While most of our visits here had been positive our most recent visit has changed my mind completely about this practice. Dr. Kindra did not communicate with us at all about pricing and misled us in the test that he would be providing for our dog. When I called the clinic to get some clarity about the difference between the two tests that were done on my dog the receptionist got off the phone with me and put the Vet on the phone only for him to get on and tell me that I was giving her a hard time. The bill was $300 which was a lot more than was anticipated. He then tried to use unnecessarily large medical vocabulary in what seemed like an attempt to confuse me. When I told him that the appointment had been made for something different than what was on the receipt he told me he was trying to save me money. That's all well and good but it should've been communicated before the test was even done. The receptionist then got on the phone again and told me I owed an additional $50 for the test that I had originally wanted. I had clearly made the call because financially, $300 was Way out of our price range for what we were looking for. To consider the solution to this problem, charging me additional money lacked any empathy. There is a certain level of respect and decorum that you should have when working directly with people; especially people who are in difficult financial situations, trying to make sure that their pet stays healthy. The lack of respect that these people had for me this evening while simply trying to figure out what blood test my dog had and why she had it is not acceptable. Update: we got our test results 2 days later, though we were told they would be ready next day. The passive aggressive voicemail stated that my "back and forth" with which test I wanted caused the delay. Asked for the medical records and see that the results were, in fact, ready the night the test was done and was reviewed 8am the next day. An outright lie to try to blame me for his tardiness in calling with results. While I know Dr. Kindra has many positive reviews, and by our account he was good with our dog, the games he's played with this situation have been the most unprofessional behavior I've seen from a veterinarian. read more

You need to only have the on staff dr service you. They had a guest vet. Or something and I was so disappointed. On other first visit about 8 months earlier was a good experience and that was a routine physical. This trip was a sick visit. I was not sure if my dog had worms. After much investigation we do not think she did. But I went to the dr and he did not explain anything. I got medication and no help. I realize I had a question after I left and was half way home. The front staff was more helpful then the dr or the assistant. The front desk answered all my questions and even got the main the phone to help me with what the dr did not while I was in office. So I think it was Dr kindly, or nicely, kinder, or something I can't think of his name. He was amazing. The guest dr Dr Lee I think not so much. The other staff has always been great. WARNING! Stay Away!!! Took our dog there to get neutered. They quoted me $380. The best price I'd found, so I made the surgical appointment. When I went to the preop appt. for bloodwork etc., they said there is a $90 charge + an office visit of $65! I had assumed this was included in the total cost of the surgery. I was annoyed but paid the charge so we could move forward. The day of surgery, they presented me w/a "total bill" we needed to prepay for an add'l $500!! I was shocked & angry! I had the surgery done anyhow, because we were already there, paid for the blood work etc. The post op was supposed to be included as stated on the bill. They charged me ANOTHER $65 office visit because "they had to write a prescription" for an antibiotic they should have provided in the 1st place to AVOID an infection!! So, the total bill ended up being about $900.!! The entire staff, especially the dr.'s are rude and could care less about your pets!!!! This is "just a business" for them to make money, and it's VERY obvious!! THE worst vet experience I've EVER had!!! read more

I wish I caught his name, but the young male doctor is wonderful. My dog usually doesn't care for males but my dog doesn't mind him at all. I never have to wait more than 5 minutes. Staff runs on time time and is efficient. The vet tech is also very patient and kind. The facility is clean and doesn't smell like animals .You can tell the staff enjoys what they do! Dr. Greene is the best Doctor that truly cares about your pet. She is extremely good at what she does, she has saved my dog when other vets just told us to put her down. My cat has been very sick and she has been so great with us, making sure she is doing well and even sitting on the floor petting her taking her time to make sure she was ok before bringing her home. I can't say enough, she truly cares and you can tell the way she interacts with every pet she sees. She had a cold, and the doctor was able to reassure me that cats get sick when stressed, checked other areas to ensure her health, got her vaccines handled so smoothly, and provided a relatively stress free experience when we came in. They offered a deal of free first visit or free vaccines which made it easy to make sure my furry child got the care she needed while allowing me to still afford my other bills. I was thankful for the care of the staff, the ease of scheduling, and the compassion the doctor showed towards Olives treatment options. If I could give no star I would give a no star. My dog was sick brought my dog in on a Saturday. No vet working. They have sister vets one in mundelein one in crystal lake. I know that cause I was a customer. They tell me this at the desk. To go to these two vets. I have a sick dog and you want me to drive to these places and maybe they can't take my dog. Common sense would be to call and ask not send someone to these places after all it's a emergency. My husband called during this. I explained calmly the no vet thing how not very helpful they were being. The girl as I get off the phone says I don't do rude. Rude is listening in on my conversation. Nothing I said was rude. I took my dog to a emergency vet. She was there for the weekend. Monday my dog needed surgery. They wouldn't take my dog they were busy! Seriously??!!!! I had to pick my dog up and drive her to Schaumburg for surgery. Have asked to speak to the office manager who has never returned my call back. Don't use them. They are unprofessional. It took me at least ten minutes to get them to call these two vets to check to see if they could take her. They couldn't. It would have been a waste driving around with a sick dog! read more

