However, their director, along with their Board of Directors, have some strange animosity toward the people of this village and town, and they want to close the only library that has a high rating, even by the people utilizing this website. Grossly exaggerating issues with the building, they now voted to close it and open another. The cost to open another is far more expensive than doing repairs to this building. I hope to goodness to "save the library" people fight them every step of the way. It's clear they want to sell the building to some rich developer... and harm the people of this town. Shame on PLYMC.

Our local library offers more than just books. They have movies, puzzles, and a variety of…read moremagazines to borrow. There is an area called The Book Cellar that sells used books for $1, as well as fundraiser items such as T-shirts. They have weekly meetings for computer training, a knitting group, organization meetings and specialized classes for genealogy research and other popular issues. Throughout the summer there are reading camps, art camps and science camps based on age. Most of the activities are free, but require a registration to limit the number attending. There are several computers available for limited time use and helpful staff if you have problems locating specific information or materials. We even have a scheduled Book Mobile which visits surrounding community areas for the convenience of the elderly.

There were crumbs on the ground and table. ***Clutching my pearls*** Mind you, we cleaned up everything we brought with us, we put every table and chair exactly where it was when we first entered the space. We wiped down the tables with what little cleaning supplies we had. We were not provided with a vacuum or even wipes, so I'm not sure how we could have cleaned crumbs from the floor. Rob then proceeded to say that he was charging a $25 cleaning fee that would need to be paid prior our next training. I used to use this library all the time, and I will never step foot into this shithole ever again due to the way that myself and my organization were treated by Rob Liste. Fuck this library.

One of the docents told me that it is so packed that people can barely move through sometimes on the weekends. That said, I might suggest offering a slight discount rate for coming on a weekday. Even a couple bucks cheaper as an incentive to get people to come when it's less busy. I love the history and I love the thought and time that was put into each of the displays. Very interesting history and I know that I barely scratched the surface learning about this prominent Youngstown family. Loved the mid-century modern displays too. I'm sure it's appealing to my generation and older, because all of it is very familiar. Everyone who works here is very friendly. The gift shop sells some really cool vintage things and it is worth a look. I was excited to see that it was next to the Wick House, which is (or at least it was 30 years ago) a women's dorm where my friend once lived, so it was nostalgic to see that building. I hadn't realized it would be right next door. I believe that family was on the Titanic if my memory serves me correctly. Anyhow- do try to come during Christmastime to visit the Arns Museum. It's a great piece of local history.

However, my kids wanted to go and my 8-year old was able to get his own library card of which he was excited to get. Off we go, me and my three boys, we walk to the library. Yes, it is very, very close to my house. Once inside, I can tell a lot has changed for the better since my last visit many years ago. They have many computers to use for locating books or perusing the Internet. They have a fantastic kids room where they can read their reading level books, build puzzles, color, etc. They have several kid sized tables, chairs and bean bags for them to sit and enjoy whatever activity they are doing. Very neat and fun for the kids. I enjoyed watching my oldest son as he insisted in finding the books he wanted by himself. When he had trouble, he asked the assistants at the circulation desk instead of me because-he wanted to do it all by himself. So proud of my little guy. While he perused for books, my two younger boys played with puzzles and colored in the various coloring books. They each chose a book as well to bring home to read. This library is a great place to spend some time and great for the kids to have and keep an interest in reading. They also may kids reading programs throughout the year and having Story Time for the little ones once a week. We had a great time. An hour and half and 8-books checked out later, we were on our way home. It was a lot of fun.

The town is listed on the National Register of historic locations. The bridge was built 1831 and in 1920 they added the walking pedestrian bridge attached to it! Very nice feature!! This bridge is oldest in the state of Ohio that's still in operation today!!

An article in the Trumbull County Tribune Chronicle stated 'work is expected to begin in a couple of months' and should take approx 90 days to complete once started. The article also highlights the difficulties in getting the project underway, particularly due to the magnitude of the cost which is estimated in the winning bid of around $762,000. ----- Newton Falls Covered Bridge is the second oldest surviving covered bridge in the state of Ohio. The oldest is Roberts Bridge, built just two years earlier in 1829 and has the added distinction of being one of only 6 double-barrel, truss-designed bridges surviving in the United States. We visited the bridge early July (2023) and although it was closed to vehicle traffic, the covered pedestrian section was still actively being used by walkers and cyclists. The inscription on the land marker reads: "The Newton Falls covered bridge was built over the east branch of the Mahoning River around 1831. A crosswalk was added in 1921 for children crossing the bridge on their way to the school on Center Street. The Newton Falls bridge is considered the second oldest existing covered bridge in Ohio, the oldest covered bridge in use on its original site, the only covered bridge in the state with a covered crosswalk, and the last surviving covered bridge in Trumbull County. Built on the Town Lattice truss plan, the bridge is 123 feet long and twenty-four feet wide. It has a clear span of 101 1/2 feet and a sixteen foot-wide roadway. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, the structure is maintained by Trumbull County." ----- Unfortunately there is a slight error on the marker that needs correction! We ironically discovered the existence of Newton Falls covered bridge after conversation with a random stranger at another Ohio historic landmark - Lanterman's Mill. He learned of my love of covered bridges and told us of this drivable covered bridge that also happened to be on our way to another Ohio treasure - Chagrin Falls. So we detoured here. I couldn't help but smirk when I read it is "the only covered bridge in the state with a covered crosswalk" since I had just come from Lanterman's Mill covered bridge... another covered bridge IN THE STATE with a covered crosswalk. The marker was erected in 1999 and the Mill bridge was constructed in 1989. So technically the marker has been incorrect since it was first placed. FINAL THOUGHTS Hopefully the construction schedule will go as planned and maybe they will even have this beauty up and running by Christmas of 2023! Bet it would look fabulous draped in garland & icicle lights, and a mistletoe :-) 2023 / 16
