This is my final review and testimony for McKee Asset Management after using them for roughly 3 years. I had to break my lease 1 month early due to a new job opportunity in Denver, CO. I called Briana Blakney, explained my situation, and asked if she could work with me to get it rented ASAP. Briana genuinely bent over backwards for me, and was in touch daily until my move out date. She ended up getting the town house rented early, expedited the process each step of the way, and saved me 5 weeks in rent. This was a huge financial relief. As with any last minute cross country move, there were a variety of complications, none being McKee Asset Management's fault, but they did help me each step of the way. They honestly made my stressful situation much better and without them it would have been more difficult overall. I've dealt with a variety different property management companies, and some private owners; I can confidently say that after 3 years McKee has earned 5 stars. If you have an opportunity to use them, then I would highly recommend it. They're responsive, friendly, and accommodating. read more

We have used Mckee Properties to manage our condo in San Diego for two years.Being in the Real Estate Business ourselves probably makes us a bit pickey.We expect service that we strive to provide to our own clients. I am so pleased to say that McKee Properties far exceed our expectations! Brendan and his entire team are wonderful! Brendan is always working to make sure our property is rented and cared for. We called about seeing a new rental listing with McKee Properties in Coronado and within the hour we were viewing the place that eventually became our home. The application process went smoothly and efficiently. We wanted to get in the house prior to moving to measure for furniture and without hesitation, a time was set. Move-in was easy and on our timeline. The items that need tended to were fixed as soon as they were addressed. Our Property Mgr, Brendan, is incredibly quick to answer emails in a thorough and friendly fashion. Everyone in the office that we have interacted with have been kind and courteous. Review of McKee Property Manager for owners. Before 2020 (pre-Covid), the property management was excellent and top-notch. During Covid and after Covid, property management was forgetting to do the yearly routine things like inspection, lease renewal, etc. In 2023 and 2024, the new Maintenance Department of the property management is just fleecing the rental owner with high-priced, substandard and repeated maintenance some of which the tenant is responsible for fixing while treating the rental property like a hotel room or short-term rental instead of a one year lease long-term rental. In 2024, the maintenance department of the property manager and the Property manager took home 47% of the rental income while the owner only took home 20% of the rental income. Every time the tenant calls the property manager like in a hotel concierge, we get charged for something that the tenant is responsible for fixing. Rough Example: $25,000 (Rent income a year) - $2,500 (10% McKee Management Fees) - $5,750 (23% HOA fees) - $1,500 (6% Property taxes) - $1,000 (4% Insurance) - $9,250 (37% McKee Maintenance) ================================ $5,000 (20% NET INCOME (of owner) a year) but taxed by the government. What happened to the good old McKee property management? The new McKee property manager with the new business model of fleecing the rental owner with maintenance fees is like all about greed which happens with short-term rentals. Rental owners, watch your statement every month and net income. The old business model of McKee for property owners was 100% better, otherwise owners will earn less because everyone wants a piece of the rental income pie. OLD BUSINESS MODEL: "Specializing in managing single family homes and condos in the greater San Diego area. Full 7 day/week services include management, leasing, and "emergency" maintenance. Owners are protected by our exclusive risk management services designed to reduce landlord liability." Their NEW BUSINESS MODEL is for the owner to pay for all the maintenance even if the tenant is responsible for the upkeep and damages. If the tenant wants the ceiling fan to be cleaned, then charge that maintenance to the tenant not the owner. If the tenant broke something like the glass shelf in the fridge and wants it to be fixed or replaced, then charge the fix or replacement to the tenant not the owner. If the light burned out, then charge the replacement to the tenant not the owner. read more

We've been using McKee for 12 years as our property manager for a condo that we rent out. They've been great all this time. Very reliable, customer service is always great, responsive and do a great job screening for good tenants. I chose them to manage our rental because I also had a great experience renting an apartment that they managed back in the early 2000's. My wife and I have had a positive experience with McKee Properties. When we called about an initial showing for the townhome we are renting as tenants, they called back the same day and scheduled a showing for the following day. Brendan and Ben both showed up on time and gave us ample opportunity to inspect the property before deciding to rent. The application process was straightforward and we are fortunate everything fell in to place. We are thankful for the continued responsiveness and professionalism of Brendan and his staff. I was so excited to takeover a lease for a 2/2.5 in the village. Long story short: Had been in touch about taking over a lease and they were so slow at responding it took an entire month to even reach the point we were at. Tenants became angry with me because McKee told them I wasn't responsive- meanwhile I had left texts, voicemails, and an email. I was ghosted by staff that had been hard to get ahold of in the first place, and a week later my signed contract was voided with no warning. Briana was ultimately unprofessional in her behavior, gave contradicting information and instructions that cost me time, and an awful communicator, if she was even communicating at all. I have had interest in several of their properties since, but never apply because I feel they will take my application money and provide disappointment in return. Very unfortunate! read more

