So today I was in the ER because of an eye problem the nurse that did the eye exam told me to read the chart like a normal person would I was livid, and they were giving me the run around about speaking with a nurse manager or house manager. When I asked for both the nurse manager and house manager she commented come on stop it, it was just a joke, it in fact was not a joke and I was not there to play last time I was there they broke laws I also told them I wanted to make a formal complaint they said there was not a way to do that I also told them I wanted it written in my chart the nurse commented she was not there when it happened this visit was horrible unprofessional and unacceptable I would not recommend my dog there I also asked the nurse for her name and she refused to give it to me. They gathered in the small room like 4 different times and closed the door this was poor service and poor bedside manors read more

I went in for a "simple procedure" and they almost killed me! The surgeon perforated my bowels twice and when I was screaming in pain after waking up, telling everyone that something was wrong, I was treated like a drug seeker. They ignored my screams until I was unconscious with a bp of 50/30. I was in septic shock and kidney failure. I required two additional surgeries to fix the mistake. The surgeon even had the audacity to try to convince me that my bowels perforated on their own. read more

My adult son came to visit me. He had a severe burn on his arm and had finished his antibiotics last week. The area looked terrible-dead! I took him to urgent care who said to take him to ER asap. Sunday (6/4/23) I went o line for Mclaren ER to make an appointment at 8am. They said busy come in at 2pm. At noon they said come in at 6 thru we're busy! (Took him to Hurley who had to remove a large section that was neurotic! Follow up with burn center). It Tues and Mclaren is still sending me text messages saying yo come in 6 hrs later as they are busy!! This is ridiculous- why even have this service if you obviously do T use it! Please don't go here or take your loved ones here. Please. I had an experience a few years back which I posted in Google reviews but I think it should be posted here as well. I'll never ever use this hospital again and wouldn't dare take my fragile child here either. Here's my review: I brought my infant son, 4 months old, in because I was worried his lung was going to collapse again(he has a congenital condition which can cause this), it had a few weeks prior. I took him to McLaren and not Hurley because I was right around the corner from Mclaren. I was in panic mode as you can imagine. The check in nurse was EXTREMELY rude, her name was Candace and she just kept telling me they didn't treat pediatric patients. Mind you I was crying and my infant son was screaming. She had zero concern for my 3 month old or for me. Didnt offer any solutions like getting us in an ambulence, she was only concerned with telling me i was out of luck. Can you imagine telling a mother with an infant with a life threatening condition, "Too bad, go somewhere else." I pretty much had to insist they see him because I wasn't getting back in my car to drive to Hurley with the chance of his lung collapsing on my way there. After insisting and being threatened to have me removed, my son was seen and I got an apology from a supervisor. Thanks, but hire better people! I will never ever ever go to this hospital again. She was the most heartless nurse I've ever encountered and should not in any way be in charge of helping people in crisis situations. read more

Was taken there by ambulance from an urgent care for shortness of breath and chest pains. They did absolutely nothing. Ordered an angio CT stat. Nothing was stat there. My heart rate was rising,blood pressure in the 200s oxygen plummeting even though I was on oxygen. All those were going off on machine. Nobody came even though I rang the bell numerous times. When she finally came I told her to get me out of there. Ended up having a heart attack. All my drs told me to never go there again. And believe me I won't. They weren't even busy. Of course they have removed the reviews section on the page. I had good experiences when having surgery's here. But having to come through the ER and deal with horrible staff and lack of care is something I will never do again. BF was in horrible pain. Could barely walk. Was in bathroom in ER lobby. He couldn't stand up and almost passed out. I had to go out and ask for help 3 times before I got help. Was only one other patient in the ER. While employees stood around on their phones. They acted as though we were inconveniencing them. Char was wonderful and helped us once in a room. He could barely move and was crying in pain. The disgusting charge nurse walked in and asked what the problem was. I said we are in the ER asking for help and he was in severe pain. She rudely walked out. I asked for a bedpan because he wasn't able to get up. The charge nurse came back in, some of his BM had came out on the bed. Shamed him for having a BM. She complained about the smell and was demanding to know why he wasn't on a bedside commode since he had walked in. He did not walk in. He came in in a wheelchair. Which I told her. Watching him cry and shake in pain while a nurse was rude and belittling was very upsetting. I cleaned him up and took more care of him than the staff. They never offered help. I've worked in hospitals and in healthcare for 15 years. I would never treat a patient this way. Will never go there again. We normally go to Lapeer. Filed a complaint. Will be following up everyday. Do not go here if you want good care. Go to Hurley for real care. Read google reviews saying the same from other experiences. read more

