While I knew the lab was across the street from Main Campus, I did make one wrong turn before I found where I was supposed to go. They could really use numbers on the buildings to help navigate people. There was only a half dozen people in the waiting area in a huge space that could easily hold hundreds. I checked in at the main desk with two friendly, kind and communicative women. All of my check ins with receptionists have all been positive, and informative/helpful. I completed my urinalysis collection on site and waited to be called. I turned in all my DIY tests and sat to have my blood drawn. I verified my information about a hundred times, but it also helped distract me from the needle. No one likes needles, really. I had 5 vials taken and when she was wrapping up my arm she chose a teal tape to match my shirt. On the previous Monday, the phlebotomist picked pink to also match my shirt. It's the little things that go a long way to make us feel human, rather than a number. Again, I was in and out in no time and felt that I was on the right path to taking care of my own health.

BILLING DEPARTMENT - UPTOWN INTERNAL MEDICINE SPECIALISTS IN NEW ORLEANS, LA. This billing…read moredepartment is terrible. I had an appointment with Dr. Friedman on April 1. I knew I did not have a co-pay for my appointment but the front desk made me pay anyway. They received the EOB from my medical insurance company and it is now two months later. The co-pay still has not been reimbursed to me. I have been on the phone with billing numerous times, I even sent a letter requesting reimbursement, but this department has never confirmed when a reimbursement check will be issued. It is now June 3rd and I have not received confirmation that a check is in the mail to me. DR. FRIEDMAN DESERVES FIVE STARS. THE ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT DESERVES NONE.

I have suffered from HORRIBLE allergies my entire life, and all the inconveniences that accompany…read morethem. (such as, "But why can't you sleep at my house with my cat? I totally vacuum!") I thought I was pretty much in for a life full of pet avoidance and pet owner avoidance (it really limits the dating pool!), and then I found Dr. Wilson's office. After confirming all of my life-long suspicions with a basic scratch test (severe allergies include: housedust, dust mites, cats, dogs, horses, oak and other trees, all grasses, and most weeds. As luck would have it, I am not allergic to birds, cows, or cockroaches. Woo!), the situation looked pretty hopeless. I figured Dr. Wilson would sentence me to life in a plastic bubble and be done with it. But no! It was not my fate to be the next Bubble Girl! Not only did Dr. Wilson tell me that my allergies could be at least significantly reduced by immunotherapy (allergy shots, yo), but I could (with training by his awesome nursing staff) administer these shots myself to avoid having to pay an office visit co-pay WEEKLY. People, this is HUGE. That would have broken my li'l piggy bank. I only pay an office visit co-pay when I receive a new vial of allergy serum, which is about once every 6 weeks. It is surprisingly easy to self-administer allergy shots, even for the slightly squeamish (doesn't hurt at ALL), and has already made a HUGE difference. Also, everyone in Dr. Wilson's office is a sweetheart. He must have asked me a million times how I was feeling this last visit (though I think that was due in part to the fact that my first visit with him was after my boyfriend passed away last year) . . . but still, how nice of him to remember and actually care! Even the woman who does the billing is nice as can be! I can't say enough nice things about everyone at Dr. Wilson's office. If every doctor operated his or her practice like this, I wouldn't dread the occasional check-ups! Highly recommended, folks.
