Had a miserable experience at a nearby Hick-A-Palooza of a nine holer and honestly can't believe McKay Creek exists within this close proximity to it. In almost every way, they're basically on opposite sides of the planet. My family isn't comprised of avid golfers, but they're really enjoying having some nine-hole courses around to polish up their game. No use bothering far better players getting in a full 18 at the Reserve, Pumpkin Ridge or out on the coast if you can be out there with folks at your skill level for half the time. It's been mentioned before that McKay is by no means easy, and I'll agree with that. As simple as it is to pay and navigate the course even the Par 3 greens can be a bit of a challenge. At least it looks as green and glorious as Pumpkin Ridge back here, if a bit light on the amenities (go ahead and BYO everything). But for the lack of expense and the well-maintained course and pace of play--and clientele that's actually here to have fun and play golf and not, like some neighboring courses, to air their grievances with the world and show everyone just how backward they can be--McKay Creek is well worth even a novice's time. had a great day here yesterday. I have played this course in the past - and it's a little gem tucked into older neighborhood of Hillsboro. They had the pay station setup outside and it was straightforward. We had a coupon so $25 each with cart. Our tee time was 1:30pm. We had a little time to putt and relax and then off. It was just the two of us and we followed a pair of other golfers. There were plenty of people out here but it was pleasant. Had to wait on the back nine a bit - but it was the first sunny, warm day and it really didn't bother me. Course is just nine holes, so if you want to play 18, you go around twice. You should be able to improve or remember how/what club you played when you go around again. Facilities - they had porto-potties (clean) and no beverage cart operating, nor did I see any bevs./food offered today. The greens had been plugged, so putting was like chinese checkers. I definitely had a few puts that would've gone in, if it wasn't for the healing holes on the green. Kind of a bummer, but I didn't think to ask about this when I made the tee time. It's kind of late in the season to plug greens, but perhaps with COVID and not normal traffic, conditions, they did it late in the year. It was a nice little challenge. Most holes are pretty short, lot of par 3s, but towards the end, there are two par fives. Lots of shade and a few times your are gathered with people teeing off on 4 and 9. read more

This is and always will be our go to course. Everyone here is beyond friendly and accommodating. You definitely won't come across the typical up tight, entitled and rude staff and customers we often come across at other courses. And let me tell you the course, club house although tiny and range are all very well kept especially for the price you pay here. I have played at Meriwether golf course twice and not only is the staff beyond rude their facilities are disgusting for the outrageous prices they charge. read more

The more I tee off the more I realize how true the statement -- There is no such thing as an EASY course! McKay Creek has forced me to live that line once again. A challenging 9-hole course complete with the challenge of splitting trees off of the first tee to an uphill par 3 on the 6th and crossing a creek on the 9th. McKay Creek had me ready to make my best Masters 2013 Brandt Snedeker "Incredible Hulk" impersonation. An open, seemingly easy course you'd think you would par or birdie every hole, but is that ever the case!? Enough my sniveling and woes, McKay Creek is a fun challenging course and offers something for every level of golfer, from depth challenging par 3s to a couple long par 5s you'll get your game's worth out here. There is a driving range and a putting green with actual cups as opposed to flags as well. Wildlife is all around the occasional deer should not throw off your swing, Sergio Garcia. Prices are relative and it is a beautiful course to play! Go play! read more

Great spot to learn golf. Craig Wilson is probably the nicest, fun golf instructor I've had. He makes golf understandable and enjoyable. The driving range is decent, but the 9 hole course is a gem. Very clean and well kept. read more

McKay Creek is a fun little inexpensive 9 hole course. Most the fairways are straight but water does come into play on several holes. The only downside is a lot of the holes are side by side so if you hook or slice at all, you may be playing from a different fairway. I have been to this course 3 or 4 times and will definitely be back. read more

Tee times placed two minutes apart, with a "marshal" on the third tee box informing about pace of play? WRONG!!!!! Don't talk to us about pace of play we know. Our foursome played the first two in 15min. Shoot I put my first two drives 10ft from the green. A good guideline is 15min for four, per hole. If your marshal is lonely and looking for someone to talk to. Try Facebook or a chat line. Did I mention it's an easy course? I finished 2 over. I'll admit I'm an amateur. The only challenge here was not catching the group in front of us. When we did they were very nice and fairly good golfers. I had no problem waiting, seeing as that the course is designed to back up. The redeeming quality was the drink cart operator. She's the only reason for the two stars. After 9, we left to play elsewhere. Would have stayed but I didn't want to sprint between shots the rest of the day. Stop watches are for track meets, and should not be used on a golf course. Yes my aim was true, yes I hurried to my next shot. Sorry that my hundred yard dash time came in at over 10 sec. But come on its Sunday! Quick tip, don't let people tee off on the first before the green is cleared by the group in front. I won't be back, far to many other places to golf. read more