My brother had a stroke three weeks ago. He has been on the second floor icu, the fifth floor icu and now he is on the 9th floor. On each of these floors the nurses have been compssionate, caring and attentive. They are knowledgeable about my brother's condition and have alerted his doctors when they have been concerned about changes in his condition. My family is grateful for their dedication and expertise and all they continue to do on my brother's behalf. I appreciate the kindness I have received from the people in the lobby who conduct the visitor checkin to all of the people who have cared for him on the respective floors he has been on. Last December my mother was admitted to McLaren for a weeks stay. The people who cared for her were also knowledgeable and caring. They assisted us in finding hospice care for her at the end of her weeks stay. The monthly, follow up grief support that they have provided to me and my family has been helpful. We are grateful for the expertise and efforts of the people we have encountered here especially in light of the challenges of COVID and other challenges health care workers face on a daily basis. I waited almost 48 hours. Absolutely no help. Told me that I fell asleep, I missed my turn and my problem was not as important. I can not go to either McClaren or Hurley. Even bleeding profusely out of my face. Even the after hours spot by Hurley wouldn't help. I wouldn't suggest either of these. Maybe?!?. Ascension Genesis? I butterfly stitch myself. I had 2 separate bad experiences with McLaren-Flint. My son went to ER due to severe vomiting and abdominal pain. He had recently been in a car accident. He was sent home and told he had the flu. The vomiting became worse and worse. I took him to his pediatrician and my son had 8 splenic fractures. He was transported by ambulance to another facility. I was told he could have bled out. The second situation happened when I had surgery for a broken tibia. I couldn't walk. The night attendant became annoyed when I asked for the bed pan. She left me on the bed pan, which ended up overflowing on to my sheets. I called again and she came in the room and told me, "You can stay on the bed pan all day for all I care." I reported her to superiors and filed a formal complaint but nothing was ever done. No discipline at all. I will never use McLaren-Flint again. read more