First and last time- they took our 5 pound kitten in for a pre surgical check up- bring her out and advise they also gave her a vaccine that she was due for- the bill went from a $37 visit to $190. The next day the kitten was vomiting for hours. We took our four dogs there today. Didn't know what to expect. Kept waiting to hear our Chico, the 11 yr old chihuahua to start screaming like someone was trying to kill him. Not one sound. He came back all happy, having his very long nails trimmed and got his rabies shot. The other three seemed to not be scared like they were at their former vet clinic. I have never written an online review, but felt compelled to do so after our experience today. We had to have our dog euthanized and we were completely and visibly heartbroken. Our scheduled appointment to have him put down was at 9:30am. We arrived on time and were promptly put into a room. After 15 minutes, no one came in to meet with us. I went out to the receptionist to ask what was going on. I was told that Dr. Kumar hadn't arrived at the office yet but was on his way in. Really?? Once he arrived, he asked why we were having him put down, etc. Did you not read the file on him? We were here 10 days ago and arranged for this. I felt there was absolutely no compassion or professionalism displayed by Dr. Kumar. As my daughter and I are visibly upset and crying, I felt he was more concerned with arranging the blanket on the floor. As we all know, putting a beloved pet to rest is a terribly sad and an emotionally draining experience. What was already an awful morning was made even worse by how this was handled. read more

I never right reviews but when it harms a loved one I will write to help others who are getting screwed over. I took my pet to do her yearly shots and the doctor looked at her and said she healthy and was given her shots. I brought up her luxating patella that was seen by the doctor a year prior and said it wasn't at all bad and that they would check it yearly. This year the doctor said oh it's not in her chart but I'll check it out. Right away he says yeah it bad, you waited to long and now we need to get X-rays and schedule a surgery. He also put her on meds to control her pain. I left that day without X-rays and without scheduling the surgery and I talked about it with my parents and then went back the following day to get X-rays. I paid for them and told them I'll talk to my parents about the surgery and what the results showed me. Then about a week into taking her meds my dog was acting off and had blood in her stool. When I realized this place was trying to take my money I needed to find another doctor. I ended up going to another hospital and the assistant took note of what was happening and the meds she was taking and right away the doctor comes in and asked are you giving her the amount it says on the bottle and I said yes and he says the reason she's having these symptoms is because she's being over dosed and possibly had ulcers forming. The amount prescribed to her and the amount being given was for a dog that weights 12 pound and my dog is about 7 pounds max. When that was said I was completely in shock and pissed because I thought I was helping my dog but come to find out I'm the one who took her to mchenry pet hospital who made things worse for a problem that was never a problem. The surgeon at the new hospital also looked at her luxating patella and said she's young and the problem is not bad at all. He was not going to put her through the pain of a surgery she didn't need. I'm so glad I found a place that cares for our baby's and not just looking for ways to make money. Another problem I had was with the receptionist who was rude and unwelcoming I waited for over 5 minutes in front of her desk while she took a personal call and was staring at her computer. Then another assistant from the back came and the receptionist told her to ring me out because she was busy. She is usually rude and not welcoming. I also had a problem with a lady who answers the phone. I called to cancel and appt to talk to the doctor about the procedure the day before and she confirmed it was cancelled and then two days later called me and said you missed and appt you had and that we urge u to call us because we need blood work before your dog's surgery in a couple of days. One I called to cancel the appt and second I never agreed nor did I schedule this surgery. After we went through all this I called to speak to the manager and apparently they were going for the day and we left a call back number but they never had the guts to face there mistake. I don't want to bash everyone at this place I do want to thank the assistants who were very nice and careful with my dog but there were only a few of them. That being said I don't recommend anyone going here because they look for money not the well being of your dog. I hurt knowing that I took my baby here for so long and I wonder how many drugs they have given her that we're not necessary. read more