I recently moved into an apartment managed by McKee Properties. I was having a hard time with my apartment search when I came across their listing. Brendan and his team were extremely helpful and very professional. They made sure all my questions were answered prior to applying and moving in. I have rented from private owners for twelve years and I confess that going back to having a property management company had me a little worried. Seems that worry was undue. Brendan was approachable and accommodating during the application process, which was quick and easy. A few months in to tenancy now and Briana and the team have been friendly and responsive to maintenance needs. To top it all off, they make paying rent a breeze. I am surprised to read such negative reviews. I have been a tenant of Mckee's for almost 6 years now and all my service needs have been handled promptly. Mckee manages for owners so perhaps some renters have owners that don't want to fix issues in their homes? Matthew with maintenance has always gotten back to me right away and resolved a fridge, microwave, garbage disposal, washer and dryer which all were replaced at some point in the years I lived in the rental home. I would rent a home managed by them again. I also like that we can pay our rent on line. read more

I moved into an apartment in Cortez Hill. I am 100% satisfied-- the move in process was seamless and the management set up everything I needed with the HOA. I was a renter with McKee from 2006-2009 & it stills makes me upset when I remember my experiences with them. My heater was broken for 7 months & no one could coordinate getting it fixed, had a broken window that took forever for them to fix. During all this they raised my rent which I contended but no one would return my phone calls. And then when I had had enough and moved out I asked if I could clean the apartment myself, was told yes. I asked for a pre-move out walk-thru & was directly what to clean. Did it myself & then got $125 deducted from my deposit because I didn't turn in a receipt from a professional cleaning service. When I called & asked what the cleaning fee was for I was told among other things it was for carpet cleaning & my apartment was all hardwood floors. Extremely frustrating & terribly unpleasant experience. read more

Our apartment was robbed the other day while I was home and one of the things they took were my keys. Issac was over within an hour of me calling to change all of our locks. I truly appreciated that he fit us in so last minute and on a Friday afternoon/evening too! Issac was awesome as well as Patrick when I called about the robbery. I moved into my house in April. I took pictures and wanted the old refrigerator replaced. They immediately called and brought out a new one. I bought a fan and Matt came out and hung it for me before I moved in. Matt goes out of his way to make sure everything is running smoothly, and I am a happy renter. I have never had such a quick response to all maintenance issues with a Management company. They evened called to see that the plumbing issue was resolved that I had, and asked if anything else was needed. I highly recommend them as a Property Management company and Matt as a #1 Facility Manager. He cannot be beat! read more

Glad I read these reviews as this company seems to fall in line with my quick experience. I would imagine a little more tact and service when you're looking to spend well over $30,000 with someone in a year. I understand slightly the desire to verbally "pre qualify" someone when speaking over the phone. While extremely tacky, it seems some "realtors" state the credit requirements. What I found obnoxious was the short toned women that answered their phone. While stating the above, she informed me if I was going to come alone without my fiancé to view, or send my brother (as we live in Orange County) "to make sure whoever goes takes a lot of pictures and videos, because they won't show the property more than once". Excuse me? You're about to spend over 30k and you're treated like someone that should be grateful for their time and you're a deadbeat. Zero customer service relations. I wouldn't deal with them. Those looking for a place, and especially those who want their properties managed, they would represent your interests terribly. Avoid! read more

I lived in a McKee managed property from June '11-June'12. When I moved in there were many problems with the unit: Loose/Broken Toilet Seat Bent, off-track screen door Spots on the carpet Broken bathroom sink stopper Missing refrigerator parts When I was showed the unit, their rep tried to show me the balcony and the screen door literally came off the track and fell down. It had a 45 degree bend in the frame and was hell to keep on the track. The rep told me he would have it replaced before I moved in and I believed him, he didn't and it wasn't. Most of the issues I had were not taken care of and I decided to live with them after multiple work orders that were never filled. I requested a replacement vegetable drawer for the fridge, as there was nothing there and a replacement door rack for the freezer so I could keep things on the freezer door and they never handled it. At one point someone was sent to look at it and he told me parts were hard to find and he would call me within a week to let me know if he found it...still waiting on that call. In November '11 the unit above's plumbing went bad and I developed a steady leak through one of my light fixtures. I called their emergency line and they told me to put something under it and they would check it out on Monday (this started on a saturday.). As promised, one of their onsite repair men, I believe his name was Keith, came out, but the repair was beyond his training. They sent out another plumber who solved the light fixture problem by cutting a huge hole in the ceiling above the tub so it would drain down into the tub. Short-term solution, I expected him to come back and finish within a couple of days. Their plumber, whose company name I cannot remember left a mess of mildewed drywall and insulation in my tub for me to clean up. He asked for a bag for the larger pieces of drywall so that he could put them in the trash, but proceeded to leave them on my doorstep as he left, a$$hole. After 2 weeks of showering under a hole in the ceiling I call McKee to complain and they tell me they hadn't fixed it because they could not coordinate a time with the neighbors above to come into their unit to fix the pipes, ridiculous. During that phone call they tell me that they will be giving the plumber a key to their place and go in so they can fix it. A few days later, they finally fix it. 2+ weeks to fix a leaky pipe! Luckily for me, when they came to patch up the hole they also fixed the bathroom sink's plug and bent the screen door back in place so it would at least stay on the track, though it never really closed properly. They had the nerve to raise my rent for the next year by $25, so I left. All-in-all, I loved my unit's location and that is why I stayed there. The management was horrendous and couldn't get their act together. I do not recommend McKee, to anyone. read more