A nice course and inexpensive to play. However, I'm not sure why they have a marshal at all. It took 3 hours to play 9. When we finally got fed up of waiting 15 min to tee off every hole and hit a drive a bit too early he came to yell at us about giving them space. Drink service was excellent though. Sarah was very friendly while we waited patiently at each hole. GET RID OF YOUR MARSHAL Josh, you're wasting money paying him. read more

Amazing, long, 9 hole course. Greens are kept in nice condition. The price in my opinion is low for what the course brings. They also have a bev cart that's makes its rounds. The staff are great and the driving range is just as wonderful. The first time I played here I was hooked. I'll be back time and time again. read more

It's an inexpensive family run 9 hole course. The layout is mostly wide open but if you slice the trouble is always on the right so it always winds up challenging. For being a small 9 hole course the greens are in excellent condition as well as the overall course. You're not going to find a bunch of burnt fairways with dead grass. If you're looking for a low key 9 hole round this is your place. read more

This is a great 9-hole course, with some challenging holes and a nice driving range as well. The pace of play can be a bit slow but as long as you are comfortable with that you will love this place. The whole experience was kind of weird. First of all, they told us that morning over the phone that they were running a special, and then when we got there there they said they weren't because it was a holiday. Bait and switch. Whatever, it was a long drive so we just ate it and paid full price. We were golfing at an above average pace, but at the 4th or 5th hole, the marshal drove up to us and said there was a Men's club right behind us and would we please keep up a fast pace. We were already golfing pretty fast and catching up to the people in front of us, so it was weird that they asked in the first place and also pretty classless. Golf is something we do to relax. If you don't have time for someone to golf their 9 holes at an above-average pace, don't take their money. It's not my fault they overbooked, and I paid the same as everyone else. So then, the marshal just parks his cart pointed toward our current hole and just stares at us the whole time. When me moved on to the next hole, he moved with us and just sat there staring at us. It made everyone uncomfortable, like we were taking a test, and it didn't help with our concentration. It was like he was determined to make us so uncomfortable that we would leave. Anyways, the hurry was pointless because we just caught up to the people in front right away and had to wait. Then our cart starts running out of juice because they sent it through too many times without charging. I tell the marshal (who is still sitting there watching us like a vulture) that we can't go any faster with the cart because we're flooring it and it barely moving, even though it says it's half full. He looks at it and says "it says it's half full", as if he either didn't hear me or didn't believe me. After we insist, he calls some guys with a new cart and they arrive just as we're getting to the next hole in our dreadfully slow cart (which I noticed didn't even make it back to the clubhouse afterward). A guy in an orange polo gets out and says "did you guys tee off yet?" and we say "no" (because we JUST got there) and this guy has the nerve to reply to us "WHY NOT?". Couldn't believe it. And after all the hurrying and hounding, we just ended up waiting for the people in front of us, because this course was designed by a rookie and puts the hardest hole at the end, so it's always backed up. Terrible management, terrible service, awful staff with bad manners. I have never felt so unwelcome in my life. Definitely will not be back. read more

Terrible experience and after reading other reviews it sounds like this is common at this crappy course! I have been here a handful of times throughout the years, 8-12 times. Most of my experiences have been descent during the week. I scheduled a T time for me and a friend for 10:03 am, we showed up 20 minutes early to practice putting and chipping, stretch etc but we were forced to join a couple of elderly men (BS) 15 minutes before our t time at 9:46 (BS). The employee that forced us to join them stood there and watched us t off like we needed to hurry and pressuring us. We were playing at a fast pace for a group of 4, especially considering the two we were forced to join were in their 70's. The marshal came by on hole 3 & 6 to rush us and tell us to hurry up and stay on the heels of the group in front of us (We already were). This is all because they had a tournament at 11am I guess, but shouldn't they tell you this on the phone? show up 15 minutes early, we'll rush you and make you feel like a worthless peasant in comparison to the marshal and the tourney members. I will only be coming here on rare occasions to use the driving range from now on. Being rushed by the marshal has happened to me probably 4 or 5 out of the 12-14 times I have been here. If you like to come out and enjoy a game of golf, go elsewhere. read more
