I am so obsessed with this bookstore. I could literally wander around it for hours. I love how there are so many different nooks and crannies filled with awesome books. The children's section is small, but jam packed with an awesome selection. My son always loves browsing here. My first stop is always the extensive staff picks selection. I enjoy reading why certain books are recommended. I recently went in for an author reading and that was a really fun and different opportunity. It was super intimate and you really got to get to know the author and hear about their journey. If they don't have a book on the shelf that you want, they will order it for you. Overall a really lovely spot to spend and afternoon. read more

Very nice book store. Very comfortable atmosphere with a place to sit and read. They have a sort of review cue cards on books that are attached to the book itself. These cards give you an insight on the book on a personal perspective. Clean and well organized, easy to find your topic. Pricing is competitive with online book stores. read more

Shout Out! McIntyre's Owner & Staff are wonderful! My first visit and the book store is beautiful and attractive! Cozy quaint reading areas with plenty of books options and subjects. Cute touristy small items available and wonderful things like Great Women of Literature bookmark that lists well known female authors like Agatha Christie, Louisa Maycott, etc I was stunned how affordable their prices are!! I had not intended to buy a couple books, but I found a couple great board books for our small son. McIntyre's is way better than big name stores that skyrocket their prices!! McIntyre's is a beautiful bookstore located inside Fearrington Village. There are various rooms organized by genre with a Children's corner on the right and then a well-decorated room on the left with a fireplace and comfortable sofa. It is so cozy to come here during the winter months when the there is a fire in the fireplace. The staff has their book recommendations hand-written on their favorite books and it is a very welcoming local bookstore. The room in the far back is used for their book readings where they feature authors to talk about their books and do a reading for the audience. I also like how the entry display always has a seasonal touch like Mother's Day books, Valentine's books, etc. You definitely have to stop in while at Fearrington and be prepared to spend some time perusing the books and gifts. read more

This is an awesome bookstore. The feng shui of the beautiful displays and rooms of the store make it worth a visit. If you are a mystery or thriller fan there is a whole room just for you. Anything they don't have in stock they will order. If we don't want all our bookstores to go out of business, it pays to support wonderful independents like this. read more

This is my new favorite new bookstore. Nothing will ever beat out the smell and experience of a really fantastic used bookstore, but I love what has been done with McIntyre's. It is just small enough to feel relaxed and intimate, but the selection is absolutely phenomenal. There is no wasted space here, yet does not feel at all crowded or cramped. Many tables and shelves are denoted as "Staff Picks" with enticing notes about why each book is lauded. Great big chairs await you in the adjacent mystery/non-fiction/cooking sections. The staff was VERY helpful while not-obtrusive-(I am a quiet browser and like my space). They host regular weekly events and book signings. I will be driving the 13 miles from Cary for my book shopping. McIntyre's is an experience. read more

So cozy, I could stay for hours. Immediately entering you'll feel at ease, and want to read everything in sight. The first room is children's, but they've also divided nonfiction, history, crime, and cooking into their own little rooms and nooks. Comfy chairs, a fireplace, and uncluttered but chock-full surroundings compliment the already homey shoppe, and the staffs pick tables are gold mines. The criminal/mystery room is also where they have guest writers and speakers, and they had a impressive list of previous events and those to come. I think my favorite things were the little handwritten notecards sticking out of some of the books, mostly a plot summary but also going a little but further about the kind of read and what you could expect to take from it. The main room housed some activity books, a few Fred items, and a small sale section, but mostly was a beautiful showcase of new releases and must reads. Super friendly staff, great layout, any time I'm in the area I'll be stopping in, but they're worth the drive from Charlotte too! read more

What great book shop! I wandered in here not planning to buy anything but I couldn't help myself. The book store itself has a large selection and their children's section is wonderful. The cashier was very helpful and friendly as she was ringing me up we chatted about books with diverse characters. She recommended 2 great children's books with diverse characters and was open to a suggestion I had to stock another series. I will definitely be returning. read more

I am lucky I do not live close to this bookstore because I spend far too much money everytime I come in! Everyone I have encountered in the shop have given me excellent recommendations and I have discovered many new favorite authors. I sometimes drive the 30min (both ways) to Fearrington just to buy a new book and read it with a cup of coffee from the village coffee shop. read more

If you plan to come to this "bookstore" with your children be prepared for the owners to make you feel unwelcome. I have had this experience on more than one occasion while allowing my very well-behaved children to look around in the children's section of the store. The second either of my children made a peep we got nasty looks. I didn't realize that you can't make any noise in a bookstore, I thought that was the rule at a library. Love this bookstore! I moved down to the Triangle from New York and was in search of a great independent bookstore. McIntyre's is a gem. Their selection is so well-curated that I usually go in for one book as end up finding a bunch of other amazing books, too. They also have some beautiful notebooks and stationary, as well as fun gift items (adult coloring books, pens, bottle openers, etc). The staff is super friendly and always willing to recommend, search for a book, or order something if they don't have it. This used to be a good bookstore and we would regularly drive 50+ miles for coffee and a visit to McIntyre's. However, like a few other formerly decent businesses either owned or run by those whose candidate did not win the latest national election, their anger and disappointment is palatable and their political agenda evident. The atmosphere has become sour, moody, and sullen. To walk in fresh and eager for a pleasant literary experience and then to be confronted by totally inappropriate books with titles such as "Insane Clown President" and others of the same ilk is a real downer. I understand that there may be patrons who share the same political outrage and/or grief and maybe they buy these books but if your political viewpoint is different or, like ourselves, you prefer a reasonably apolitical bookstore experience, you will no longer feel welcome at McIntyre's. I live in Fearrington Village so I frequently go into the book store. For the most part people have been helpful but when I went to look for a specific cookbook the manager told me she didn't like that author so probably would not have it in stock. I was quite taken back so inferred I didn't like Flay which was on the shelf. She then came back and stated that I wasn't the one who did the ordering. Her attitude has left a bad taste in my mouth and will not return. Little did I know at the time is that she is Fitch's daughter, the developer of this community. She needs to get down off her high horse and treat her customers with respect. read more

This is hands-down my favorite bookstore I have had the pleasure of visiting. The booksellers are extremely knowledgeable and always eager to help you find a book that will suit your reading whims and needs. There are a number of comfortable reading nooks to crack open your most recent purchase and get lost in the story. The author events are stellar, and the store manages to attract both new and veteran authors. No visit to central North Carolina is complete without a visit here! read more

I like the store but oftentimes don't feel welcome here. The gentleman at the cash register today never once lifted his head from what he was doing to even say "Hi". When I purchased something, not a word was said during the transaction, not even a "Thank you". Made me feel very uncomfortable. Don't think I'll come back. Located between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro, in Fearrington Village, McIntyre's is a bookstore lovers destination. Warm and inviting, it is a great place to linger over books of all types.
