In 2 years living in the rental we experienced 3 different management companies and GC was by far…read morethe worst. GC took the majority of our deposit on very petty items. We have never not received our full deposit. After moving out we returned to put out the trash bins and they still said we left trash. While trying to buy a house we asked to rent on a short term. GC wanted another deposit and 2x the rent. As time went by and got closer to the end of our lease they then were willing to work with us. We NEVER were late on rent and kept the place spotless. We were model residents.

I do not recommend renting from this company OR using them to manage your property…read more We recently had a maintence tech who came to fix an issue we had....after I had to follow-up 3 times about it. Then he said he needed to find something else wrong with the property to report otherwise he woudl get in trouble. So he took a picture of some chipped paint (that was there since we moved in) and turned that in. Mind you, we reported SEVERAL issues with the property during our move-in inspection report, but none of them have ever been addressed. They're making their techs find issues so they can charge the landlords more money for sending out people to the property unnecessarily. Anytime We've tried to get help with something they've made it as complicated as can be. The communication is chaotic and unorganized and poor. It's clear this company cares much more about making money than they do helping their tenants.

When Spaces was giving us a hard time with our application for the apartment, Jack worked with us to come to a completely reasonable agreements hat satisfied us both. We absolutely love living here. When we first moved in everything was in great condition and probably the best cleaning I've ever seen done by a landlord. Usually I find I have to go back and clean before I feel comfortable unpacking but we just settled right in. We did have some issues with odor with the carpeting as the previous tenants had undisclosed cats but RentGreat immediately came and fixed any requests we had the next day. Tom our maintenance guy is wonderful. He's incredibly accommodating and gets things fixed right away. He even takes off his shoes when he comes in to fix things which is awesome because in my last apartment maintenance destroyed my white rug only two days after I moved in with muddy shoes. In the first few days we moved in we were not fully unpacked and were shifting things around while he was in unit making repairs, and he offered me help. Overall they've went above and beyond for us so far and are truly the bomb-diggity.com of landlording. We're looking forward to living with them for many years.

Let me start by saying, I would never recommend doing any sort of business with the RentGreat…read moreAgency to my worst enemy. Unfortunately, I didn't have a choice as the building I was renting was purchased by a new owner who had Rent Great managing their properties during the end of my lease. As an educated and certified young professional working in forensics, this Company was screaming red flags from the second that they began communicating with me. Their website contained a page with staff names and the pictures of all the staff were pictures of babies. Nearly every email that was sent to me contained grammatical or spelling errors which I found extremely odd considering they claim to be an "accredited business."  I immediately felt like I was doing business with a bunch of uneducated children.  Before even asking me what I would be doing once my lease ended, they sent me multiple emails with move out instructions. I found it weird that this was the first communication I was receiving from them as the new owner. It took a turn for the worst when one day the power and heat in the building's stairwell, that the owners are required to provide per the terms of the lease, were not operating. This was the second time that this had happened in under two months. I emailed the new owners as soon as I noticed the outage as I feared that we would not have hot water nor heat for another 30 degree night. I also left a voicemail and submitted a maintenance request but heard nothing until the following morning. I received an email stating "you should certainly contact your former landlord and the former owners to ask why they have had this shut off even after we Transferred this service to our name. They are the ones who stuff of the power not us." Please notice the lack of professionalism, accountability, spelling errors, and grammar in this email. Given that they were new owners, I was confused why I or the previous owner would be responsible for finding a resolution. So, I called COMED and they informed me that the current management of the new owners had to contact them in order for services to resume. I informed the COMED agent that I was told by the new owners that I or the previous owner had to figure it out. The agent advised me to call the city to report the management agency. After the call, I emailed RentGreat expressing my frustration with not only the situation but the unprofessional manner that they were handling this. They quickly replied with the email attached stating that the situation was all my fault since I had called COMED reporting and outage, that I made the right decision to move out and that I was a nasty person. I was extremely taken back by the response considering this was coming from an "A+ Rated" Business on the BBB which they loved to share. It began to feel more like a threat and personal attack to ensure that I move out as soon as possible. I shared the email with my friends and family, and they were all stunned. Out of extreme frustration, a relative angrily called and confronted the individual that was sending the aggressive emails. Shortly after this call, I got an email informing me that they had received a "threatening and violent call" that they recorded and allegedly reported to the police. RentGreat "demanded that I cooperate with the police investigation regarding this matter." Before I finished reading the email, I received a phone call from a man named Jack at RentGreat who threatened that I cooperate with their police investigation and hung up before I could even speak. Minutes after the call ended, they sent me an email with a picture of my relative stating "They are assigning a detective from the criminal division to assist in this investigation" because their cowardly employee was seeking medical assistance for severe emotional distress signing the email "Sincerely, jk ." I couldn't help but laugh that their employee could hide behind a screen sending such unprofessional, malicious emails, but couldn't take it when it was given right back to her. If this employee is reading this, I recommend getting a real education and learning how to work in the field of business where you provide professional services to customers. I would also recommend growing some thicker skin if you're going to hide behind your screen firing off such vicious and hateful emails to individuals that are doing business with you.   If readers get anything from this review, I hope it is to NEVER do business with RentGreat. If you do, make sure you keep all the receipts of the comical yet unprofessional emails they will send you! It was comforting knowing that several other tenants in my building shared similar horrendous experiences with this company. Thanks RentGreat, you were so far from great! I look forward to never doing business with unprofessional, uneducated individuals like you ever again .

