I had an incredibly difficult time trying to renew my lease. My lease with the previous company was ending on May 31 and within that lease I was required to provide 30 days notice to vacate. In mid-March I received a letter from Morgan Properties that I needed to provide a notice to vacate or sign a new lease by April 1. This letter included an explanation of new fees and the requirement to remove my personal washer and dryer so that the company could install their own. I was very concerned about the change of deadline and forced removal of my personal property, so I immediately tried to contact the office via phone and in person. The office was closed during their normal business hours, which had been a common occurrence and issue. The following day, I was able to talk to Brittany in the office. She assured me that the deadline was not relevant and the installation of a washer and dryer could be delayed for this new lease term. I returned home to review and sign the renewal lease online. Upon reviewing through lease, I noticed that it said I do not have a dog or car. Both of which I do have and are included on my current lease. To have the lease corrected before signing, I reached out multiple times via email, phone call, and office visits with no response and a closed office. Eventually, Brittany offered to meet with me and I provided my availability. I received no response. I continued to email, call and visit the office that was closed during their posted regular business hours. After more than three weeks, I finally heard back from Shala with a new lease to review. This lease said that I agreed to remove my washer and dryer, and I do not have a car or dog. Now with more inaccuracies than we started with, I immediately notified Shala. She responded that the company is no longer offering the option to delay the forced removal of my personal washer and dryer and the information on my account automatically rolls over to the renewal lease. She offered no solution and suggested I sign the lease as is or submit my notice to vacate. Besides the immense frustration of having my personal property required to be removed, I'm obviously not going to sign a lease that both of us know is inaccurate. In the future, I could be fined, required to remove my car and/or dog, or worse. It is also concerning to me that there system does not have record of my car or dog as I have a current signed lease copy with that information and have been paying monthly pet rent. After stating that I would not sign the inaccurate lease, Shala forwarded the issue to IT. After not hearing back, so I reached out to both Shala and Brittany since it was only 10 days until I would be required to sign the new lease or provide a notice to vacate. With so many errors in the lease, I needed time to thoroughly review the lease I hoped to sign. I heard back that my renewal lease would be ready on May 30, the day before I'm required to sign or provide notice to vacate! How am I supposed to weigh options, review the document, and feel good about the decision to sign with such little time? Brittany said they would give me an extension, however seeing as how they've already gone back on the agreement to not force me to remove my washer and dryer, I cannot trust this. If this is any indication of the company's practices, there is no rational reason to stay. Between required removal of personal property, suggestions to sign an inaccurate lease, changed deadlines, and lack of communication, I cannot trust the experience of staying here.
Additional reasons for my rating: rent increases, drafty apartments, thin walls, infrequent lawn mowing, long term broken down cars with expired tags, over flowing trash, rent payment issues, frequent office closure during the regular hours with no notification, lack of communication, excessive aggressive geese, mice, mold, contractor messes, and noise from trains and planes. One or two of these reoccurring and ongoing issues would be manageable, but all of them plus lack the lack of response to them is unacceptable. read more
