full bar. There wasn't anything to dislike about it, nice people, nice food, warm, and comfortable, easy five stars. BUT. The one thing that pushed it way over the top was that instead of standing there, awkwardly intimidating, with the card machine in their hand waiting for me to pay, THEY LEFT IT ON THE TABLE AND WALKED AWAY! I can't express how happy this made me. Little things go a long way.

Makes sense to come in morning because it's cooler and you can get more time as you have to be done by 4pm for latest. Pack a picnic bag and enjoy the tubing. Next time we will go down the river and then relax and enjoy something to eat before going down again and just enjoy more time. No rush just fun and relaxation. They have other spots for kayaking and river rafting which we want to try too.

We arrived at the pick up spot, got fitted for life jackets and received a bracelet. Then took a shuttle bus up river to the drop-in point. We each received a tube. When they say mellow, they mean mellow. We were moving at a snail like pace. My hubby and I were tethered and he had to walk us most of the way. There were a lot of slippery rocks and he found it challenging when he tried to get onto his tube for a rest. When we got back and were making our way onto land, I had 18 feet to walk over the rocks and fell. I am not cut out for outdoor adventures apparently. I likely would have enjoyed whitewater tubing or rafting more as mellow tubing is too slow for me. However, I don't know how to swim so that is problematic in case I fall into the water. It was good to try one time, but I would likely not go again.