Apparently, 16 months after I escaped the building in a mad dash to avoid getting hammered with a five figure roof and service elevator repair special assessment that had been rumored to be on the way for many months, my name and number are still in the intercom register and I can freely let people into the building's lobby, where all the tenants' UPS/FedEx/Amazon deliveries are just haphazardly strewn about in the mail room. The mail room has camera surveillance, but given the number of people in that building who used to complain about stolen packages, they either don't work or (more likely) the maintenance guy is too busy looking at his phone in the basement to ever check. Life hasn't been perfect since I left that building, and house ownership has its own challenges, but I will never miss being at the mercy of an association management company whose inattention to details like these is perhaps the only thing that stacks higher than the number of dollar bills needed to fix that neglected roof and elevator. I spent 3 months at war with a renter neighbor who destroyed property and played deafenly loud house music every night from 1-4 a.m. Did it matter to TMS? No, not until they learned that the people who owned the unit hadn't disclosed the presence of the renter and she could collect a $500 fine for that. (I only know about this because the entire building was accidentally copied on the email where they demanded the fine be paid.) The third floor had a massive, I mean massive, pantry moth problem that persisted across years of complaints. I finally just resorted to putting a trap outside my unit door, which was extremely off-putting to come home to but caught hundreds of them (literally hundreds!) every few weeks until I had to replace the trap and catch hundreds more. I sent photos and asked what in the world the maintenance guy was doing instead of cleaning the place, and I didn't even get a response until I let slip that a large block of unit owners were considering a bulk sale of their units and things like this were creating issues with saleability, and TMS wanted in on the gossip. The bugs were still all over the hallway walls as I moved out. I wonder, if like my phone number, they're still there today. If I had no scruples I could just buzz myself in and find out! These issues were legion during the decade-plus I lived in the building and they "managed" it. All the while, our monthly association fees continually trended upward -- I was paying roughly $220 when I moved in in 2005 and roughly $650 when I moved out -- and all the while, despite worsening service and lazy moves like dumping packages in the mail room instead of having them delivered to units like they used to be, the building's financial reserves were always hanging by a thread anyway. Prayers up to those holding the hot potato when that special assessment comes/came due. Unless you were part of the block of people who voted against selling the whole building, in which case pass me a mug of your tears and watch me drink it. I'd left a scathing review of TMS back in 2013, following the neighbor incident and a subsequent water leakage problem, among other details I've mercifully paved over in my memory, but I decided to delete it just in case TMS punishes tenants with even worse service in exchange for speaking freely. In between posting and deletion, I received a message from someone who wanted some more details because their building was considering TMS for its management. I didn't see that message until years later and I'm sorry I missed it. This, following yet another reminder that countless people across the Chicagoland area can still waltz into a building they no longer live in via the intercom system -- and probably could while I was living there, complaining as part of the choir about packages going missing -- is my make-good on that. I'm free of that building and free of Tairre Management, and if your building is contemplating bringing them in, I urge you to choose freedom as well.
