McKinley Memorial Library - McKinley Auditorium is part of the museum. Busts along each wall are of donors to the construction of the memorial & library.

Lunchtime exploration. I finally decided to stop and walk around this place I've driven by for…read moreyears. A Beaux-Arts style building with Greek and Roman themes memorializing President Wm McKinley on the site of the school where he started his education. The marble statue of McKinley stands in the center, surrounded by busts of the influential of the period. One side of the building houses the Niles Public Library, and the other side is a small museum and auditorium. A passionate museum docent met me at the locked door and recited an amazing amount of McKinley history. I mean she really was good. The museum displays were a little sparse, but I was impressed with a hand painted flag as well as a carved wooden book cover from China that contained a letter to President McKinley embroidered on silk. Major donors to the memorial are recognized by busts in the auditorium and the library. Notable names include Andrew Carnegie, who contributed to the library, and Joseph Butler, the founder of the Butler Institute of American Art, the first museum of American art. You never know what you might learn when you stop to investigate.

After being there for a few minutes one of the employees comes up and starts yelling at me for parking next to it incase they needed to collect the dumpster after telling her sorry it was our first time visiting she continues to yell at me for parking there and that I should have parked in the front parking. She insisted we didn't need to move when I said oh I'll just leave then. She kepts saying oh with the littles you don't have to leave. Well you thought I needed to move 3 minutes ago when you started this conversation yelling at me in front of them. Maybe for the future the staff should put a no parking sign in that spot then. Myself and my kids left. The car ride home my daughter kept asking why we got yelled at and had to leave. I mean truly everyone wonders why libraries are dying and no one goes well maybe some kindness from employees would go along way. The whole thing could have been approached differently. I won't be visiting again, there's plenty of other libraries with easier parking and nicer staff in the area to visit.

The librarians that work here treat customers like shit. My organization hosted a training here,…read moreand the next day we were called by Rob Liste, who, like the snob that he is, proceeded to explain that we left the room in disarray. Yes, disarray. Direct quote. There were crumbs on the ground and table. ***Clutching my pearls*** Mind you, we cleaned up everything we brought with us, we put every table and chair exactly where it was when we first entered the space. We wiped down the tables with what little cleaning supplies we had. We were not provided with a vacuum or even wipes, so I'm not sure how we could have cleaned crumbs from the floor. Rob then proceeded to say that he was charging a $25 cleaning fee that would need to be paid prior our next training. I used to use this library all the time, and I will never step foot into this shithole ever again due to the way that myself and my organization were treated by Rob Liste. Fuck this library.

Not very comfortable seating. I also wonder if they had handicapped people in mind when they came up with this new look-i DON'T think so. I go out of my way to go to the older libraries! Howland, & Cortland. They may be smaller, but I need a warm feeling environment to sit in a library-NOT a cold feeling, bright area. That's just me.