This has given em sickening feelings in my stomach fro hoe much this hospital has been lack of helping patients to get better for any treatments b...,, inexcusable! One of my dear friends s aunt almost could have died from this hospital by iccu, they have performed cpr on her until her blood pressure came back norma again. Unfortunately, cardiology department were so afraid to perform bypass heart surgery on my friends aunt due to high risk. Things turned out unfair and helpless... cardinal logo department thought it would be best for my friends aunt being transfer to university of michigwn hospital in Ann Arbor where she has some of her doctors ho work there.. it took like fome ever do thie transfer thing for this ooor patient, she has suffered painful heart attack for nine days in as a row........ Fortunately, My friend s aunt already has being transferred to on of the beet hospitals in us over in Cleveland Clnic where she get excellent treatment for her heart case... Mclaren hospital and their subsidiaries are the most offputting, rude, negligent, and downright degrading system I've ever encountered. The person that runs this hospital must be quite the corporation guru, because the trickle down effect throughout the hospital makes it an absolute nightmare just to go and try to be seen or evaluated. from the nurses to the doctors, the treatment you receive them is nothing but degrading. My significant other shot himself in the foot with a nail gun while roofing, we have been here less than 30 minutes and we already have an IV, all checked into the room, met with the doctor, and we are an bout to go for X-ray. I'm only giving more than 1 star because there have been some very nice nurses. If somebody walks in saying they think they are having a heart attack, you don't hold them up with emptying their pockets and walking through a damn metal detector. You get them help right then and there! He finally gets through TSA and gets sent to the waiting room! Finally somebody comes out for him and they CONFIRM he's having a heart attack! My father in law has a pace maker which shocked him meaning that he could have lost his life if that hadn't worked. Thank god that did work because the doctors at this hospital don't. If this was a contest on worst patient care McLaren would win hands down! Let me first state that this is not a reflection of the nursing staff. They did their job well. They treated my mom the best they could and the reason for this horrible review are issues that are completely out of their control. That being said my moms treatment by McLaren was horrible. My pets get better and more intensive care at the vet than this. My mom came in thru ER 3x's only to be told she was dehydrated and given an IV of fluids and sent home before they FINALLY realized a person losing 30+ lbs in a little under a month is not normal! She had outpatient surgery there and they sent her home at 10PM with no pain meds, no nothing. She barely made it into her home and to bed that night. She passed out the next day and had to be transported back to the hospital. We had had enough of McLaren and their awful treatment of her. We made the choice to have her taken to Hurley. Thankfully they actually cared for her! Unfortunately they not only had to care for her illness but also try to undo the awful care and bad choices McLaren had made with her. My heart is heavy even typing this but we lost her a short time later. Too much damage had been done for her to recover. While it's unfortunate that we do not have enough documented proof to hold McLaren responsible it also wouldn't bring my mom back. I'm not writing this review in an attempt to slam McLaren but rather as a warning because I would hate to see any other families go thru the sadness and heartbreak we have went thru. Never again will I or any of our family members go to McLaren again. And all I can say to anyone out there reading this is no matter where your loved one is follow your gut and question everything and anything that doesn't seem right or feel right! My 78 year old mother broker her hip and my father unfortunately had the ambulance take her to Mcclaren. While she did get right in and to a room and then admitted within a few hours, that is where the positive stops. The ER nurses were uncaring at best and rude and loud at worst. When she got admitted,They let her lay there for 4 days with a broken hip waiting for surgery because other fractures had come in that were higher priority, whatever the hell that means. Thankfully I was able to sit with her in her room because the nursing staff was pretty much useless. She developed hospital induced delirium on the second day. When I asked the hospital manager (who was speaking to me on day 3 even tho I requested to talk to her on day 2) told me it was "White Coat syndrome." I googled that to find out it has something to do with blood pressure and nothing to do with delirium and hospitals. Pretty sad the Hospital Manager told me the worng thing. I asked if anything could be done, if they could give her meds for it, how long it would last, etc, and they had no answers for me and one doctor even told me she might never come out of it. No one offered any meds for it. The nurses were extremely loud well into the night (past midnight) and I couldn't sleep without the door shut and noise canceling headphones due to their laughing, yelling and carrying on. I witnessed aids not changing gloves between patients and at least 3 nurses were sick with covid/flu-like symptoms. They would leave her on her bedpan for hours. Then, when it was time to release her to the rehab, they failed to test her for covid before transport. When she arrived at the rehab she tested positive (not surprising considering there were sick nurses on the floor and the terrible PPE habits) and the rehab made her go back to the hospital and she had to sit in ER for hours waiting on another transport to a facility that takes covid patients.Thankfully the rehab (Medilodge in Frankenmuth) was amazing and the polar opposite of McClaren. However, when she got home and started getting PT thru McClaren, the issues started all over again. Therapists not showing up or calling. Another one showing up sick with the flu and a third being rude to her (bully like behavior). These are only a few of the MANY issues we encountered during her stay...oh yeah, forgot to mention they put a woman in her room with her who "Very likely has MRSA," according to the infectious disease doctor who was treating her. thankfully she tested negative for it. But if they considered it even a possibility, why put her in a room with another patient???? If you care about your family, DO NOT TAKE THEM TO MCCLAREN!!!! read more

This hospital is severely understaffed. There so not seem to be protocols for what order to treat patients in the ER. I sat for 16 hours with a dislocated shoulder and was only seen when I was because my mother was insistent with the nurses. I could have been driven home to Indiana and back before I was seen. People who came in after me with things like possible glass in their foot, upset stomach and sore throat were treated before I was seen. Very sad. I will never go back. I should have gone to the hospital in Owosso which is where I was when my injury occurred. I would not give this hospital any stars. But 1 was my only option. read more

I will never go to this hospital again unless I absolutely have to and I would not recommend anyone to go here. I will be making a formal complaint about how I was treated in the emergency room and what happened the day I was discharged after being admitted for excruciating back pain. Nobody in need of medical care should have to experience what I did. The only good things I have to say are, the nurses who took care of me while I was in the hospital did their best to try to help me even though the residents weren't doing a good job managing my pain. The nurses were very friendly and understanding. The food service was great too. Also Dr. Borgeson gave specific instructions to Dr. Mohammad on what medications needed to be sent to the pharmacy to ensure that the pain would be managed after I got home until I was able to see my primary physician and Dr. Mohammad did not do as instructed. I went to pick up the prescriptions and half of the had not been sent. I spent a half hour on the phone between the hospital and the pharmacy trying to get it resolved. read more

