Easily the worst place I've lived. The apartments are old and in disrepair. When I moved in, there were holes in the bedroom door (like, someone had punched holes in the door) and holes in the shower walls. The tub had permanent stains and wear on it; it never looked clean. The kitchen cabinets didn't have any handles on them, so the laminate was peeling off from years of residents pawing to open them. The fridge was old and rusted. The oven didn't hold the correct temperature and it took months of complaining for them to replace it. The countertops were warped and stained. The shared lobby in our building always smelled like wet dog and urine, even after they replaced the carpet. The gutters were never cleaned so when it rained, they would overflow right above the only entrance to the building. The "fitness center" was janky as hell. AND THE POOL WAS CLOSED FOR TWO YEARS. (We got a cute email that said no, rent won't be lowered because there's no pool access--you're paying for an apartment, not the amenities. Ridiculous.) I never invited friends to visit because it was embarrassing for them to see the apartment where I lived. read more

This place should get a 0. Black mold everywhere and they don't care. Their fix is to put killz on it and paint over it. They don't fix anything and deny having work orders. I loved there not even 4 months and I'm still sick from the black mold. The whole empty apartment smells like mildew and mold. Tried to move into a different one and it smelled like nothing but stale smoke and cat urine. The urine smell was so strong it burnt your chest and eyes. This place is way to high of priced and they don't fix anything. About 10 people I know all have black mold that isn't fixed, the health department and fair housing need brought into this place NOW! We were very disappointed with our experience at McMillen Woods. The office staff was terrible to deal with. They initially held my credit card number on file without processing it for weeks. We were unsure if we even were secure in knowing that we had an apartment on hold. However, we were required to return paperwork immediately, otherwise we would lose our spot. We set up our account on auto pay for the first month's rent. We mis-typed one of the account numbers (our fault) and therefore the rent payment didn't go through. Instead of the office making contact with us as new tenants, they instead chose to put an eviction notice on the door. We had not yet moved in! We were charged for a garage space that we didn't have access to for months. It took about a 1 1/2 months of following up with the office constantly in order to get reimbursed for this. It is the largest complex in Newark and the occupancy is very high, so it seems the office staff exerts minimal effort. Additionally, we were told that there were hundreds of units, but only one person who was in charge of maintenance and our final walk through. We received conflicting information from the office staff about when we should schedule the final walk through and they were not at all accommodating to our schedule. As a side note, on the final walk through, we were told that if the stove drip pans weren't perfectly clean, we would be charged $20 each. WOW! Tenants are required to notify management months in advance of intent to move out. Had we broken our lease and moved out a couple months early, it would have amounted to a small amount of money returned. We decided to not allow the complex to "turn it" to the next tenant early and profit on the rent we were paying. The parking lot is still a disaster with lots of potholes even though it was supposedly repaired last fall. There is green mold on the siding and lots of dead trees waiting to fall down in the next storm (as happened this past spring). We hope this review will help someone else in making a decision where/where not to live. . read more

These apartments have not been maintained. Management doesn't update the apartments unless the resident agrees to pay an extra $50-$100/mo. The bathrooms are not properly ventilated, so they get moldy easily. Other reviewers mentioned drug problems in the complex, which is something I noticed, as well. Office staff turnover is extremely high, which is always a red flag. Stay away! I'd rather drive from Columbus than live in these apartments! read more

Do not rent here! This is the worst apartment I have ever lived in. We had to live here temporarily after we moved last minute for my Husband's job. I had friends grow up here years ago and never remember it ever being how it is now. In the best words, this place is a disgusting mess. Management is horrible and never replys to anything (complaints, issues, repairs, etc.). You are more of an inconvenience to them more than anything. Have something break and don't expect for it to ever be fixed. Noise complaints non stop to management allowing parties to occur. The police are there almost every weekend for something (noise, parties, fights,etc.). Mold. There is mold all throughout the apartments. Not only can you see it in the bathrooms, in the basement, in the kitchen, but you can smell it as well. Forget about anything being done about this as they will just paint over it until it comes back again. Parking is a mess there. They claim you have to have a parking pass, however there are cars taking up spots all throughout with no pass. Mostly young kids who are at the many parties going on there and playing loud music at all hours of the night. Don't think about ever walking around either. People will fly going 40+ mph down the streets and the yards are all full with waste and disgust with the fences half standing up. I would not recommend living here to anyone! It's gross. read more

