Been seeing Dr Alvarez since 2008 with no complaints. Love Harold her office guy. Very good doctor, attentive to detail and very caring.

Great doctor, extremely unprofessional staff, and unfortunately the staff outweighs clients…read more His receptionist staff is shockingly rude and unprofessional. I had heard stories from family members, but never experienced anything myself until recently. Longer story below, but the short version is that I asked for a replacement perception, and the very first response from the self described office manager was "You're a grown adult and should know better than to lose it." I had no previous contact with her for her to respond like that. I was flabbergasted by the response and entered the clinic to confront her about her statement and was bombarded by accusations of abusing my medications, threatened to have police called, all while just standing at the window waiting to talk to the doctor. I was dismissed as a patient due to "disrespect towards the staff." Apparently South Shore Medical has no concerns for their client base, and allows their staff to talk to clients however they please. I have been a patient of doctor Dr Rooney's for nearly a year, but several of my family members have been his patients for many years. I had recently had an appointment to refill my medication, I am prescribed Adderall which helps me with my studies in nursing school. I received 3 months worth of prescriptions, but didn't need to fill them immediately because I had a majority of my last prescription remaining. When I did finally run out, I was unable to locate where I had put my prescriptions but thought I could easily have them replace since they had replaced an expired prescription with ease in the past. When I arrived at the clinic, the receptionist explained that the policy prevented her from replacing the prescriptions, and my only option was to schedule a new appointment. I wasn't happy to hear about the policy I wasn't aware of, but I scheduled the new appointment and left. When I got to my car I did one more pass to see if I could find the papers, but I was unable to. Because it was the week of finals, I was on my way to a study session and would not have benefited from it as much as if I had my prescribed medication, so I decided to call back into the office to see if there was any way they may be able to help me. When the girl picked up the phone I explained to her that I had just been inside, but I was hoping there was someone that could authorize at least one prescription because I was studying for finals. She responded by saying "No that's not our policy, you are a grown adult and should know better than to lose these things." I was immediately angered and hung up the phone to speak with her in person. I walked back into the clinic, and when I confronted her, I was immediately insulted several times, told I should know better, I was taking narcotics, I could be selling my prescriptions, she wouldn't listen to any responses. She had an answer for everything, including how apparently pharmacies don't check ID's when filling narcotics so I could sell them to anyone, and how the doctor had bent over backwards to replace my prescription last time. That is until she found out the prescription that was replaced was expired and their policy allowed for that. When I asked to speak with the doctor, I was refused and threatened with the police being called. When I asked why I was never made aware of their policy against replacing prescriptions I was handed a copy of the controlled drug contract I signed which stated they where not responsible for lost drugs, and prescription would not be filled at night or on the weekends. When I said told her I didn't want to replace lost drugs, I need a reprint of a prescription, she told me "As a nursing student I should know that a drug and a prescription are the same thing." When I told her "As a nursing student I know a drug is a medication, a pill, and a prescription is a piece of paper allowing me to received the drug. They are not the same thing." I was asked to leave. They have my pharmacy on record and can easily check if my prescriptions have been filled or not, but they refused.
