Had a long afternoon sail to Napali March 2023 so was hungry and searching for a nearby restaurant. I had a hankering for onion rings and, boy, does MCS Grill deliver! The onion rings were huge, hot, and yummy. I ordered a salad and it wasn't quite what I was hoping for--nothing wrong with it, just not the romaine lettuce I prefer, and the individual salad components were too big to eat without additional cutting prep on my part. I was there about a half hour before they closed and I felt a bit rushed--not that the staff were anything but welcoming and gracious, but I didn't want to be "that" person that holds up people from getting off from their shift! I noticed a steady stream of take-out customers that appeared to be locals so that is a good sign! I didn't want to take my food to go because I was about a 40 minute drive from the condo where I was staying. I will look forward to eating at MCS Grill again when I visit in March 2024. read more

I had the chili peppa fried chicken with fried saimin, salad and rice. Lilikoi iced tea followed with the lilikoi chiffon square! ONOLICIOUS!! My only regret: that I wasn't in town long enough to try the other dishes! With only one server...service was exceptional!! read more

We came for dinner and even though it was not busy it still took forever to get our food! We tried the coconut shrimp which hubby wanted and loved but I just thought it was ok. Too much batter for my taste! We had the mrap mahi with lemon caper butter sauce with mac salad and greens. I loved this!! The mahi was cooked perfectly! The mac salad actually had spaghetti in it but tasted great! Hubby wanted a side of the Korean fried chicken which I didn't think much of. If it hadn't been for the service I would have given them 4 stars because the mahi mahi was delicious! read more

3.5/5 Fast service, nice waitresses, good food at a nice sit-down area. I got the Teri burger which came with fries. The burger had a large piece of pineapple on it, which really made my day. The meat was also nice and juicy, not overcooked, and flavorful. I dont really remember much of the teriyaki sauce on it, but the meat was well seasoned by itself. Came with a sesame seed bun, which I wasn't too crazy about. I would recommend this place on the way back from exploring the island. Not sure if I would drive all the way out to Hanapepe just for this though. read more

It was a stretch to find an open establishment after 3pm (but before 5pm) in Hanapepe. This was the best of our options but it was not great. I got the the combo with chili peppa chicken. It came with noodles, rice, and more noodles. There were a lot of carbs on my plate, and they just weren't impressive. The chicken was well-fried but lacked flavor. The macaroni salad had a lot of Mayo and again lacked flavor. My husband got the shrimp scampi after reading some positive Yelp reviews. He was pretty disappointed as well, but his meal cost twice as much. If you're in a pinch and have to stop, so be it. But if you can wait to find more options, do that. EDIT: The owner's reply indicates that many locals return to this spot, and I am happy to hear it. I love supporting local businesses; I was just not that impressed with the food. I am generally pretty easy to please when it comes to food, so maybe this was just an off day for the kitchen and the food is generally more flavorful. But my review above was true to my experience. Hope others' experiences are different! read more

I'm pleasantly surprised with this place. It's hard to find seafood pasta on Kauai but this place has an amazing White Clam Linguine! Steam White Clams was great as well. One tiny downside no wine or beer. Five stars guys! I'll be back next time I'll visit Kauai ;) read more

We dined in at MCS grill to Celebrate my daughters birthday and got the absolute worst service. We were pointed to our table so we sat down and got settled in. We noticed a worker waiting on the tables around us but we never were acknowledged or waited on. This particular server conversed with the table next to us in a personal conversation even talking on their cellphone for over 5 minutes and still never acknowledged we were there. Keep in mind she is the one that sat us so she clearly knew we were there. The busser finally came by after sitting there for well over 20 minutes and asked us if we would like something to drink. That was the only service we ever received for the night. We kept waiting patiently ready to order and yet this same server walked past us and went to numerous tables that got seated after us and took all of their orders without ever coming by our table to even take our order. After sitting there waiting for over 30 minutes to order anything the surrounding tables that came after us all got their food and that's when I had enough. I went up to the register and told the owner how long we had been sitting there with absolute NO SERVICE and wanted to do take out. In all honestly had it not been my daughter's birthday and her being so excited to eat there I wouldn't have given them ANY OF MY SERVICE. I proceeded to place my order to go and paid for everything in its entirety. Being a worker in the F&B industry as well as working in customer service I really expected the owner to make things right. We chose their restaurant to celebrate a special occasion at and when expressing concerns I got an "I'm sorry the server is dramas". Clearly, that is not my problem if she is dramas she needs to do her job. I know very well being in the service industry there are ways to take care of your customers and make things right when your own employees are at fault, but clearly there was no care. It is such a shame that this is the type of service we receive when we decide to dine out. However, I did find out the name of our "server" who is dramas and we never received service from is named Hannah. So I highly suggest anyone dining in please ensure your server is not Hannah so you actually get service. read more

Our 1st time to have lunch here. We were celebrating my Husband's Birthday, with his Son & Daughter in law. The server was kind & efficient. We had onion strings, the Special of the day beef stew, fish and chips, Thai salad with steak, MCS combo with chili pepper chicken & fried saimin, Lilikoi chiffon cream & Brownie sundae. The presentation of the Thai salad was impressive. We enjoyed the desserts. read more