Dirty, noisy place. I could hear the cleaning staff running a machine in the hallway, but they never cleaned the room I was in. Floors were filthy. Common places that other people had touched, like the bed rails & even walls were filthy. At 2 am, I had to open my room door & ask the nurses station to quiet down from laughing & excessive talking. 2 AM!!! Then, I get a dirty look & almost back talk from them. Really? It must be a party in there after midnight. One older nurse put this blue paper like tape over my IV port. This tape was not sticky. it was more like paper. So the IV needle could move around in the crotch of my arm. VERY UNCOMFORTABLE & PAINFUL. Finally found a kind nurse to change this blue paper like tape to something more stable. He used a type of tape that was more like a stained glass window to secure my IV port. Most of the nurses don't give a rats @$$ about the patient. That was clearly evident with my IV & the noise level at 2 am. read more

The hospital administration has set rules that add to the stress one already has when a loved one is ill. I took my 83 year dad in for a heart cath. My 86 year old mother was with us. Due to Covid they would only let one person in the cardiac waiting room. I had to wait in the main lobby. The doctor called me to the cardiac waiting room to tell us that my dad had to have open heart surgery and he was being admitted. While we were waiting for him to be move into a room a hospital staff member told me that I had to wait in the main lobby thereby removing the support I was giving to my mother and she was giving to me. I don't understand how it is safer for me to sit in a lobby for hours where hundreds of people are walking by me versus sitting in a corner in the cardiac waiting room where no one was is contact with me. There is no compassion when making these rules. Note that it is not at the height of the pandemic when millions of people were dying. And to that the fact that I am fully vaccinated. Update: 6 hours later and he has still not been moved into a room. We have been here nine and a half hours and my mom is tired and would like to go home. She was in the lobby and they would not let me go back to say good bye to my dad. That you could not "swap" out visitors. I was finally able to talk to the nurse in charge and she was able to let me get in to say good bye. read more