We've lived in a McKee property for 9 years now and have had a fantastic experience with them! Director of Maintenance Matthew Tregidga is ALWAYS quick to contact me about any issues that need to be addressed or repaired and usually has someone out here within 1-2 days to take care of it. Our favorite "do it all" handyman Isaac is absolute top notch as well. He has been out here 3 times now and does very high quality work with a great customer service focused attitude! McKee Commercial, specifically Ashley Huss, is the best Property Manager in town. I have worked with Ashley first as a Customer and now as a Contractor. I used to work for a very "picky" employer and had gone through a few property management companies before we found and stayed with McKee. Their online portal made it easy to submit requests and Ashley would always respond on the same day no matter how ridiculous the request. Now I work for a Roofing Contractor who McKee uses to service their Clients. Ashley puts the needs of her Clients first, even if its 9pm on a Friday night! If her Client has a roof leak, she is working to try to resolve it as fast as possible. read more

I've used McKee to manage my condo in Little Italy for 3 years now and couldn't be happier with the level of service and professionalism. After firing my last property manager I was skeptical about signing on with another company to manage my property, but McKee Asset Management has exceeded my expectations. They rented my condo quickly, for more rent than my last property manager was getting. We've had the same tenants for 3 years and I've never had an issue with McKee. Rental owners. Do not use this mgt. company for rental. After the first year agreement continuing lease becomes month to month. McKee hits lessor with so called "lease renewal fees" that are bogus. Their was no lease renewal as they postured. They do not mgt. the property. I had a burglary. McKee failed to get police report as requested. Non-lease contract people occupied the unit with out McKee even being aware. Lessee damages upon vacancy were extensive and beyond the security deposit. The lessee failed to pay the last month rent in blatant violation of the contract. McKee made no effort to collect last months rent owed and were dismissive of their contractual obligation to collect that and the damages. This an incompetent rental property mgt. company that is more interested in its own fees than your property. read more

I have been living in a privately owned condominium managed by McKee for almost five years, and I don't really have any complaints except for rent increases without updates to the condominium. All in all, they have been pretty diligent with satisfying us as tenants. Matthew Tregidga is an awesome maintenance manager and ensures that any repairs or maintenance issues are done ASAP. I only give them one star so that I can write and post my review. If I could give them less, I would. The narrative of our experience would be pages long, so below are a few from the highlight reels. Before we lease the unit, we're walking through the house with McKee's leasing agent who tells us the house is equipped with a heater and an air conditioner. As its fall, there is no need to use the AC for months. Fast forward to July when the summer heat waves start rolling in. I go to turn on what I thought was the AC, it starts up then shuts down. I place a call to McKee informing them the AC is out so they send a repair man over. Repair man calls to tell me there actually is no AC in our house. McKee denies they represented the house had AC and disputes the issue with me. Eventually, they agree to install 1 ceiling fan, to be located in the low foot traffic dining room of our house. Very useful. Five weeks later, no fans and it's 85 degrees inside our house, at night. The heat has become unbearable and our dog pants incessantly as he sprawls on the kitchen floor to try and cool down. An after hours heated phone call, literally and figuratively, with Matthew led to him asking me what I wanted him to do about not having installed the fan. I said I wanted fans installed like they told me they were doing to which he told me 'well I want a Ferrari.' Brilliant. The water heater broke and flooded our house. Instead of sending a plumber, the owner sent her brother, an electrician, to fix the plumbing issue. While removing the water heater in our kitchen, I come home to find one of them smoking a cigarette inside our house, which as a non-smoker is disgustingly repulsive. While removing the water heater they punctured the side and it exploded in our kitchen making the flooding even worse. The resulting mold on our belongings, repairs, and being displaced from our house for a week was absurd. So the indoor cig smoking electrician who was sent to fix our plumbing issue actually made the problem significantly worse and ruined my wife's boots, handbags and clothing. A few honorable mentions: - sinks regularly clog - garbage disposal stops working repeatedly. McKee's solution: drops off a specialized wrench for me with instructions on how to fix it each time it breaks in future. - shower door rollers broke and slammed my wife's finger leaving it swollen and black and blue. -sends plumber to fix sinks who leaves trash throughout the house and doesn't clean up his work area. If you want professional, courteous and responsive service, our experience, as well as other opinions listed below, should help guide your decision making process. read more