Service was great, however the food was just below average, steak we order was tough, dry, hard to eat, the scampi was oily, the fried chicken my brother had was pretty good, garlic fries oily and stale. my sister had the Thai salad and it wasn't very good. Veggies were dry, poorly preoared, came with no dressing. When we asked for dressing server brought this little paper cup so we had to keep asking for more. Sorry MCS we won't be back. read more

I honestly had one of the best meals that I've ever had from MCS Grill. I ordered the vegetarian trio and the garlic furakaki fries. Everything was out of this world delicious. OMG! This place is awesome! First off, the servers that we had were terrific. They were very pleasant and helpful to us with our orders. Servers are always important to the first impression of any restaurant. As for the food, we're visiting here from Oahu, we ate the best oxtail soup we have ever had anywhere! So tasty and definitely worth coming back for! Also had a side salad that came with the most delicious Lilikoi vinaigrette! MCS needs to bottle that dressing and sell it! And last but definitely not least - their Lilikoi Chiffon Pie was outstanding. Tried three others here on Kauai and MCS' Lilikoi Chiffon Pie is now our #1 favorite! Can't wait to go back to MCS Grill and try their other menu items. So good! Overall we rate MCS Grill 5++ stars! read more

OXTAIL!!! OXTAIL!! OXTAIL!!! And a uniquely decadent take on Liliko'i Chiffon Pie! Sooo goood!

Service is excellent food is ono i always go fo da ox tail soup on Monday an prime rib on Friday winna

I come here for a lot of business lunches or dinner with my parents on the weekend. I really enjoy the food here. Plate lunch favorites that are elevated with a culinary touch, healthy hand crafted salads and adventurous daily specials all in a fresh, spacious welcoming dining room. I always eat the chili pepper chicken combo w/ fried saimin and salad. It's consistently good and a big meal for around $10. I ordered the prime rib special on Friday and it was served medium rare and super juicy and lots of good fat! It's pricey ($27) but it's a prime rib on the westside (hard to find!) Lastly, the service is really, really good! Girls are courteous and attentive. Basically, it's the "go-to" spot in hanapepe for lunch and dinner because of the menu options, daily specials, nice sit down atmosphere, and friendly welcoming wait staff and management! read more

Super Friendly Staff! Good Food! Great 5 star plantation I was tea was delicious and at $5 it does come with refills so I had many many refills u told my bladder was content! I would give the food a solid 4.5 stars as it is really good but my mind did not explode. I would come back and eat here regularly. I ate the steak and chicken combo and all was really good. The nachos were a great appetizer and they make the tortilla chips in house and they are yummy. Peach cobbler with ice cream finished my food coma and sent me back to the surfer shack we were staying in fully prepared to pass out for the night. Staff was so polite and had such awesome genuine smiles that their sincerity in being positive rubbed off on me while I was eating. Happy staff means a lot to the dining experience for me. This is a 6 out of 5 starts bring us to our 5 star rating. Prices are decent for what you get too! Stop by and you will be happy you did! read more

Yum! The end. No.....I'm kidding.....Mr & I were sad to find out that Hanapepe Cafe was closed for the night ( they're only open on Fridays but this particular Fri they were closed due to a school graduation in Oahu ) so we were looking around for an alternative when MCS came up under "veggie" Veggie Burger for the Mr. This was a homemade patty w/ a lovely bite from the nutty quinoa & the fries were outstanding!! I rank these fries to my all time faves at Ayola in San Francisco Perfectly crispy on the outside & soft on the inside & salted just right - so good!! I chose the veggie loaf and was a huge fan of the lentils & veggie mix that created the "loaf". Paired with brown rice and potato-pasta salad & this was a huge plate of comfort What a lucky find! Huge fans!! read more

Great vegetarian and vegan options!! I had the veggie sausage pasta and my husband had the MCS combo with the spicy chicken and saimin, he said the chicken had a nice sweet heat and the bacon in the saimin was smoky and gave it a robust flavor. My daughter had the burger and it was juicy and thick. The "plantation" ice tea is hella good, too. Our server, Kirra, was super chill and stayed on top of our refills. read more

Another Ono local spot! Thank you to the lady who recommended this place to us! We loved it!

This was a great recommendation from a local friend. MCS is open for lunch and dinner. Either is well worth the drive from anywhere! I recommend almost anything on the menu!....a friend had the mahi fish and chips, I've had the Teri chicken plate with fried saimin noodles and either Mac or green salad, I also had a mahi salad for dinner. There's the peppa chicken plate ( that's not really spicy ), there's a rib plate, and chicken and steak plates. Lots to choose from--Friday nights is prime rib, too. They make the lilikoi chiffon for dessert or you can have a root beer or coke float! The chiffon is very light. I can't say enough about MCS, you have to come try! read more

We paid 23 dollars for steak and shrimp plate for dinner and it took forever to come out and our steak was over cooked :( I asked for medium well and they gave me well done. Thumbs down on the steak, but the garlic shrimp on top of the steak was divine!!! Also, their desserts were bomb too! We got the strawberry lilikoi chiffon pie and it's was just enough tanginess and sweetness to end our meal. It would've gotten five starts had the steak been made to how we like it! read more

How this place has 4 stars and good reviews is beyond me! The pictures are even false. They don't have a bar and they don't service alcohol! Not sure how they can call their calamari app calamari. It was mush fried in strips. The mahi was frozen from a bag. We were sooo disappointed. Drawn here because we were on that side of the island and they had a few vegan options and that has been a little difficult to find on this trip. Don't waste your time or money here. read more