Visiting family in Clio,Mi. My sister got sick took her to emergency room, if that what you call . What a joke, I wouldn't bring my worst enemy there. There was two drunks there,one walked across the room and urinated all over the floor on the way to the bathroom. They called housekeeping, eight hours later no one came to clean the floor. People were walking in and tracking it all over. Staff put wet floor signs up and when it dried took signs down and said it is dry now. I believe it is one of the staff to sanitize the floor they are all capable. Drunk passes out on the furniture with pants all wet with urine. was told he is regular there, third day he came in. I didn't know this a detox facility. If you feel you take people in to somber up put them in a room away from real patients, we do not want to see this. Toliet over flowed staff took towels soak it up. 8 hours later wet towels still laying on the floor in the bathroom. My sister had several test and never was put in a exam room to wait in between. Pushed in the wheelchair back in the waiting room. I worked at Mayo Clinic in Rochester,Mn for 45 years this would never happen there. Clean up your act or close your doors. Very unprofessional. As a PhD nurse who has 22 years of staff/charge /mentor nursing at a teaching hospital (Fairview University Minnesota Medical Center) and teaching for 21 years at the LPN level, ADN level, and BSN level, I was appalled at what I observed for my care. I will share my list for you. 1. It all started with McLaren Flint wanting $871 up front for the procedure before even going through my insurance company. Then the patient access person asked if I wanted access to anything done at McLaren Flint. I still have not heard how I can get into this! 2. This was my first time at McLaren Flint hospital and I was not greeted by anyone and was unsure where to go. By the time I figured it out, the receptionist asked if I needed help. 3. I had to wait to get registered even though all 3 desks were empty of patients! They chose to ignore me. 4. When I was done, no one escorted me to where I was supposed to go and my husband could not hear what the lady in registration said. I figured it out again. 5. By the way, no one bothered to introduce themselves! 6. I got to registration in the pre-op area and this man took me to the pre-op area nurse's station where 3 nurses proceeded to discuss who was going to take me right in front of me! None of these nurses ever introduced themselves. I had to read their name badges (at least they were wearing those)! 7. Dr. Cory (Anesthesiologist) ordered zofran for nausea pre-op. He came to visit me and I explained that zofran does not work for me and general anesthesia and I requested a scolpolamine patch. His attitude that I observed was that he knew more than I did about my body. 8. The nurse (Margaret - had to read her name badge) placed it behind my left ear; however, when I got into the endoscopy suite, the nurse anesthetist (who did not identify herself and was upset that a anesthesiologist was not available as well as Dr. Moughrabieh (doing the procedure) that she took it out on me by "barking orders" to me. I felt belittled. She "ripped" my mask off and I believe that my nausea and inability to eat the last 2 days is because I no longer had the scolpolamine patch on. I know I did not have it on because when I got home I felt for it and it was no longer there. 9. The RN, Fred (the only one to introduce himself) who came to get me for my procedure was "put out" because I had asked to use the restroom prior to going into the endoscopy suite. When I was in Pre-op, I asked my pre-op nurse, Mallory, to make sure that when they called for me that I be allowed to use the restroom because I have bladder leakage when coughing and this does happen after bronchoscopies. 10. I did not witness any of the people in the endoscopy suite doing a "time out." A "time out" is when all people including the patient are involved in making sure that the right patient, right procedure, right allergies, right medications, right..... (can be found at: Time Out Surgical Checklist items (mnhospitals.org). Not sure how they could do it without me being awake at the time and Dr. was not there. 11. Dr. Moughrabieh did not come see me before or after the procedure. I was told he would see me before the procedure (I don't appreciate being lied to!) 12. When I was in the recovery room, again the nurse did not identify herself but, threw my clothes on the gurney and told me to get dressed without putting a siderail down. I was coughing up blood and she did not observe this and I had to spit it into my blanket. 13. This recovery room nurse also breached HIPAA as the gurneys are so close together that you can hear everything about the patient on either side of you. Not even the curtains were pulled! 14. My discharge instructions were printed and handed to me. But, were useless. 2 days out from my procedure, I have a fever, nausea, and can't cough up anything even though there is stuff down there. I will say that I didn't ask her to go through the discharge instructions because with her push to get me gone, I just wanted out of there! This hospital overall felt I was a nobody. I was just a number to them. Several safety issues were notified and HIPAA was breached! The items I typed here would not happen if I were on a unit or in the perioperative area with nursing students. All I heard the nurses say was, "When do you get off today?" "I am in a hurry to get out of here." 3 Nurses in the pre-op area were just standing at the nurses station talking when they could have been calming nerves down with their patients! I believe that all parties involved should be reeducated in therapeutic communication and common courtesy. Jerking your patient around and ripping masks off patient faces, removing a scolpolamine patch and not replacing is unacceptable! This was an order! I have yet to hear back from patient relations since I wrote my first letter yesterday (procedure was on Tuesday). So, I will never go back to McLaren Flint hospital. read more

I could choose a negative rating I would. Yesterday, my daughter was sent by her doctor to McLauren Flint due to severe abdominal pain. After checking in she was told to wait until she was called. This was at 11:39am, an hour and one half later she once again questioned when she was going to see a doctor. Their reply :4 1/2 to 5 hours. My daughter knew that something was very wrong with her and left the Flint facility and went on to McLaren, Clarkston where she was diagnosed with an appendicitis and was immediately transferred to McLaren, Oakland by ambulance where the appendix was removed. She was told by her surgeon that time was of the essence because her appendix was ready to burst. My review basically is why is this facility open for emergent care when it is evident there is NO TRIAGE in place. My daughter could have died while waiting for care there. Thank goodness the facilities in Clarkston and Pontiac took excellent care and can be facilities that are worth being called Medical Care Facilities. read more

I've been having a lot of recurring issues and have been to a couple different clinics. I came here because what I needed looked at was urgent. The doctor was really nice and prescribed me everything I needed finally! (Other places weren't giving me the dosage I needed for my antibiotics) although the lab test was down - they wouldn't let me leave without getting what I needed and based it on the visual exam. Nursing Left my friend waiting until 15 minutes prior to surgery to prep him. He told people for an hour and a half that he was in severe pain, ands was reassured for 1 1/2 hours that someone was coming in a minute. Don't expect quick nursing response, expect extremely slow. I get there and the ER argued with EMS! The ER got the test done but then nothing... I had already called my medical team at a real hospital, they came up with a plan and then we waited for McLaren. 3 1/2 hours later I am still trying to get my results (I going to guess no stroke). Possibly the worst hospital I have ever experienced. My mother recently had her hip replaced, not only did she have complications, but the cause was not communicated to us effectively. This is the case of a hospital system that clearly prides itself on their size and capabilities, but fails in its' execution and positive patient experiences. read more