Really like this animal hospital. Had the guy doctor the first time and he is nice but just not the right fit for our dog or us. . So the second time we had Dr Mann and she's great!! Bubbly and handled our dog really well! Good pricing and they all seem to care. Only thing I don't like Is they need to Clean up their main office entrance more there was pee on. The scale left from another dog and on the floor they should be wiped down constantly the floors and just a little more happy and knowledgeable with the girls who check you out. It's always a really long process or they don't know something etc. And when a client makes an appointment with a specific doctor please makesure they get that doctor and don't have to wait over 25 min. The vet Dr. Singh at McHenry Animal Hospital gets an A+. Not only was the visit free, he spent 30 minutes with the dog and knew her medical history from seeing her before at Save-A-Pet. Our dog is small and Dr. Singh had her on the exam table examining her for at least 10 minutes. Dr. Singh and the other vet went over her files from being at the shelter and talked to me about my dog's history and what to do to take care of her. Dr. Singh did not try to sell me on spending more money to take care of her except on cleaning her teeth. All these reasons and a great receptionist I'll drive the extra distance to bring my dog from now on. We adopted a female Maltese/Terrier 3 years old. She is a great dog and in good health. We are happy on Save-A-Pet's thorough file on dog's health and temper of the dog. The cost on getting our dog is not that bad considering they did the following: spayed, rabie shots, flea treatment, worm treatment, heartworm medicine, microchip in dog in case it is lost, and being taken into the vet regularly. We also received food, medicine, a leash, and a free vet visit. read more

My 11 yr old dog fell ill and I went to this pet hospital. They seemed to know what they are doing but the prices are thru the roof. $100 blood work...$55 urine.....the list is endless. But after spending almost $300 and taking a pass on the $200 for an x-ray I was asked to return for an office visit the following day for a blood pressure monitor. No problem. I really expected this to be a 'courtesy' but was charged $20 !! What a racket! These Vets have more concern for getting every last dime from you rather than helping your sick dog. There is no half price injections, although that is what I was told Mon-Friday....I paid full price for all except as a new client, a free exam. I am really at a loss for what the cost is for helping your dog get well. No discounts for seniors. The prices I was told made little sense to me, but they know they can charge whatever they wish cause people are so vulnerable when their pet gets sick and will go to almost any lengths and cost to cure them. The pain was coming from impacted anal glands not a back problem as suggested by an energency vet. My dog hasn't had back issues since. We brought our cat there because he was vomiting a lot. They drew his blood and said he had pancreatitis and were keeping him overnight. I went to see home first thing in the morning and found his IV was out. They said visit and we will fix it after I leave. Went to see him about 5pm that night to try to get him to eat. Removing him from the cage I noticed his foot was HUGE! They never removed the tight bandage from the blood draw the previous day. They were horrified at their mistake. I insisted I wanted him out of there. They said they were sorry and stated he had his meds already.. but then looked at his chart and they never gave him his medicine. Again they said they were sorry. Our cat would have lost his leg had I not spotted this. We called the owner, Dr Brar the next morning, told our story, he said he would look into it and call us back. That was 11/16/18. We have yet to hear back from him. No apology, nothing. Think twice about hospitalizing your animal there. This was a horrible experience. Poor animals can't tell us what is wrong. They impressed me so much I left my other local vet practice and brought my 4 dogs there. He has always been spot on with whatever issue my fur babies were having and their prices are so reasonable!! Very unhappy with the experience I had at Mchenry Pet Hospital. This was my first and last time going to this vet. I called for my cat to see if they could squeeze me in to their schedule today and if they would work with me for monthly payments, the man who answered the phone said yes they will, and that I could come in today (I'm from Mundelein, the only reason I drove to Mchenry was because they said they would work with me on payments and they could get my cat in ASAP). As I arrived, I struggled to get into their parking lot due to there being a dealership that shared a parking lot with the vet. Once I found parking, I saw one of the vet techs smoking a cigarette right outside, and then proceeded inside not washing her hands or anything. I walked inside and was greeted by the receptionist, she asked basic info etc, and told me I go into room #1, well room #1 was as small as my closet, and smelled like stale cigarette smoke. The vet came in and weighed my cat, looked at his ear etc, and told me the estimate for treatment, I asked "you guys will accept monthly payments correct?" She told me no unfortunately we expect payment upfront. WTF?! So why was I told via phone that they would work with me??? I ended up leaving with no treatment done but still paid $60, for pain meds and an ear swab, just to be told it's ear wax no infection???? BTW they never told me they would charge me for swabbing his ear with a q-tip.... I will never come to this vet again. read more