After living here for over 14 years I must say this place continuously hits new bottoms every few months. Their lack of respect for their residents is impressive. Not only did they decide to not plow after the massive snow storm this year, leaving residents shoveling their way out to Main Street, but the overall up keep is pathetic. There has been a crater sized pot hole in front of my parking spot since the summer. Good news though! They've decided that dealing with the folks who can't park in their assigned parking spots is just too much trouble for them. So they are taking them away. As a female who doesn't get off of work until 2-4 am it doesn't sound that safe for me to have to walk around at that hour bc the parking spot outside of my residence was taken away from me. It's just sad. I pride myself in working hard yet these people tend to pride themselves in cutting corners and doing as little as possible. read more

Where do I begin with this complex? The staff had some turnover, so when I complained about the confusing nature of my lease, the folks there were indifferent, because someone else had done the paperwork with me. The lease terms are very confusing and the staff doesn't bother to explain them. I ended up with a 12 month and three weeks lease (basically a thirteen months lease). However, when the staff learned I'd acquired a new place with a first of the month move date, they wanted the keys to my apartment, even though I had a full month left on my lease. I figured they rented it and wanted to turn it around. They would not let me do a 10 month lease, even though I requested it, knowing that I could have to move for work. Oh, and you're supposed to leave the utilities in YOUR name until the end of the lease. Um, no. I was also promised a washer and dryer, but found out when I signed my lease that I wouldn't have one. Then, there was the peeping Tom incident. The staff apparently knew about the creeper for nearly 2 weeks before they let any of the residents know about it. It took the police getting involved before they finally sent out fliers. The creeper had been spying on my apartment and at least one more. Then, there's the maintenance problems. I get that there are a ton of apartments, but it is insane to expect residents to keep dogs/cats locked up all day when maintenance needed to fix something. On two separate occasions, I paid to kennel my dogs for the day, only to be told that "they hadn't made it to my apartment." Well, there goes a $100 on boarding. Another time I actually did lock up my dogs, and again, maintenance didn't show up. The maintenance guys are fine, but it is really unreasonable to have people locking up pets for days on end. My car bottomed out in potholes more times than I could count, and the solution was chip and seal (bandaid on a bullet wound if you ask me). Finally, the people: my neighbor had screaming matches with her baby-daddy (had to call the cops on that one). Her new boyfriend- or whatever- has a gigantic swastika tattooed on his stomach. I don't need that kind of person living near me. My immediate neighbors were great, but there are some seriously sketchy people living at that complex. Oh, and if you have a bottom apartment, beware that you can hear all kinds of activity going on from your upstairs neighbors: a normal person walking sounds like Godzilla, you can hear the person peeing, flushing the toilet, and having sex. Some dude who acted as a security guard would always question me about how old I was, where i was walking from (I'd walk to and from my place because of drinking, obviously) and would question me. I get protecting the complex but for a guy whose not even actual security, and question me like I'm a child when I'm a resident and pay rent just like everyone else is so offensive. The maintenance half the time wouldn't show and there was always issues. They need a better parking system, there were multiple innocents where I had to park STREETS down in the dark because randoms would be taking my spot remotely close to my apartment. This used to be THE upscale apartment complex in Newark. Since the new owners took over in Feb, not so much. They downsized dumpsters, so there is always trash in the courtyards, it took 6 months to fill potholes that were tearing up peoples cars (when they did finally fill them, they used a cheap gravel solution that is already coming out, but freshly repaved the office parking lot) and fail to enforce lease agreements (Windows must have actual curtains has given way to stained sheets, blankets, or nothing). Worst of all, they no longer adhere to the 24 hour notice required to enter apartments. (If they need in, they send letters like "We will be in sometime in the next 1 or 2 weeks but don't know for sure when. Lock up your pets until then.") Can't wait to move. read more

This is the WORST possible apartment complex in Newark. Management doesn't know how to handle ANY of the situations brought to their attention. The neighbors were all basically drugged out adults with kids. My neighbors actually spent their time watching me and my roommates so they could report any "problems". The people who lived across from us made our life there a living hell, and management didn't care because they have lived there for 5 years. If I could've broken my lease I would've months ago. Constant issues with parking. My neighbors left notes on our car on several occasions for parking in the EMPTY (no apt #) spot closest to their house as well as ours. There is one guest spot per parking lot which is RIDICULOUS. So if you plan on having friends over GOOD LUCK! My neighbor even cussed out my friend bc I allowed her to park in my spot. Management is beyond rude and honestly incapable of running this place. Our neighbors would watch what cars came to our house and if the visitor spot was taken, and one of my friends parked in an empty spot, even if it was not even close to theirs they would immediately call management and have management call me.
