If ever in need of secure parking in Fortitude Valley you can't go past McWhirters. McWhirters is a big secure parking lot, with multiple levels. You can either enter it from Ballow or Warner street but I always tend to take the Warner entrance for some reason. Like all secure parking, it does come at a price however. Prices change depending on what day you are there but generally on weekdays it is $$6 for 20 mins or less and then steadily gets more and more expensive as time goes by. On weekends it will start at $9 for a half hour of parking privilege and then rise and rise some more. There are deals for early birds or late leavers so it is worth checking out the website. The best part about McWhirters Secure Parking is the convenient location, being smack bang in the middle of the Valley. It is also open 24 hours so if you are the sober driver you can take everyone home after a long night of drinks and dancing. Funnily enough, I did catch a couple having a more intimate moment in their car on the second level of McWhirters once. In fact, I was quite impressed at the bouncing of the car, the unintentional accidental beeps, and the fact that all this was happening at around 10pm on a Tuesday of all days. McWhirter's Parking is a hassle-free way to park in the valley on the weekend. Each level and section is colour coded, and when you hop into the elevator up (the elevator is a little dingy, but it's the valley, so what can you expect), the buttons are colour coded. It's easy to forget to pay for parking when you stroll past the machines on the way to the lift. And although the booths at the exit say they accept credit cards, don't trust them! I feel the $6 attractant sign out front is really a marketing con to get you in as by the time you have spent three to five minutes finding a park then 3 or more minutes getting across to Mcwhirters shopping and then 3 or more getting back and the one or two getting back out it leaves you with ten minutes to shop so I get hit with $14 but whos the stupid one ,I now rarely shop there because of this, I used to eat there regularly but not now I don't , read more

I use this car park a lot when I have to drive to work but only because I have to. It's a good car park, not too pokey, but the fees are designed to sting you. Early bird parking means you cannot LEAVE until after 14:30... if you do, wave goodbye to $35. Again with the early bird, remember to VALIDATE your ticket with the tiny early bird validation box next to the pay booth on the ground floor. If you forget to do this, again wave goodbye to $35. The "late bird" parking for $6 has similar tricks to get you to fork over their go-to fee of $35... At the end of the day, it's a carpark.
