There are many large sculptures throughout the gardens, they are all labeled with the name of the work, the artist and the material. There is a large market with sculptures of all sizes for sale. The exhibit is so large it is only displayed in one location per year. While we were there, there were two sculptors working on new pieces, both took the time to speak with us. Love is in the air at the Bonnet House, while we were there they were setting up for a wedding and we saw a proposal. A beautiful setting for both. They have special events throughout the year, including an orchid show and Christmas holiday wonderland. Guided and self guided house tours are available,$30-40, we opted for the grounds tour only, $15. The gardens are well shaded so even on a warm day our visit was comfortable.

I love coconut so this cake with a center of coconut cream pie filling was unbelievable! I was only going to eat a bite but I finished the whole thing! It was dark so the view from inside was just darkness but I am hoping to go back on a beautiful day and sit outside on the patio and watch the world sail by. Service was over the top the way it should be at a private club. Since we were visiting this club, when we checked in at the front, the entire team came out to welcome us and as the local resident, they even took it as an opportunity to share with me how I could join the club it I wanted. Speaking of service, parking is valet out front and I loved that the valet graciously helped an older woman who was unsteady on her feet and was looking for something that she thought she had left in her car. He made sure she was safe on a bench and then went looking for the item which never showed up. But he made sure she had someone with her. I'll end where I began in my love for private clubs. So, this is kind of a follow up to my review of Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. While the park has…read moremany things to explore, the kayak, canoe, and paddle board rentals are handled by Park and Ocean. Located a short walk from the first parking lot, Park and Ocean provides some much needed shade and refreshments during the South Florida summer. I had never been here before, so I arrived a little early to check the place out and reserve kayaks for my friends and I. The young lady at the desk was extremely helpful in explaining all the possible options, safety measures, and pricing. She let me know how to get down to the launch area and that there would be lockers for the things we didn't want to get wet, which turned out to be extremely helpful. We went down to the launch and were saddled with great kayaks. The lake is pretty much a straight line, so it's very good for practicing, beginners, and nice scenery. There is a little secret passage which can provide needed shade as well. We planned to have lunch there, but by the time we got done and completely rained on, the restaurant wasn't open yet. So, we used the walkway to access the beach until it was time. The restaurant boasts great local beer on tap and delicious cocktails, as well as elevated bar food and seafood options. I really enjoyed the conch fritters, which were well seasoned and flavorful. Be careful if you don't like spicy food. The young lady who was so helpful in the morning with kayak bookings also told us that the park puts on a reptile exhibition at one, so we were able to take the kids to check out.