Dr. Brar is an excellent doctor who truly cares about animals. My dogs have been patients at the McHenry Pet Hospital since 2012 and have always received great care at a fair and affordable price. We've been to another vet in the area with a completely different experience. I feel like Dr. Brar and the staff get to know the animals they care for regularly, which is comforting. One of my dogs has a dominant personality and also has some anxiety issues (not just at the vet) and Dr Brar and staff are great with him; they take their time with him to make him comfortable. Over the years, whenever I've called with a need, they've always made time in their schedule to see my dogs. So thankful for the care our fur babies receive from this office and that it is so close to our house! read more

BEWARE of going there when Dr Brar is not there. I unfortunately did and (I believe his name is Dr. Sing) came into the room, I had my dog scheduled for a spay within the week and she was there for the pre-exam. He came in and immidiately said "do I need to get a muzzle?" My dog is a great dane, who is timid around men and instead of trying to connect with my dog and understand she is afraid, he just stared at her. My friend who recommended me to this vet clinic did so because she has a Dane as well and Brar took his time and got her dog to accept him and be comfortable with him. He did not do ANYTHING to help me, he overpriced my spay, and I asked him to give his opinion on a rash she gets on her belly and he didn't even look at it. He said it might be allergies.... well, can I get some spray or medication to get rid of it?! Google helps me more than this man! what a worthless asshole. he was RUDE and disrespectful to me and my dog. Will never see him again, I then canceled my spay and am taking her to wonderlake. Just the fact that he didn't even know I was getting her spayed there in a few days worried me. Don't you have paper work? I brought my 2 french bulldogs to see Dr. Nagar Brar for their first consultation and was disgusted by the behavior of the doctor. He was sick and was sneezing, coughing and blowing his nose all over, and then proceeded to wipe his nose and stick his fingers in both of my dogs mouths. He then gave my dog 3 shots without wiping the areas down with alcohol to sanitize. After the shots he told me that my 1 year old french bulldog had a heart murmur and needed a chest x-ray. He told me that if it went untreated then my dog would most likely die at a young age from congestive heart failure. I left the appointment scared to death of the news I had just received. To be sure that my dog had a heart murmur; I brought her to my regular vet the very next day and 3 different doctors listened to her heart and no one heard any sign of a heart murmur. In my opinion, Dr. Brar is a scam artist and will do anything to get money from his customers. You may think that you are getting a good deal by going to McHenry Pet Hospital but their low prices are only used to get you in. I was disgusted by his behavior and his lack of knowledge and will NEVER return to see him. read more

I had a good experience at McHenry pet hospital with Dr. Brar, and his staff. I adopted a 2 1/2 year old Rottweiler named Guido. A couple of weeks after I got him home I found out he had torn ACL's on both hind legs. After researching the Internet on what the solution was for this condition, and talking to probably a dozen pet hospitals I found Dr. Brar. He was straightforward with what needed to be done to correct the tears. Because Guido weights 114 pounds the best solution was a procedure called TPLO. He said we could do a procedure called tightrope, but because of Guido size there was a chance that it would fail and have to be re-performed. Several other doctors recommended tightrope as the correct procedure, but after searching the Internet I found out the tightrope was not recommended for dogs over 80 pounds. Dr. Brar was the only doctor that told me this. The doctor insisted that the two knees be done eight weeks apart, to allow time for proper healing of the bone. This meant that the two procedures would be spread over a four-month period start to finish. It is also translated into 6+ roundtrips to the hospital at 110 miles per trip. As it turns out, it was well worth it. Because Guido's knees were damaged for so long, is hind muscles were underdeveloped and he had lost a considerable amount of range of motion in the hind legs. Therefore Dr. Brar recommended hydrotherapy, also well worth it. Guido will be three years old tomorrow. And for the first time in his life, he is running around in the yard with the neighbors dogs and without pain. I would recommend Dr. Brar, and his staff without hesitation. read more
